I suspect that it's probably not all down to money, she may be tired of being a GP, it's a stressful enough job.

As I said before if she gets in a locum and she takes advantage of all her media work opportunities (while they're on offer) it may make more sense financially.

BTW, Gavin Jennings, the Morning Ireland Presenter is a qualified GP too but he has opted for a career on radio.

For asking the most stupid question I've ever heard? How about asking, "Should drivers be jailed for manslaughter if they kill people?", which is far more apposite, though it wouldn't suit George because he's already been convicted of speeding. He's a fcuking idiot and I'm glad he's been permanently silenced.

Makes sense, i hope she does what she can to make it a reality but she really needs to change her approach.

Niall Boylan comes out with this sh|t, and worse, all the time.
It's inciting debate. He's a presenter. I'd not get too offended.

Can cyclists be done for driving causing death? is there an equivalent? If not then i can see where he was coming from.

You can see where he's coming from? Really? I mean, the amount of cyclists who kill people is multiples of the amount of drivers who kill people

Take the angry cyclist stick elsewhere, everyone has a responsibility out on the roads to behave within the law. The most vulnerable on the roads are pedestrians i was asking a question if a cyclist killed a pedestrian are there any laws to prosecute them for it?

If there isn't then i could see why he was bringing it up. If i kill someone in my car then i can be done for dangerous driving causing death, why should a cyclist get a free pass if they have broken the law?

Oh Dear God, Harry :( We're on opposing side again. Cyclists who cycle on footpaths drive be MENTAL. At least once a week I have words with a cyclist who I'm sharing the footpath with.

Take a look at the attached picture, I took this picture a few months back when a cyclist insisted on cycling on a footpath. This sort of idiotic behaviour is dangerous especially for elderly people or young children using the paths.

Tell me how many cyclists kill people, as opposed to the number of car drivers who kill people? No "angry cyclist stick" here, I'm just looking at it from a reasonable point of view, which Hook obviously doesn't. Considering twice as many cyclists have been killed on the roads already this year compared to the whole of 2016, I am absolutely delighted that windbag Hook is gone. As I said, he's a fcuking idiot.

That's two hours ****ed up in my day, l loved his show. Out of loyalty to George l won't tune in again to that time slot.
I'd say management are pretty pissed off right now, there could be repercussions for Chris Donohue and Dill.

"Ciara's new show will focus on health, wellbeing and lifestyle"

Yep, on to a winner of a show there.

    Said nobody, ever.

Anyone interested in that drivel will be watching TV3 and Expose.

Why are we even talking cyclist versus cars? if a cyclist kills a pedestrian should or should their not be legislation in place to prosecute or should we just let them off with it because not many cyclists cause deaths?

As bad as hook is you are falling into his trap of cyclists V motorists.

Don't get me wrong Lady C, I have no time for cyclists who use footpaths, but in the grand scheme of things, if a cyclist does something silly they'll usually end up paying the price.
Conversely, if a motorist does something silly, they've got the car to protect them. Hook's attitude towards cyclists was disgusting. He had an undisputed platform to denigrate them, until he flew too close to the sun - Icarus like :)

I have to disagree with this, if you're a pedestrian and you're injured by a cyclist, you have zero comeback. They don't have reg plates on their bikes and most won't have any form of insurance. An elderly neighbour of my parents was hit by a cyclist, she broke her wrist and the cyclist sped off. Some cyclists have zero respect for pedestrians.

I know its not Ireland but we are becoming a society that is promoting and engaging in cycling allot more. We should bring our laws up todate to reflect.

Statistically speaking, the number of cyclists who injure pedestrians compared to the number of motorists who injure or cause death to pedestrians is negligible. Hook blew it all out of proportion because it suited his twisted agenda. It didn't help that his constant crusade against cyclists came in the wake of more cyclist fatalities than ever before.

Never thought I would say this but, bring back that Johanatan whatshisface. At lunchtime 1-2, it should be current affairs, news and whatever was said in the Dail etc that morning. Not some rubbish that men, who mostly tune into the station, do not want to listen to on their lunches. Leave that rubbish for the weekend or just give Moncrief a longer shift, that kind of fluffy studenty empty waffle would suit his show. (I have to had it to Sean Moncrieff, he has a brilliant way of making obscure, pointless , fluffy topics sound interesting)

I suppose I can only speak about my own experience as someone who walks up to 10km every day. At least once a week I experience an issue with a cyclist but I can go months without having a problem with a motorist. When I do have an issue with a motorist it tends to be - when they don't stop at a pedestrian crossing/breaking red lights.

Another observation - I find male motorists very courteous usually if I'm trying to cross the road, they're very good to let me cross. I'm afraid the ladies don't tend to be as accommodating. (Again, this is just my personal experience, I'm sure others with have different experiences).

And how many times do you hear of instances like this, compared to the innumerable amount of times we hear of motorists causing death by their own negligence? Very very rarely for cyclists. But how many of those motorists are done for manslaughter? Rarer than hen's teeth.

Anyone on Facebook and want to support George search and like Bring back George Hook page

I just liked the page and on refreshing browser one of my friends was just after sharing it too. It's reaching out fast. Time for the more mature, less vocal majority to show our support.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,789 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

It's one case. I'm struggling to recall another.

Fact is, even the most egregious cycling activity remains a mild irritation and nothing more. People are statistically far safer around cyclists than they are motorists, even "safe" motorists. You're never fully in control of a car or motorbike.

But Hook has always been a gobshite when it comes to this issue and has no argument to put forward, other than his irritation.

ffs. it was topical, and a high profile case in the UK. british media reported on it every day of the case in the main news of the day. why shouldn't he ask it??

Cyclists; the most downtrodden subsection of society, how they carry on is beyond me.

    Glazers Out!

Ur not serious, do u want me to take to the bed or what? I couldn't deal with that ****ing hell. He probably will get it short term, but i'd say long term either Ciara Kelly or Sarah McInerney will get it. Are we throwing in the towel for poor old George, is there a way back for him, does the final call rest with Dinny?

Ciaran Cuddihy. Was more of an "arts" vibe about it than "appalling racism against (insert group here) in Ireland today"
I'd tune in to him again.
