Okay, I'm just gonna come out and say this...the intro music in Streets of Rage syncs up so much better with the PAL video. I mean, the rest of the game is cack in 50hz, but the intro...perfect.

So my adventures in teaching myself to solder stuff properly continued over the past few days.

Whilst I still haven't gotten my 50/60hz switch working properly on the Mega Drive yet (it's stuck in 60hz mode) I did manage to modify the Sonic Mania statue.

Did you know that although there's points on the board for an LED and an actual working LED on the board that whichever Chinese manufacturer they got to make the statues didn't bother wiring it up?

    Behold:

You can see it in action here:

Definitely recommend doing it if you have any spare wire lying around. It adds something that I felt was missing to the statue.

That LED might not last long if there isnt a resistor in series with it on the cathode leg.

Check to see if it gets hot. Worst thing a resistor can do is make it look less bright.

If anyone wants to know, the first episode of Red Dwarf XII is up a week early on demand on Sky.

Actually scratch that. Since theres an LED marking on the board they must have a resistor possibly in the chip on the same board already.

Can you report websites like this?

Are should they be allowed to bring more Retro to the masses.

They are as bad as the Retrobox outfit from Ireland, like selling Snow to the Inuit.
A Raspberry Pi, in a cheap case, with a knock off controller and a micro SD card with a image they downloaded online.
Probably cost them €40 for everything.
Making €80 off of the weak minded.

    Oh they charge more.
    https://teamretrobox.com/product/retrobox-silver/
    €150 for 2 controllers.

Better value than scalpers with a snes mini mind you.

If anyone is foolish enough to be convinced to buy this stuff, and there must be plenty out there, let them at it.
A quick google will give them all the details they need to make a choice, a good one or otherwise.

Most of these sites seem to smart enough to avoid mention of "Raspberry Pi" or "Retropie" just in case people realise what sort of chancers they all actually are.

The mark up on these things doesn't insult me that much. Same thing with overpriced arcade equipment for the casual fan. They're mostly being flogged by one or two man operations and in my work I regularly bill people €80 for a fairly small portion of my time.

If it's something like the SNES mini they've probably got a 1000% markup, they're selling at scale, and it's a big corporation. Do we really need to report somebody to the retro police (anyway I hear they're tied up with a major federal case ATM) for flipping a few bits of plastic from China?

No, but some of the marketing is pretty appalling.
And, given that there is no effort in these things at all, a typical 10 year old going to Coder Dojo at the weekends could put these things together with ease.

Still, people and their money and all that, if it's worth it to someone to pay those prices let them at it, there'll always be someone to exploit their lack of confidence/ignorance.

If Nintendo do take a case against one of these groups there isn't any defence really, and they probably operate knowing that.

Some people are terrified of any technical tinkering. Yes, it's pretty simple to setup a Retropie system but some will pay to avoid any hassle.

Legally of course they are screwed if they supply ROMs as part of the product.

Reminds me of the now dead Sky card sharing - I know some were paying €130 a year for access, with a lot of that for the convenience of not needing to know any of the technical details. They could have switched supplier and got if for €40, 5 minutes of very simple technical stuff was all it would have taken.

Another dubious retro related crowd funding campaign is underway; the Seedi, an emulation box that emulates disc based games. Under the hood is the poor mans raspberry pi, the Orange Pi. It also contains libretro cores for older systems despite the retroarch developers asking them not to.
Link to the campaign on the ever reliable indiegogo:rolleyes:

Not retro but just read that Child of Eden, the sequel to Rez, is now playable on the XB1.
No Kinect support and that's a good thing!
Looking forward to giving it a shot later this evening.

Bought Child of Eden in a bargain bin a few years back. Definitely lacking something I couldn't bring myself to play it for very long. I think Rez is a game that's bordering on being dull but the execution of all the elements was so strong it keeps you locked in all the way through.

Was doing a bit of random ebay browsing this evening and decided to see if NGP games had gone up in value at all (I haven't really been into collecting them in a good 3-4 years so had no clue)

    Indeed they have!

    Going by ebay sold listings;

Metal Slug 2 is now sitting around the 100+ mark

    Sonic is selling for 50-70.

Funnily enough, one of the big rare titles from back when I used to collect was Faselei, which seems to have remained unchanged in price.

Haha I had recently started looking at them again ... I lasted about a half hour before I convinced myself to just stick with AES

Not surprised. I remember about people going for full sets back in the first Retro (Edge) magazine in like 2003. In fact might dig it out see what the prices were.

Says prices range from 20 to 50 pounds, except Pocket Reversi which went for 120 pounds, and there are only two copies known to exist.

Wow, my collection is finally worth something!
Unfortunately, many NGPC games are released in later years in blister packs on eBay, from the US.
So now boxes and that valuation drops.
But, I've the Metal Slug games and most of the other decent titles on the system, won't sell them though, I'll only want to buy them back the next day!

A lad I know is looking for a cab.

Now this fella works long hours so doesn't have time or knowledge to be building or setting up like I think he should.

Anyone got a good lead on multicabs?

GOAT videogame advert series. I don't think they'd sell a Dreamcast but they're hilarious.

I'm in frontline care of vulnerable adults here and most staff made it in, and are here for the day.
Admin have all buggered off though!

Still, fingers crossed it'll all be alright, just making sure the bases are covered prior to the storm landing, many community houses out around the north county, might have to watch Twister to get tips on driving in inclement weather!
