Improved paper review today. Some attempts to shape the direction of society but mostly just critical talk about sport. However, two decent international match results may have much to do with that. It's ironic that just about the only OTB show I still listen to is the one that annoys me most but maybe that's because I see it as the one with most potential given its open ended nature and variety of guests.

i see Richie was unimpressed with the antics of the Irish fans in Copenhagen, where one of the bigger irish bars was beside a Victoria's Secrets shop

    https://twitter.com/RichieMcCormack/status/929656810012925959

although Ger's crowd thought it was worth a story

    https://www.balls.ie/football/irish-fans-victorias-secret-copenhagen-377458

could there possibly be a moment where Ger asks Richie to lighten up and call him a snowflake??! (as per richie's own replies to that tweet's responses!)

I was in Amsterdam having a walk around the Red Light District around 2 years ago, there was a British stag party in the balcony of a bar, when a fella came out of one of the booths, they all started singing and chanting at the man. This kind of stuff occurs all the time, I thought it was brilliant when it happened.

I've no idea what Richie's problem is, I always thought he was one of the more relaxed members on OTB but I must have been wrong

The woman saw the fun in it too. I'm sure she could have done without it but it was just a bit of a laugh. Certainly pales in comparison to the behaviour of English and Russian fans abroad.

Ivan yates mentioned it today, and according to the other thread, so did Ciara Kelly. did anyone tell them that the shop was beside the Irish pub? got the impression from yates and richie's tweet that people started congregating outside the shop. twas more a case of people spilling out onto the street and then noticing it.

The Off The Ball AM seems a bit of a stretch no? Newstalk won't give it a big push as it will be in competition with their breakfast show surely. Was pretty hard to find a direct link to it this morning, Twitter and Facebook apps are frustrating enough platforms to listen to things on I find. I'd love if it took off, but I just can't see it happening if this is the set up.

Yeah, although it's probably just going to replace the OTB Football Show Podcast for me in the mornings :)

I'm no big fan of Off The Ball's various social justice crusades and descent in to identity politics.
However, I agree with Ritchie on this.
    It's creepy,weird and embarrassing. Really,really odd. It's Neanderthal stuff.

I had to watch it again to see what I missed the first time..

I takes a special kind of arsehole to get a job in the Irish media nowadays.

Richie McCormack is the worst, listening to him last night was grating, coming out with all sorts of nonsense. Kilbane definitely hates him.

I'm glad the "Go home to your sexy wives" chant to the Swedish fans happened a year ago.

    That'd be unacceptable in 2017.

What was he saying? I didn't mind him before but I'm done with him now

He was claiming that O'Neill was specifically telling the players not to play football, which is a ridiculous claim to make if you think about it. He may be defensive or conservative in his mindset but it was pointed out on numerous occasions that when players did hoof it without thinking, they were roared at by O'Neill or Keane. Kilbane was "having none of that pal".

Texts came in with sensible points and you could hear Richie snorting with derision in the background because it went against his viewpoint.

He's an arrogant twat really. Speaks about topics like he's an ex-pro and it's his area of expertise, while in reality he's just the guy who reads the sports headlines after the news.

So basically every regular on OTB that isn't Kilbane.

He gave off that vibe on his twitter page alright in response to the Danish Knickers from a few pages back.
I did not hear him on this particular piece but he reminds me of a Harry Enfield character. Pompous, self-righteous, self absorbed, a bit of a bully, and thinks he is a step above most people. Or maybe everyone? :D

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Ah come on, Joe played a bit of Leinster Senior League didn't you know? ;)

Today's paper review reminded me why OTB used to be unmissable radio for me. Today was purely about sport. There was two great guests, they tackled relevant issues and Joe directed the whole thing magnificently with no finger wagging at dopers or tut tutting at inadvertent sexism. There was more than an hour of out and out critical analysis of sport and related issues. It was great.

Ya think? Had to laugh at Joe remembering the footballer Roy Keane as famous for playing nice patterns with the football.

Is that what Roy was famous/will be remembered for?

Rosenstock who I have liked on previous appearances had views that he’s entitled to but was extremely silly...ireland winning the World Cup...lets stick to today’s papers lads.

Rouse brought a bit of realism and was good but spoke far less than Mario.

I don't mind crazy opinions as long as they aren't talking politics. As long as they stay on topic, all is good. That's what they did today.

Holy hell. My head is spinning here..

Why is this utter nonsense about an Arsenal tweet to a f*ckin Daily Mail journo being discussed at all? Why is Miguel Delaney on to talk about it??

Is the story "there are a-holes on twitter" more important than any of the actual football matches played this week?

Has anyone watched this new OTB breakfast TV thing ? Probably explains where Ger has been recently. I've never watched breakfast tv in my life and l don't intend starting anytime soon.
I heard a few promo clips, basically it sounds like the radio show in picture.
I suspect it's some sort of trial run with maybe it's long-term goal to compete with Balls.ie.

Ger would be competing with himself - 2/3 of Balls.ie is his & Donny's baby.

Are they maybe floating OTB as a "value brand" semi-detached from Newstalk also providing sports reports for other Communicorp and local radio stations, more paying roadshows etc. ... or even possible poster boys for a rebrand of NT as Talksport lite ?

I had no idea Ger was involved with Balls.i.e. Not sure if there's a market in Ireland for a Talksport type station.
I can't imagine the road shows generate a huge amount of revenue, when you take into accounts huge overheads, venues, guests, insurance, etc.
I think u may be on to something with the value brand concept.

Was browsing Twitter this morning and came across it, so I tuned in. Unfortunately at the time, Graham Hunter was on (complete with sun glasses whilst clearly on Skype in his hotel room!). Needless to say, I didn't stay tuned in for too long, not sure what to make of it, seems a bit needless, is there really an audience for this show in the mornings? Time will tell I guess
