Not aimed at anyone in particular as there is a lot of them involved but some have put personal stories of family loss or battled with cancer with their posts and it just sits wrong with me when it's followed by #ad.
The Centra/Irish Cancer Society #cupsforcancer on instagram.  Even if they're being paid by Centra and not ICS, it still sits wrong in my eyes. I'd rather people do charity promo because they want to, not because they're being paid.

Couldn't agree more Lindy. So far I have seen Louise Cooney , Faces by Grace and Courtney Smith put up this post all with #ad. I don't agree with anyone taking payment for promotion of a charity regardless of where the payment comes from. Do it for free and with a good heart.

Was this the Great Ireland run? She was paid to promote that. The fundraising was her own idea yes but it came off the paid promotion she was doing for the GIR. She didn't do the run out of the blue. I also haven't heard her mention them since or do any fundraising.

Well she did in fairness to her, and raised a good chunk of money (donated by her followers), but like this campaign, I'd have a lot more respect for any of them if they did it regularly and it wasn't part of some paid promotion, if that makes sense. Or if they let everyone know they've donated their fee also.

Speaking of bloggers and promoting charity runs - Rosie Connolly was featured a bit in the promotion of The Great Pink Run this year, I don't follow her social media but I do follow the Great Pink Run facebook page. I don't recall seeing her at the Dublin run. Shane Byrne (ex rugby player) was definitely at it, so too was Fergal D'Arcy from Today FM - but in fairness them two fellas are hard to miss!

Jesus if irish bloggers are getting paid to promote charity thats a new low

I actually couldn't imagine opening up about something so close to me like that all while having AD thrown across the screen. I'd feel inauthentic and as though my feelings were bought and my sincerity diluted.

Just to point out- Sinead from the beautiful truth explained that when she was promoting childline, she was going to do it for free because she didn't want to take money from a charity, but when she found out it was a different company paying her, she accepted the money and donated it to childline. She still had to #ad though as she had taken money, so it could be the same as the centra crowd.

Very true. Thanks for pointing that out

And fair play to Sinead from The Beautiful Truth for being completely upfront and honest about it. It only took her a few minutes to explain it. It made sense and now both blogger and follower are happy and can focus on the message and the charity involved, instead of turning it into another ad/sp debate!

Is there anything she doesn't do right? I fall more in love with her every day :pac:

I know! She does, or at least tries her best to do, everything blog-wise by the book. She's active across various social media platforms, she actually writes blog posts, she does videos, there's no BS, she "calls a spade a spade" in her own words, she #ad or #sp when and where is appropriate. And all of this while working in a tough job, raising a baby, being married, having a life and maintain some privacy.
In short: if she can do it; why can't others?!

This is exactly why I like her so much. How come none of these other bloggers can follow suit? If I was a blogger/influencer there would be no way I’d take money from a charity. It makes me feel so uneasy tbh

This is hat I was thinking, they could accept and then donate it back, and since a payment was made they need to # for revenue etc. That's what I'd do and I'd make it very clear that's what I had done so there was no question surrounding it. I'd rather not have folks thinking ill of me if my career involved public support.

If faces had accepted the money and donated it back , let’s be honest, we would have heard about it. I’m sure she would be singing it from the rooftops

Same! They do it properly, as blogging should be.

Oh she's great craic. I howled laughing at her description of her debs dress - laughing (with her, not at her). Karen telling the story of her aunt making the dress and she had no say and was forced to wear those gloves that have a loop for your middle finger and how she sent them sailing away once she left. It was brilliant and then everyone sharing their debs photos on her Facebook page. It was just so refreshing from all the flogging that bloggers do and the fancy lights and filters. Karen seems pretty down to earth too.

Also, an amazing collection of scarves.

I love Karen she's def someone I could get on with in person she's so nice and really really down to earth

Yep she’s definitely one of my favourite bloggers.
I never really warmed to the beautiful truth, but that’s purely because she reminds me totally of an ex work colleague who I can’t stand, but by all accounts she seems to be one of the genuine ones.

I followed her for a while, I couldn't for the life of me warm up to her and unfollowed because I just flicking over her content. I'd love to enjoy her posts but there's just something thats not there for me. I'm probably a weirdo as everyone else seems to like her

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭Ray37

No matter what way you slice it, I find taking payment from a charity to be disgusting. Utter greed.

Sosueme had ad all over her sc today for the skechers event. Showed the two pairs she got.

Louise from style me curvy had no ad, said they'd gifted her a pair (though probably two as well) and said there was something wrong with her phone.

I think she just doesn't want to do the # cos she has said "my phone wasn't working while i was in there" a few too many times during things she should be declaring for it to be plausible.

Terrie McEvoy was at the event too and she also got a pair of Sketchers (I'm assuming they were gifted and she didn't pay for them). She didn't hashtag so maybe Sue was the only one of them that was paid?

Is she good for doing the #ad thing?
Maybe so, I get irrationally angry at them when i see the same event and one has declared and the others not.

Aww I quite like Louise, she's comes across as really sweet and likeable. She does declare on her social media and blog posts (yes she actually write blog posts!) so I would have assumed she's ok at declaring stuff.
I would imagine though if you were #ad or #sp, one of the conditions would be a certain level of coverage on social media. The "opps my phone's not working" doesn't float it when you are being paid or sponsored to do something by a brand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 957 ✭✭✭MuffinTop86

I like her a lot too, and yes about the blogs.
I'd hate to think she's trying to pull a fast one.
If you're a blogger and invited to press releases you'd be as useful as a screendoor on a submarine without a phone.
Unless she brought a camera and is writing a blog post on it, unlikely though.

What are all your thoughts on there being #ad on 30% of the snaps? Should they have to put it on every snap to donwith event or product? Or is very 4-5 snaps sufficient! I think they should have them on all snaps! That's what their paid to do!
