    Five quick points
    1. joe schmidt being fair is rarely at a non leinster match so he probably got the 2 farrells mixed up.
    2. dave kearney is a biased decision
    3. why not dillane and jimmy ryan
    4. who is the porter boy
    5. congrats to ruddock

Chris have no more credentials in Ireland. He came back later than Tom. He's shown no more talent than him this season. He's picked because Munster are in form.
We probably won't see any of the Farrells when Ringrose's back, though. No need to focus on this

Aki/Henshaw/McCloskey/Ringrose are fabulous 4, that's enough. J.J will be n°5 cover in 2019, only if needed. But this one is just a bet...

That's a fair analysis, but could possibly add a bit more credit to Chris Farrell due to his performances in France, scored tries consistently, and he's the biggest centre we've ever had, probably worth giving him a shot.

Look forward to Tom Farrell building up his reputation, if he can add 5 or 6 tries before the 6 Nations he could find himself in the Irish squad.

Let's hope they all continue to improve, as competition drives performance.

If you look at this team in terms of who can have the biggest short-term impact on their fortunes... I'd say the 5

Ruddock can possibly cement his place in the 23 for Argentina/6Ns.
    Murphy can possibly oust him.
Porter can possibly make himself a genuine bench option due to his quality around the field
Dillane can make some lost ground up on Ryan.
Conway can make himself a real option at 15 in the not entirely unlikely scenario that RK and JP are missing.

And I suppose a bad performance from Marmion/Carberry could set them back as our seemingly 2nd choice half backs.

I think Carberry is probably safe enough as 2nd choice for the foreseeable, maybe Marmion too.

There's also the flip side of this - eg. another weak McCloskey performance and I think it'll be a long, long time before we see him named in an Irish squad again.

I don't think McCloskey was weak against England. He grew into the game but a bit it seems that like Gilroy and TOH there are aspects to his game that don't sit well with Joe. This is his chance to show he has worked on those.

Big day for the Dungannon club, producing the two big centres.

Farrell from a smaller club originally.. not produced by dungannon

    Clogher Valley I believe.

Listening to the Hard Yards today, Schmidt was apparently raving about Marmion and Carbery after the SA game. Hopefully they live up to that praise this weekend. Lot of changes though, if that team can be cohesive, it will be very impressive.

Fiji have had a decent year, wouldn't surprise me if this was closer than most expect.

No... you got that wrong, he was apparently raving *with* Marmion and Carbery. They're the only two lads in the squad that are as into dance as Joe is.

Was it mentioned before that Joe was in regular contact with Chris Farrell while he was at Grenoble.

Yeah but that was nothing to do with rugby or the Ireland squad, he was just trying to get Chris into dance.

He was ringing me to talk about it too. He's really into it.

And he wasn't that good with Grenoble. Farrell is big. Not much more. Not much handling, steps etc. He's a decent province player, so Tom is (for now). TBH whatever they are I don't think we have to discuss the "fabulous 4" we have for midfield.
It's already gonna be hard enough for most here to accept Bundee ahead of Ringrose :p
(and for few others to admit Kearney is gonna be kept ahead of TOH :( )

    I

Ringrose, Aki, Henshaw, Marshall, McCloskey, R Scannell, C Farrell.

Its possible we see Henshaw at 15 on saturday. Aki/Ringrose in the centre in the future with Henshaw at 15.

Is James Ryan world class already? I'd say he is. And to think some people thought he was behind Ross Molony starting off this season.

How much of him did you watch in france? What did you think of him when he played with Ulster.
You seem to know a fair bit about him.

Ireland gone from - 27 to - 23 after the team announcements.
I still think Fiji are about another 3 points of value there.

Farrell is a superb passer of the football. I'm interested to see what he can do in a Joe Schmidt set-up.

I have to say I haven't been impressed by Chris Farrell really. Good in the early rounds of the Pro14, not nearly as good in the bigger games.

Tom Farrell just shouldn't be a topic for discussion on the Ireland thread.

what a typical stupid team selection by Joe against a poor team. you get a chance to meld players and instead you just play a second team and absolutely nothing is learnt. it would utterly wreck your head

Yeah but that's just the actual words of Chris Farrell talking about what the Irish coach Joe Schmidt told him. Connachta was actually factual with his in depth analysis.

As a matter of interest what 15/23 do you think should have been named?

Farrell played 75 times for Grenoble. You saw him 3 or 4 times and have concluded a connacht player should be picked ahead of him for Ireland.

Give it up. You are just embarrassing yourself.

Personally how a player performs abroad means little to me.. Farrell has a lot to prove at Munster, not sure he is a top level 13.
