I wouldn't agree with this to be fair. They have not been tested so you can't say they are really better this year. The players on the bench have been around a long time as well and these guys are not making the team so maybe the hunger is not there. They didn't get all their own way against Carlow and kildare either.

Mayo are toe to toe with them in terms of the starting 15. You can argue about the bench as they have forwards that have the medals.

Anyway this is not the best attitude to have. We are good enough so lets go for the fooking big one.

Personally i think Mayo are weaker this year than last year or perhaps they haven't hit top form, either way they need to step up another gear to have any chance of beating Dublin. Roscommon were weak and Kerry are a poor figure of their former self too.

Terrible to hear of the abuse club officers are getting over the allocation of tickets... Mentioned on that stream and in conversation with others I know who are very involved in various clubs.

I don't know anything about that abuse, but I was taking to two of the lads in place today, both play for their clubs (relatively well know Dublin clubs) they hadn't a hope getting a ticket.
In one case two lads on the senior football team got a ticket,
The other lads got one because one member of the senior hurling team won one and gave it to him.

None of the junior footballers got one from either club.

I've no idea of the figures but I'd say most clubs fix these draws. Pure speculation on my part but you've a better chance of "winning" one if you are on the board, then the senior teams, possibly the junior teams, helpers then a member.

Totally forgot about that,I was intending to go to it.:(

Thanks for the heads up Parlance and your kind advice re purchase of any All Ireland tickets.

Not at all, I hope you didn't get stung. I was going to send you a PM when I spotted you asking, but I had nothing to go on at the time.

Just watching it back now, completely forgot it was on tonight. Nice to get the viewpoint from the 3 Mammies.

The Breaffy chairman made no apologies for saying they sorted out all executives / helpers of the club. They also gave an opportunity of 1 ticket to all adult players. An open draw for the remaining tickets then for the members.

Tbh, I think that's a job done right. He was fuming with the abusive calls and rightly so. Emotions can run him but that's out of order.

Good God Wooly is so biased towards Mayo.

Tbh Joe.ie is so pro-Mayo that it's beyond cringey. I have all their posts hidden but I can't unfollow them as the owner wouldn't be happy!

Wooly does have an awful soft spot for us but the Podcast is fantastic in fairness.

It's a bloody brilliant podcast in fairness and its it's really, really annoying to have to admit that, as Parkinson is an awful tool.

Is the owner of Joe.ie the business man who offered to pay the wages of a Commercial Manager, if the Mayo Co Board agreed to get one in? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Gotta say I love Wooly, defo has a soft spot for us.The live show in the Sportlann pre last year's first game was very enjoyable but he was just as biased.

Yeah it's our very own Castlebar man Mr. Niall McGarry that founded Joe.ie and offered to put up the cash for the commercial manager, top man.

That's him, offered to put 10k towards the salary. No Commerical Manager not appointed yet though.

What's the hold up? I bet here are truckloads of companies/organisations/businesses who would love to get into bed, with such a high profile, blue chip sporting brand as the Mayo football team. It just takes someone with a bit of vision and savvy to make it all happen. Do the aul lad brigade in the co board not want to relinquish that much power, to someone who may not be one of their own ilk?

Lots of nails being hit on the head there. I'm almost certain that their original reason for not having one was that they didn't think the person would pay for themselves... beyond belief really.

Then the 10k offer came in. Then silence. They'll end up giving it to a 2nd cousin that did business studies for the leaving.

From Oct 2016, article in The Mayo News:
MAYO GAA probably need a commercial manager, but can’t afford to employ one at the moment, County Board chairman Mike Connelly revealed at a meeting in MacHale Park, Castlebar last Thursday.
“A commercial manager is probably something that this organisation needs, but at this point in time, we just couldn’t afford it,” he told delegates. “We need to get to a level where we would be able to afford it … At the minute, I just think it’s a bit premature, unfortunately.”

You need to spend money to make money. In a sense Mayo is a brand, a brand that could be a nice little earner! There was an explosion of support and interest with the Horan era and there has been no sign of a decline since then.

A whole load of bullology and tosh of the highest order,I've no doubt such an appointment would pay for itself.

I think there's a bit of a reluctance on the part of the dinosaurs to get down with the cool kid on the block who is a successful entrepreneur and be beholden to same person.

Be shouting for Mayo this week and like your neighbours Galway hope you end the famine on Sunday and bring back Sam to Mayo. Best of luck and hopefully things go to plan. Sorry Dublin but you have enough won.

I listened to the last 3 podcasts back to back yesterday.

There is a lot of confidence there, based on little more than "this is our year", not much in depth tactical analysis.

But something one speaker did say did strike me, he said "we will be back here next year because we are so far ahead of the rest".

And I think he is right, we are so far ahead of the rest.

Galway and Roscommon for all the talk of them are not still a long way off challenging for anything.

If Tyrone are best Ulster has to offer then that does not say much.

    Leinster is a wasteland.

Kerry, after spending from April to August "getting closer to Dublin" are now back in transition, and it looks like a manager who has been very reluctant to try younger guys is still in charge.

Now Mayo will have older guys retiring or playing a reduced role but there are still a lot of very experienced players in their prime on that team.

So next year I can easily see Mayo negotiate a QF group and be back in a least a SF, regardless of how Sunday turns out.

Given that can anyone explain the logic of the super 8? Seems to me there will just be a larger number of walkovers.

The theory is that the weaker counties get more playing time against the stronger counties and it will improve them over time.

The cynical view is the extra money.

I believe that will absolutely be the case. There is no crisis with the Squads age profile. You could lose the likes of Boyler, Seamie and Andy and have Durcan, Coen and Loftus slot in. Some big boots to fill but all 3 are progressing well.
We'll probably see 2 or 3 of the development squad / u21s make a move over the winter too to add to the bench.

Don't get me started on the "going to the well" too many times stuff either. If you're dying of the thirst, going to the well isn't a problem.

I know its not you that said it but I think that is terrible aul **** talk about next year. That drives me nuts. We have been at that crap for years and no SAM. There are no guarantees in life and you need to take the opportunity when it is there. We cannot lose on Sunday....it has to end.

I can see Sam in Mayo next week. Just think Mayo really want it and think if they can play to their potential will beat Dublin on Sunday. Alot of hype with Dublin I feel. Think Mayo have what it takes if they want it badly enough.
