I feel exactly the same, got home last night after 3 weeks in Spain, it's like someone left the air con on for the entire country. It's like being in the middle of a hurricane here I walked 100m to the shops and got soaked, 2 mins later the sun was out. The gaf is freezing but I don't want to be turning on the heat in feckin' September.

    A hurricane is 100x worse.

225 rainy days isn't the average for all of Ireland though, in fact its a high outlier on the west coasts. If we balance by population, the East coasts average of about 150 rainy days is no worse than a significant number of American cities, and there are more than a handful of US cities which are even rainier.

Truth is, people love to compare Ireland to their holiday destinations in terms of weather, which makes so little sense.

It is but that's not what I was talking about. I was referring to our daily rainfalls. Our highest daily rainfalls are laughable compared to many many other countries, even the UK.

It doesn't matter how heavy it's coming down it still seems to be pissing rain all the time and you can't plan on doing anything outside ever because of it

Dark and bleak here on the Mayo coast

    Move then!

Jaysus Christ you'd swear this was a new thing, Ireland weather has always been the same, this incessant moaning by users on here is more depressing than the weather itself!

I generally don't compare our weather to southern Europe, I just wasn't in the mood of facing the gloomy drizzle first thing this morning!. However I often compare ourselves to our very close neighbors, particularly during summer and winter.

I am hard to please with Weather, even the past 2 weeks I spent near Malaga, the weather there was something of a disappointment for late August/early September. Over the 16 days we only had 2 days that reached 30C+ and only 5 days of unbroken sunshine. There was plenty of cloud, often sun didn't appear till the late afternoon.

The most sun I saw this year was the fine spell in May here this year and the 29C we had here in Dunshaughlin in June was up there with the hottest days we had in Malaga over past 2 weeks!

I can't move, my job is here etc. Even when away for 3 weeks upon returning you realise just how awful the weather is. I like moaning about it and I shall continue to do so as long as I live here.

I guess I'm just incredibly lucky then because it's a rare occasion where the weather ruins my day out.

It's almost as mad as the moaning here when we don't get snow in winter.

    Move then too....

I never moan when we don't get snow, I think it's incredible too to see moaning.

It's our climate, has been and always will be for our lifetime.

Honestly, you know it won't come, you know that the weather is going to be ****e the majority of the year, and for some reason people expect it not to be.

Moaning is fine to a degree, yes the weather is bad here , but by living in Ireland this is what youve signed up to. We've free movement with the EU, it's not very hard to go somewhere if it really bothers you that much.

Personally, I missed the only heatwave we had this year as I was in Lanzarote. Haven't lost a wink of sleep though.

It is hard given most of us have families and roots and jobs here etc. Most of us are stuck on this rainy rock for the rest of our lives and the sh*tty weather is constantly in your face and a constant annoyance! Therefore we will continue to give out about it, it's very hard not to.

Problem might be that we are usually much, much closer to getting snow than we ever are to getting Mediterranean weather, so it's much more of a tease!

Still continuing to love this September. Liking the cool days and whilst the statistics show sunshine has been below average for me, I feel like I've had my fair share of wet and sunny spells.

There's a limit, constant incessant moaning is borderline psychotic, moan but seriously it's not healthy to be doing it the amount you see on here. I'd wager that few would listen to alot of yer moaning in person, hence the amount we see here.

Yes exactly the internet is a great place to vent instead of annoying people in real life

It's the hyperbole like this that does my head in! I've been unemployed for nearly a year now as I'm a full time dad to a (now) toddler, and I've been able to spend nearly every day of that year outside with my child, with very few days of oppressive rain or bad weather. Any days where it is going to rain are usually forecast at least 24 hours in advance, if not more. Point is: there are lots of people living in Ireland who are perfectly fine with the climate, and aren't depressed or oppressed by it. That's not to say people in that group don't hope for nicer spells, or whatever, but that we don't find Irish weather disrupts our lives in any way.

How about we made a thread dedicated to moaning? The more I think about it, the more I think it would be a good idea.

    What do you think mods?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,047 ✭✭✭Clonmel1000

Seriously anyone telling people to 'move so' is being a little ott given the context of what we're discussing here. Most of us don't have those choices.

It wouldn't feel as good to moan if it wasn't annoying people like you!

For me anyway the thing I like about good weather is just being able to sit on a beach or in a park for the day. Even when I lived in London there were so many days I could bring a towel to the park and sit there reading a book for the day. Here it's very rare that you could do that and that's my main beef with the weather, and after 37 years here it's still as frustrating as ever. I still enjoy living here and have a good life mind!

It is an option though Clonmel, if the weather is bothering you short of the point of severe depression (which is the way you've been coming across the past few years) of course it's an option.

Heavy squally shower passing through here in Kildare, while it's lead me to cancel my plans for this afternoon, its refreshing to see some actual weather again for the first time in months

You see the problem is, for such a small island, we have large variations in our weather.
Here in the West it has rained nearly every day since the beginning of August. I can't get outside to do some of the work I want. The ground is so wet. It's depressing.

As for telling people to move? Deary me. Someone has anger issues. Here's a cheaper and less stressful solution to YOUR problem. Don't read their posts.

BTW. More rain today but we have a change. It's windy as well. Wonderful.

I also live in the West, and it's not been like that at all. I've had to do many things outside, I've taken many walks, even went swimming in warm weather, since the start of august. It's a matter of perspective really.

Also, anger issues? Really? What suggests that at all?You can't just say things because you think it sounds like it fits in, maybe fit the content with the context?
