Just saw this headline in the RTE website.

"Cavanagh: Dublin can beat Mayo playing at 80%"

    And my first thought was.

Of course they can Sean, if Mayo lie down just like you and your buddies did.

Sure we might as well not show up. Save our money and try again in 7 years when Dublin get their 10 in a row.

Last year Mickey Harte said Tyrone were a kick away from an All Ireland last year...despite losing in the quarter final. They're hoping Mayo get well beat so their defeat doesn't look so embarrassing.

Nothing wrong with talking down Mayo's chances at all.
Lots of stuff this week comparing Dublin to the great Kerry teams.
Let it continue until 3.30pm next Sunday and if some of it has seeped through to the Dublin mindset then no harm at all.

Ah I wouldn't mind that, he was doing some fawning over Dublin last night on TSG. The better Dublin are, the easier the Semi final is to take for them. It's understandable in a way, but I thought he was like a love struck teenager at times.

He had plenty of good things to say about Mayo. Headlines are there to get attention. That quote didn't fully reflect what he said. E.g He said that on his day, nobody could get close to Aidan... that's not going to make headlines though.

I don't mind the talking Mayo down, I just thought the headline was was funny based on where it was coming from.

Spot on. They were utter crap and he thinks in his head they are up with the best teams. Tyrone have gone back from last year and totally out of their depth at the semi. All he was using is "hope" .. "stay with dublin" crap. I watched that last night and to be honest, I was sorry I did.

Can't believe we are 3/1 Sunday 11:4 outright
    I can't leave that behind ......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 617 ✭✭✭franklyon

Well don't forget to cover the draw, ;)

Mayo (+3.0) 6/5 seems to be a safer bet.

What are the odds on Dublin?

Odds on Dublin are 2/5 with a draw at 9/1 if anyone is feeling lucky a 10 euro double on the Mayo men and ladies to do the double would net you 130 euro :P

AOS seems to have gone very quiet on the Insta. Great sign for Mayo.

I had Mayo backed to beat Kerry and all lobbed on Mayo for SAM at 11/4

A quick word from Tom Parsons ;)
With seven games in an eight-week period, Parsons has likened their qualifiers and All-Ireland series campaign to a second league and that has helped in their preparations.

Great insight in Tom. Smashing player and shows his dedication. I look back now and wonder why Horan dropped him but maybe it has made him the player he is now. My brother met his mother up in Croker last year and she said he was waiting for the day to get back in and show what he is made of.

He's just trying to justify Tyrone terrible performance and lack of change from the line

Saying Dublin in second gear are just too good for everyone is easier than admitting that Tyrone got it wrong, approached the match in the wrong way and got completely spooked once the tide turned against them. Their inability to claw their way back into games was shown up badly against Dublin.
Now maybe Mayo will get it wrong too or maybe Dublin will genuinely just have too much on the day, but I can't take Sean Cavanagh's assessment that seriously off the back of what he must know was a very disappointing performance from his side.

With all the Dublin talk by Tomas O Se, Sean Cavanagh etc here's something that will make us feel positive again.

Eamonn Sweeney's entertaining piece in the Independent today.

He's a schizophrenic as*hole, he has slated the players and managers too many times for us to have one bit of respect.

Exactly, Tyrone have been an easy championship draw for Dublin since 2010.

Back then their isolated forwards struggled to kick points under pressure. MH even said as much in the after match interview in 2010 when trying to explain the wide count.

    In that regard nothing changed.

The gap between Dublin and Mayo has little to do with Tyrone and their style of play.

These same guys have been getting it wrong about Mayo all year, anyone who's watched Mayo's form over the past couple of years know that they are a September team, as is proven not just talk about being at their best in September, but literally at their best now.

No, its not. It will be down Main St. outside Vaughan's Shoes.
