Great news for Clare football that Colm Collins will be staying on as Clare senior football boss for 2018. This will be his the fifth year in charge of the team. It is understood that Alan Flynn will stay on as team coach while the rest of the backroom team is yet to be finalised.

I'm also hearing that there will be a change of management for the Clare U-17 and U-20 footballers next year but if anyone else has any information on who will take over these teams then that would be most welcome.

It appears that Brendan Bugler, two time All-Star has announced his retirement from the Clare senior hurling team (via the Indo). It has been speculated that Pat Donnellan will also confirm that he will hang up his boots and that other players including Cian Dillon will be travelling the world for next year meaning that they may not be available for selection in 2018.

Excellent news. CC has brought Clare football forward big time. Hopefully can bring more players on board next year. I can understand lads not committing to Division 4 but madness players not wanting to play Division 2 football. Lack of bench killed them in most games.

I think Miltown will win but the other game is hard to call. A KIB and Miltown final would be very interesting, not sure if it has ever happened?

I'm going to go with Cratloe and Clondegad. Just think Cratloe will edge KIB the other one is just a hunch.

    Yeah its official now.

Ive massive respect for Bulger. A true leader of our team in 2013, finishing his career with an AI, National League and 2 All Stars is nothing to be sniffed at. I think in Buglers prime (2012-2013) he should be rated very highly in terms of Clare half backs. I know we have produced alot of great half backs over the years, some were definitely better than him, but still Bugs should be thought of very highly. In those years he was an All Star he truely had the ability to dominate his position and lead the team. Not the level of Stack, Seanie, Loughnane, Doyle, etc, etc, but still a hugely formidable player on his best day.

He was in decline over the last few years and probably has made the right call, with a young family too. Wish him the best, he comes across as a gent.

fantastic statement by bugs , serious player even in the dark days before the win in 2013 he was outstanding , read an interview on how far he went in regards commitment , what he ate , how few nights out he had, family sacrifices compleatly mind boggling how far the guy went just to wear the clare jersey

would have fitted perfactly in along side the lohans , daly or liam doyle back in the 90s era , enjoy the retirement Brendan

Second semi final on the same day as senior hurling final?

Second semi final on the same day as senior hurling final?

No choice really, Munster club is down to be played the 12th of Nov and there needs to be a 2 week break between semi final and final for both teams (or 1 week for both teams) so if they don't play it this weekend they are f**ked if there's a draw

Would double header Saturday have made more sense and even bring a bigger crowd?

It would have but that would mean that 1 of the teams only had 6 days to prepare for the semi final (replay last weekend)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭ShortKickOut

Clareman semi finals are not on until next weekend no no 6 day turnaround there. Double header was probably complicated by hurling final on Sunday and looking to preserve Cusack Park and the park would be the only place for these games. Cratloe don't play back west which is a pity. Could have had Doonbeg jam packed Saturday week with a great atmosphere.

Kilmihil would have been the best place for Clondegad and Miltown, Cooraclare is a bottleneck.

I always thought that Cratloe usually play the football games in Ennis as it's halfway between most of the teams but do they actually refuse to come back west to play championship games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭ShortKickOut

That wasn't a slight at Cratloe is is fair enough that they play the majority of games around Ennis. It's just a double header in West Clare would be a great evening particulary with probably the best 4 teams in the county are in action.

Colin Ryan becomes the second Clare hurler to announce his retirement from inter-county hurling this week. A real warrior and an outstanding player for both club and county I want to say thank you for everything that you gave for Clare and wish you all the best for the future. A recent new arrival in the Ryan family household along with commitments with Clare soccer and Newmarket Celtic meant that Ryan could not give the full commitment for inter-county hurling for 2018 and beyond.

Class player, Colin Ryan. Best of luck to him.

almost 100% sure they refuse to play in west clare where possible at collins's request , no idea exactly why but lissycasey is the furthest west they have come back to play a championship match against kilkee i think a few years ago

was really hoping he would give it another year with clare before he hung up the boots , played excellent stuff in the championship this year we have yet to replace him

i called for him to be dropped a few years ago thinking we could manage with kelly on frees .... how wrong i was , super player who never got enough credit

Anyone hearing rumours about betting irregularities over the weekend? Especially in connection to the first semi final? A few murmurings on Facebook this evening...
    tatoo wrote: »
I would say that those rumours are complete and utter rubbish.

Apparently not, from what I have heard two players have been identified from CCTV pictures and are or have been interviewed. Really hope it all BS but if found to be true it will cast a serious shadow over not only Clare hurling but the entire organisation.
