I'm pretty sure there is at least one 2 Michelin star pub in the UK, but in general I'd agree. That could (hopefully) hopefully change with the ongoing criticism of the Michelin Guide

There might be others, but Tom Kerridge's pub the Hand and Flowers has two stars iirc

That's the one I was thinking of.

New kitchen is continuing apace. Well, I say new, it's second hand but top quality. Picked up new oven and hob yesterday; electric and gas respectively. I'm away at the weekend, when they will likely be plumbed in, so everyone has been warned that they christen them on pain of pain.

The Wild Honey Inn in Lisdoonvarna is the first pub in Ireland to achieve a Michelin star. I have to say, as someone who has eaten there recently, I’m a bit surprised. The food was nice but I didn’t find it to be exceptional. I much prefer Roadford nearby. Anyone else eaten at Wild Honey?

How long has it been open? I used to be up that way loads before and never heard of it.

Well, I’ve been there twice, in 2012 and 2015. Dunno how long before 2012 it opened. It was very, very nice but I didn’t leave thinking I’d had really outstanding food. But it’s two years since I’ve eaten there, maybe they’ve upped their game in that time.

Has anyone any recipes that are tasty for lentils, black beans or chickpeas please? I've never cooked with black beans before. I make falafel from chickpeas and use lentils in Dahl and in a butternut squash dish but looking for more ideas please?

There is actually a really quick curry kinda thing that I've seen on pioneer woman, tweaked it and when it has to be really fast, it's nice.

    http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/chickpea-curry/

When you season it right, that's a nice very basic and not too complex one where you can put a lot of other things in. And every illiterate can cook that.

Apple and Sausage Casserole from the Slow Cooker thread is a great way of using up beans/chickpeas.

Those smoky lentils sound amaaaazing - I will most definitely be trying that one out :)

(Also, I know I'm not the only one who speed-scrolls past all the filler stuff that's become nearly unavoidable lately - all that guff about how the author feels about lentils, how GamGam always used Fuddle's brand tomatoes in her recipes etc. etc.)

The Pioneer Woman is desperate for that kind of thing, thankfully there's a printable link on all her recipes that cuts out all that nonsense.

I wouldn’t consider it filler or nonsense for a food blog to have blog content rather than just a recipe. I love reading well written, enthusiastic blogs posts about food.

    Do, it's proper comfort food.

I don't mind the waffle if it's about the food, but when they're talking about their kids' school, or their pet chicken's rivalry with the local pigeons, and their husband's athlete foot then it's annoying.

I use a tin and a half of chopped tomatoes.

Well, sort of. Food blogs seem to have settled on a formula: in order - general sh1t/recipe specific sh1t/the recipe/links to other blog challenges(!)/an appeal for comments. And that's without those bloggers who are there for the freebies that might come their way:
    Example:
    http://www.talesfromthekitchenshed.com/about/
As a PR friendly blog I’m happy to review or test products and ingredients related to baking, seasonal cooking or slow cooking.

Find those that are "well written, enthusiastic blogs posts about food" and ... winner :)

It is the middle of October & I can still spread butter straight from the press. If that isn't evidence of climate change I don't know what is.

There's still some good drying out.

Thanks for the recipes. I'm doing a big food shop later for the ingredients and I'll cook some of them during the week.

Black bean HAVE to be in a thick stew and be wrapped into burritos, it is their entire reason of being.

Really, really simple recipe, but soooo much taste.

In fairness, I find Camile awful, I had it before and was very disappointed.
And Bombay pantry is overpriced and overrated imo, it's a bit of a hipster dig.
Also Eddie Rockets on the list? Come on....

But boojum and Firehouse are really nice.

I really like Eddie Rockets food, tbh. We have a Captain Americas, TGI and Eddies at the local shopping centre and if I fancied a burger and fries it'd be Eddie's every time.

Don't get me wrong, Eddie Rocket's is alright and the kid loves it and they have few nice things but personally I wouldn't call it award-winning (have never been to the one in Stillorgan though).

I used to get food from Camile Thai in Omni & found it consistently good. Can't comment on other branches though.

We sticked with kanoodle after our Camile disappointment (might have been Omni or Phibs, can't remember), liked it so much more.
