No generator. I'll have to wing it. I'm planning to milk around 10 on Monday and that's it till Tuesday morning, assuming we have power.

I’ve posted a link to my post in the chit chat thread but if you’ve no generator,I’d try look into doing something
The esb will be very very busy

What would be the minimum amount need for a silage sample? Will be posting it tomorrow. Would a handful be enough?

Pretty much a waste of time getting analysis done unless you core the pit in as many places as possible...

We do FECs on lambs here and some farmers arrive with samples form 2 or 3 lambs out of maybe 100.......amazing how uncommon commonsense is, like any average it's hit and miss

but the more samples the more accurate

Well the boy set off for Gurteen a little earlier than normal this evening - not because he was worried about missing a day of college but, apparently, because he has a relief milking gig on the go up there that he doesn't want to miss.

It's not as if he doesn't get a good allowance, so there must be either a girl or a gambling debt involved.

If you have the pit face opened take a few samples in the shape of a w across the pit. I think that's the advice. Where you take the sample wouldn't want to be exposed to air too long tho

I think the milk lorries here are waiting for the storm.

It's supposed to come tomorrow here.
The tank can hold 3 days milk but I doubt it'll hold 4.

    It better go tonight.

Wonder will we still be on everyday collection?

Hope your right but I don't want to be without power again for days and cows to be milked.

There's been no downgrades. If anything it's stronger than they thought it would be at this stage.
Be as prepared as you can be for the worst.

Be sure you install a change over switch for safety

All Kerry stores closed tomorrow and milk collections will be disrupted. Collected today and the driver reckons the lorries will stay away tomorrow.

This storm or whatever it is now is coming a lot faster than anticipated now.
It'll make landfall about 5 am at this rate and could be gone by 12 or 1.

Wexford and Waterford looks like the worst affected areas.

Edit: I retract the 12 or 1. But it is steaming along now on the jet stream.
Mt Cranium has updated his forecast for this on his forecast sticky thread.

It doesn't matter if you have a job or not. Common sense has to be uesd here.

All Arrabawn stores closing at 11

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭einn32

Milk won't go until tomorrow here, couldn't get tanker in yesterday. Wind is severe so I'm expecting no power and trees down when I go out after. As long as the animals are good though I'll take it.
