Just on cod, he comes across as someone peddling furiously underneath the surface to stay afloat.

Quick example. Yesterday he interviews Michael Martin and one of the questions was does MM hate Sinn Fein?

MM said hate is the wrong word.

Quick as a flash Chris says "despise?"-I don't know if he was trying to get a laugh or what. MM ignored it.

It sounded very immature and naive and typical of COD's character.

Chris D is your typical far left hypocritical, anti democratic limousine liberal. Vomit inducing.

What NT don't realise is that they've lost a ton of listeners.

I am one of the "lefties" yet I have been completely opposite to what you describe there.

    Silly generalisations are silly

I'm just happy George is gone. Literally anyone they replace him with will be an improvement. Even if they just play a 500Hz test tone for 2 hours it'd be an improvement.

    That'll bring in the listeners alright . . .

I don't care whether it does or not. As long as I don't have to listen to a doting windbag go off on tangents about the Christian brothers or slobbering over Pamela Anderson I'm happy.

Must be hard havin a radio stuck on one station, glued to your head, with no off button

No-one was forcing you to listen to him.
How can you not realise this? Or are you locked in a gimp dungeon against your will?

I suppose it would be if I found myself in that predicament.

I own a normal radio though and I like to be able to flick between stations without happening across an obnoxious bag of wind wrestle with the English language as he alternates between nostalgic, senile dribblings about the Cork of his youth and giving the business to Muslims, feminists and rape victims.

Christ, you must hate so much about daily life.

All those choices, horrible horrible choices. If only you could know the time and station to avoid.

That one syllable ofhook's you catch as you 'move the dial' through the stations must be agony for you.

Lot of people taking the Hook-hate personally here. I'm not having a go at you guys, just saying I'm holding out some hope that Newstalk find a more worthy custodian of the 12-2pm slot.

There's never been a weaker comeback for anything than "don't like it, don't listen".

How exactly? I hate Paul Williams, so I now don't listen to newstalk breakfast at all, quite easy to do really

So in practice "not for me, but sure leave him at it".

But if you listen to a show that you don't like you are contributing to the listenership numbers. The listenership numbers determine whether or not the show is successful, do they not? And whether or not potential sponsors decide to sponsor the programme? No point in sponsoring if the listenership is low, wouldn't make commercial sense.

National and regional midday radio is a bit of a sh*tscape so I find myself flitting between stations. I inevitably turn off Hook in exasperation and disgust after 5 mins.

As is your prerogative. But I for one enjoyed George hook and my choice to listen to him has now been removed.

No offence buts that not my concern. I don't care how much you liked him anymore than you care about how much I detested him. Sounded like the Daily Mail being read by an anthropomorphic silage pit. Hopefully they'll replace him with someone we can all listen to.

I don't think such a person exists but good luck with it anyway!

And how many times do you hear of instances like this, compared to the innumerable amount of times we hear of motorists causing death by their own negligence? Very very rarely for cyclists. But how many of those motorists are done for manslaughter? Rarer than hen's teeth.

Cyclist was killed in the phoenix park after hitting a pedestrian.
Pedestrian was in the bike lane

The show is still listed on Newstalk and with Hook as the presenter; though I suspect this is for legal reasons on Communicorp's part as to remove same now would help the case so to speak (from Hook's perspective re. a constructive dismissal case). I predicted last week there may be some procedural legal/HR issues around how this had been handled to date, and it's likely they're watching their every step on this now. Personally, I don't think he'll be back and I do think it's wrong on many levels.

I do hope however that certain people don't profit from this, namely one - and yes, she is a woman, to paraphrase.

See theres the difference, I hate paul williams cus hes quite simply sh1t at his job. I disagree with George on many things however living in my own echo chamber listening to only people and opinions I agree with is boring and quite simply lazy. I enjoy challenging my own opinions by hearing different viewpoints as they help me better understand and develop me own beliefs and opinions.

You don't like George cus you disagree with him and therefore want him to lose his job which is just sad and petty

So the only people allowed present radio are those everyone can agree with? Sounds pretty boring to me.

Would you put the same draconian limitations on journalists writing in newspapers, presenters on TV or anyone writing or making anything on the internet too?

Well root-a-toot for you and your bubble-bursting, opinion-challenging crusade against echo chambers.

My chief problem isn't his opinions, because really I don't think he has the compos mentis to form actual opinions. He's basically a massive pub bore who has to resort to the laziest, clapped-out, dumb-as-ditch, clichéd provocations to pass himself off as someone with something to say. The whole thing is a shuck, a pose - he doesn't understand enough to really believe half the crap he says.

And worst of all, he was trying (and failing) to package this fraudulent performance in the style of a US shock jock (he even started calling people "snowflakes" which im sure the clapping seals among his listeners couldn't get enough of).

Okay so you admit you don't listen to him but still want him off the air?

DID I say that? I must be a hell of guesser if I haven't ever listened to him. As I said only a few posts above, I encounter him during my daily station hoping. Newstalk would actually be very listenable from 9am through to 4pm if you removed Hook from the schedule and replaced him with something substantially less odious. So yeah, I want him off the air.

Think the rubberbandits pointed out the hypocrisy of George Hook (and seemingly his followers) free speech support today on facebook.

    George is oh so controversial.

Not until you start wasting my time with boring geriatric drivel on a national station.

At the same time though, i wouldnt read to much into what two tossers who wear plastic bags think. They are themselves fairly hypocritical in the politics they support.

I wouldn't disagree, i like George but his drive time slot was always allot more structured and measured. He replaced a slot that was for the most part news led and reacting to what happened that morning.

I used to tune in specifically during lunch time to get that and Hooks slot wasn't the same.

Saying that it wasn't for me but i can see why others liked it.
