    Just reason it out.

We play Argentina next week, then the Six Nations, then a summer tour to Australia. This week is the last chance the fringe guys will get for a full 12 months.

You're Finlay Bealham. You played in the Six Nations not so long ago, now you've slipped behind Andrew Porter in the pecking order, a player with two professional starts in his entire career. But you also know that every match day 23 has to have two TH props so it only takes one injury and you could be back in!

And you go to Australia (allegedly).

If he really thought he was in with a shout of getting back in the mix, he wouldn't have booked a holiday to the other side of the world. Maybe Bent is only there to hold tackle bags, but Bealham should be busting a gut to hold tackle bags, jock straps and anything else he can get his hands on. Because as it stands, his international career is over.

So yeah I'm speculating but there's no need to be a dick and tell me I pulled it out of my arse.

What do you mean allegedly? Do you think he's in his house in Galway and just saying he's in OZ?

Like that's a completely unnecessary piece to add in.

There is no allegedly about him being in Australia. He is.

You've constructed this scenario based off pretty much nothing.

Because the only indication we have that he's in Australia is one poster on boards.ie.

If he's tweeted it or whatever, great, please let me know.

I've explained the whole thing above. Up to you to take it on board.

You won't though. You'll keep snapping at me because you think stating the obvious is somehow anti Connacht.

A classic example of what? Kearney loses out in 2v1 shock horror

He completely fails to tackle anybody. Some would argue he bottled it.

Would you like to see some other examples?

    Cool thanks.

Pretty sure that proves my point.

The days of players who bottle tackles, being selected for anything more senior than a J1 team are long since gone.

Anybody who argues that is sitting on their thinking apparatus.

Yeah go ahead. I know what your gettings at but that's an awful example tbh. He gambles that a lock is going to pass rather than dummy and pin the ears. The other outcome is he commits to Gray and the ball is passed wide. Same same. The mistake was made before the 2 on 1.

You made a statement that was 100% conjecture that you're presenting as factual and I pointed it out, nothing more or less.

I have no idea what you're on about with the second line. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings or something, where I'm from telling somebody they are pulling something out of their arse is not necessarily offensive.

He has to hit someone, even if he picks the wrong one. The guy on the outside might have been tackled so Grey was his target.

Cummiskey gave him a 5/10 rating from last Saturday - the lowest of any Irish player.

I maintain he's a very poor defender and has been for a while - check out this classic...

Oh man, you really blew this. All your whinging about Kearney and when asked to produce an example of poor defence (and there are plenty out there) you pick the one completely out of his control. #own_goal.

    How?
    You're talking trough your hoop
Is this revenge for connachta's posts?

    No I'm not.

My only point is that a guy who plays in a specialised position but sought and was given permission to take a holiday to Australia during an international test window cannot have much hope for a recall and cannot be very high up in the coach's thinking.

If someone wants to tell me what is wrong with that logic, please do so. Preferably without reference to my arse, hoop, jacksy or hole.

Does it have to be a Leinster player, or can we pass it around the provinces. Will Jamie take the mantle back once he returns or will it go elsewhere for the 6 nations? It amazes me how devisive some players can be, but it really does make this forum torture to read at times.

But, in his defence... Former does have a lovely hoop!

Lovely or not, apparently he doesn't use it for articulation. ;)

Yeah I would. He didn't miss a tackle, he bought a dummy in a 2v1. Tell me an international fullback that has never done that.

The big problem in that clip was the Irish number 9 doing a turnstile impersonation that leads to the 2v1. Who was that muppet?

Ah to be fair Keith Earls has had his detractors over the years as well and he doesn't play for Leinster.

Paddy Wallace used to get a fair bit of grief on the MBs back in the day too.

Schmidt can pick who he wants and usually he picks well but like every coach he is prone to favouritism.
But that is not an issue if you are winning the big games.
The 6 nations and the tour to Australia are all that matters, judgement day will come.
If Ireland want to prove they are the real deal, a top contender for 2019 world cup, they will have to win the 2018 grand slam.
We can all agree that winning the grand slam and a winning tour to australia are the only outcomes that would make 2018 a successful year for Joe Schmidt. Anything less will be deemed a complete and utter failure.

So winning the championship but not the grand slam, and a winning tour in oz would be a complete and utter failure?

For me a successful year is

    finish the AIs unbeaten
4 wins in the six nations whether it's a championship or not
    Winning tour to Australia

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

I wouldn't be putting expectations on the Aussie tour but I'd like to see us target a grand slam. 4 wins is a decent achievement but definitely should have the slam as the goal.

Don't like putting a target on the tour because by the time they come around you end up with a squad of tired and injured lads going down to a fresh SH side. Could be 3 losses, could be a clean sweep.

You've been talking about this judgement day for a while now. Is it a remake or a complete reimagining? Will Arnie be involved? What about Linda Hamilton? Whatever happened to the kid from the original? Edward Something.
