Parlour wasn't big enough tbh- more units going in for next spring

Sold some high ebi cows that I didn't like tbh and low and behold their ebi plummeted like hell

March was the only busy month tbh and we haven't been busy since

Took on another farm that will prob eventually be turned to a milking platform- build numbers organically and then convert them to dairy stock

    Organic growth and no borrowing

Ho bull beef financed us to get back into cows. They are good convertors of quality forage. No need for ad lib conc rations. 380-400kg carcasses at 18-20 months. They'll be easy to shift May/June '19.

I've a lot of spare milk between now and the year end if I don't dry off early.

Thinking of feeding a bunch of autumn bull calves into the new year and then putting them out at the new out-farm in the new season.

Only bugger is we are tight on nitrates already here, but I don't suppose a dozen bull calves is going to make things or break them.

Have you applied for a derogation? Ups limit to 250 from 170.

The same could potentially be done to fat supplements like megafat here if enough started using it

No problem feeding it but the main concern was the mix
Too much of one ingredient going down the chute as opposed to another

End of March I think, for that year, not for the previous year!

Crowleys have that for when meal enters the bin, would it separate again going out? Haven't fed meal in parlour feeders yet, distant memories of dad belting the old bin to get meal out every milking, that was years ago tho with a corrugated bin

I'm nearly sure it's November of the year your applying for.

I'm going about it at the moment with my Teagasc advisor for this year anyway.

Well I'm nearly sure it's the end of March lol (unless there is an extension, which there was until mid April this year due to a backlog. What your prb thinking about is exporting slurry or dung to get you back under 170kg, that can be done until the 31st of Dec, so if say kowtow is proper stuck and well over his 170 now, but has a neighbour willing to take his slurry that is his only option to stay compliant this year.

Have you many left for the autumn? Sorry to hear that if anything adds heart breaking work it's that fcuking thing. My little calf drank the biestings but can't stand, half throwing herself about the place.

Was on top of my head yesterday morning, oh away and welding man came to fix up sheds before cows came in, so didnt get to check calves until later than normal, was too late for one calf. 8 left to calve .

I'd source parafor as quick as possible if I were you Whelan. That and vitalife. You should be able to save the 2 wobbly ones. I was on halacour and calves hot crypto at about 18 days. Haven't had a problem since I switched to parafor.

Vitalife is an electrolyte. I was giving some yoghurt aswell instead of milk if they weren't feeding. You get big tubs in lidl or aldi. Got that off here last spring.

It's good alright but it's a pain in the ass to use. It has to be dissolved first before being given and when there are a good few calves to do, it does get annoying giving a few mls to each calf. Halocur is just squirt and move on.
