Different hurlers hard to compare . Keaney was playing teams on his own at 18/19/20 . Kelly was on AI winning teams

It's really not hard to compare at all, holy mother of god we are talking about one of the greatest ever to play the sport

Kelly played minor with Tipp for 4 years and was on the senior team at 18 :D seriously stop digging!

And I think we have derailed the Clare thread enough at this stage!

No surprises in the football games yesterday. It's kilrush v kildysart and kilmihil v coolmeen in the intermediate semi finals. What would happen if clondegad are drawn to play the winners of lissycasey/ennistymon? They have already played lissycasey and repeat games are supposed to be avoided. I presume the county board will want to avoid a similar situation to the O'Currys/Miltown Malbay farce

to be fair they shouldnt have over complicated things by bringing in the rule in the first place , but yeah they have made a right balls of things this year with it

dont think either lissycasey nor ennistymon will object as there is no option really but yeah why have a rule in place and not use it properly

Very hard to see Kilkee surviving but then again you wouldn't know what team Wolfe Tones would have. Kilkee relegation has been on cards for years as completely took eye at juvenile level while neighbouring clubs Naomh Eoin and O'Currys have a lot of young players coming through.

Currys and naomh eoin have brought through some descent underage but they are still struggling to keep on to them both have lads in college and working all over the country. I believe training isn't the easiest to arrange. Especially how far back they are based

Can't explain kilkee whatsoever impossible to explain what's happening there

    In the Intermediate Quarter Finals

Killaloe beat Scarriff by 1 point - Killaloe were ahead by 9 at one stage before Scarriff got going.
Tubber Beat Broadford 1-18 to 2-10
Parteen beat Newmarket 0-15 to 0-12
    Kilmaley beat Sixmilebridge (2)

Also, the Bridge's 3rd team were relegated back to Junior A after being beaten by Killanena

The two hot favourites for the Clare SHC have been kept apart in the semi final draw ,
Sixmilebridge play neighbours Newmarket-On-Fergus, and Clonlara play Clooney-Quin

Anyone go the football games yesterday? cooraclare miltown sounds like it was a good battle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,571 ✭✭✭finbarrk

Cooraclare could only score a point in the first half. That was their downfall. Played well in the second half though but too late to make a comeback.

I believe there will be a number of managerial vacancies for the underage Clare football intercounty teams next year. The Clare U20 footballers will have new management for 2018 after Neil Hawes, Martin Brennan and Donal O'Hanafein decided not to continue in their roles. While there is speculation that Seamus Clancy has stepped down as Clare minor football boss after one year in the role although someone here can confirm this?

It is vital that the Clare county board get these underage football management appointments right as Clare underage football badly needs some much needed silverware and compete in Croke Park and in the business end of provincial and all-ireland championships on a much more regular basis then what is actually happening at the moment.

Hard to see anything but a sixmilebridge and clonlara final. Niall o Connor is a big loss to Newmarket. Clooney quin should give a good account of themselves but would have clonlara as favourites. Still a bit galling to most neutrals to see Cathal Malone lining out with the bridge. It's a big village at this stage and doesn't really need a "transfer policy" as such. Plenty of numbers there.

Neil Moynihan has stepped down as Clare ladies football manager after 2 years in charge. Moynihan guided Clare to the All-Ireland Intermediate Football Final last year before losing to Kildare by just a point. This year they bowed out to Meath in the quarter-final stage of the same competition. The Galway man lost the services of dual star Niamh O'Dea to the Clare camogie side earlier in the year and by all accounts was known to be a robust operator and that not every player was happy with Moynihan's man-management.

The Clare Ladies Football board are now in the process of taking applications for the vacant manager's post.
