Had to laugh at the amount of people backing Mayweather ''because Conor is a scumbag''. Aside from the showmanship, Mayweather is literally a woman bashing scrotebag.

I have never heard that expression, and have no idea what it means!

it's your usual asshole tactic to reduce the authenticity of someone's motives for showing compassion or concern for someone else..

Why don't you actually challenge his point instead of just trashing it out of hand?

He was overheard saying something to his friend in what he thought was a private conversation. It's a non-issue in the grand scheme.

Anyone can throw words about in the moment without standing behind their true meaning. Context.

    what point?

that because someone raises to the top of his game - that game being fighting in a ring - that means that he is somehow precluded from being a racist misogynist?

    I did challenge the point...

I called it a logic fail. Which it is. Quite clearly.

Now whether he is a racist misogynist or not - I don't know. I'd say he's more likely a case of being a bit dim rather than being malevolent. But the 'point' made was bollocks.

It's a term used to insult a person who call another out on *****y behaviour. As in 'look how virtuous I am'. I would have thought that calling people out on shi*ty behaviour was a good thing, but apparently not.

It's more the fact that it's done for the audience or the person's followers who all think the same way anyway. You can spot an internet post seeking back-clapping and high-fives a mile away. The problem with it is that it becomes competitive and people need to find a new thing to 'call out' to get their fix. It's basically the fast lane towards extremism.

Did you mean to hyphenate those words? Changes the meaning somewhat...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Yeah. I don't like McGregor. I don't like his sport. I don't like his brashness, coarseness and cheapness. I don't like it when he uses derogatory words about gay people.

Why belittle people? It's unworthy and tells me what kind of man he really is.

When Mayweather called McGregor a ****** the same people moaning now didn't say shit.

Ropey enough comparison, as Mayweather's comments weren't widely reported & passed most casual observers by.

Mayweather beats up women, he got into that ring too.

Has to be one of the greatest examples of mock outrage I've eve seen.

    He's a racist misogynist homophobe.

There was actually a time when you would have to defend a comment like that but apparently now you can just throw accusations around ??

I'm no fan of mcgregor but jeez

Conor74 despises his namesake. He's always in any threads about McGregor and always trots out the same line of ''sit on me dick'' every single time. Takes that as misogyny. He's not homophobic either, his stance on the marriage referendum was this; ''we all deserve equal rights''. Him saying fagg*t is horribly dated and needless but it was something that we used to say years ago as kids as a slagging. Same way we'd say writing poems to a girl is gay. It's not acceptable anymore in 2017 and rightly so, he should cop on to that. I don't believe he's racist either, just a mouthy showman.

But you can believe that he's down with homosexuals because he trotted out some line for social media about love and understanding.

And I can believe that the mask just slipped.

And we can agree to disagree.

Incidentally, his line about 2 women sitting on his dick wasn't the misogyny at all. That was just intensely ugly. Is he actually married? Hmmmmmmm.

You should probably educate yourself as to the actual meanings of those words.

Surely being overheard when you think you're in private is indicative of your true feelings, rather than what you say in public,no?

He's not exactly the sharpest tool, but is entertaining to watch fight

I can understand some people not liking McGregor, but I do think the reaction to this is a little OTT. Different swear words can lose meaning to some people over time.

Take the term b*stard for example. A lot of people use this on a daily basis as a disparaging term, but they are not questioning the parentage of the person it's aimed at. It has a generic insult / swear word. I have heard quite a few people use the F word regularly, particularly Dubs from working class backgrounds, who treat LGBT people well in every other way. Some may take offense, but it's very clear it wasn't intentional by how live their lives otherwise.

Maybe he did mean it in the context it was taken. I dont think he did personally.

FFS. Its a word thats used a lot from childhood, not meaning "gay". I wouldn't use it and Conor shouldn't either but no biggie. Tensions were high at the time.

    As Louis CK says.

He didn't merely trot out a line, he actively encouraged people to vote YES when he could've said nothing at all. If he truly is homophobic or hates gay people, why would he do that? So much easier to keep silent on the issue, especially in the macho world of MMA.

He was a couple of days away from fighting Aldo when he said this at a media day to promote his UFC 189 main event against Jose Aldo. "We all deserve equal rights. We're all human here at the end of the day -- regardless of color, gender, sexuality. Any of that. It's all meaningless. We all deserve the same rights. It just feels right to me."

I don't think he'd be doing business with people of colour if he was a true racist. I don't think he'd be actively encouraging people to vote yes for equality if he was a true homophobe. He makes daft comments. He makes crass comments. He's not always tasteful. However, it's refreshing that people can be a little rough around the edges and be themselves from time to time in a world of pre-scripted, cliche-laden soundbite-heavy interviews.

I'm not even a fan of his but Jesus if I had a microphone in my face every time I said something offensive as a casual flippant insult I'd be ran off the planet. He has apologised and that should be the end of it really.

If you don’t understand why people are angry about him saying it, youve never been beaten by attackers screaming fa**ot and hospitalised. You’ve never been chased by people calling you fa**ot looking to beat you up. You lve never been able to simply hold your boyfriends hand in town without someone shouting fa**ot at you.

He’s a pig ignorant moron. That was no apology. He tried to make himself out to be the victim ffs. And he sent ONE tweet about marriage equality. He certainly did not ‘campaign’ for it, that’s pure bull him saying that.

He needs to properly apologise but tbh if if it’s as pathetic and peurile and self serving as the one he made on the late late he can keep it.

Beating up women didn't stop Floyd Mayweather getting to the top of his sport.
McGregor didn't fight him for the craic, he did it for the money.
