As all the Fibre cables and splice boxes are all rolled in my exchange area of Inch St. Lawernce Limerick in the last couple of weeks according to Eir.ie it will be sometime between October and December 17 before ftth will be available to my Eircode. I was hoping to be connected before the end of this month.

Will it allow you order online with eircode ?

    Hey,

Please read the following thread before jumping into bed with Eir.

I'd be fairly wary about the installation if I were you, see my post above. I'm in Donegal as well and we were told about problems on the pole after our installation was already completed. I'm also marked as live on the map as of the most recent update.

Obviously you're not necessarily going to have the same problems with it, but maybe worth keeping in mind.

Installation done, on 2.4ghz wired i get about 100mb but on wireless it's 30mb (less than 10 feet from modem)

any idea how to get it higher? what is the bandwidth control, should i turn that off?

I think so or express my interest. I was using an iPad to fill in the form and when I press enter I get an error regarding did not complete Capchta. There was no captcha on the form screen. I will have to try again on a PC.

I am hoping to stay with Eir in spite of the so call problems with the Eir 2000 router for the purpose of getting their sports channels for free. I am hoping to employ my existing gigabit router in the revamped network probably as a secondary router for wifi connections.

    Be careful.

eir Fibre packages with unlimited usage are subject to a Fair Usage policy of 1TB per month. Usage is excess of 1TB will be charged at €2.50(inc. VAT) for every 10 GB up to
    maximum of €100(Inc.VAT) per month.

If you believe anything Eir tells you then you should not be left out on your own.

Not sure why you quoted my post to say that, but to reply to you: everybody has bad experiences with companies - you are one of those people. 99% of what you'll see published is customers complaining, and eir is no different. You'll rarely see the customers compliment good service, of which I'm sure there are many. When eir's FTTH service comes along, I'll be signing up in a heartbeat (unless other operators are providing the same service at the time).

Ordered FTTH today. Checked the phone line that goes from ETU to the pole via underground duct. Looks like it's not free so not too optimistic they'll get the fibre through this. And then if they do the ETU is on the external wall of the fireplace. So if the get the fibre to the ETU not sure how they'll get it in the house. Hope the weather's good that day and I'll get some decent sausages in....

I am well aware of Eir's FUP issue as I been following this thread for almost a year and it has been well discussed. Is there any ISP on FTTH that don't have FUP issues?

Westnet is the only OE-FTTH retailer without a FUP at the minute as far as I know.

Is Wesnet countrywide or does it only operates in mainly Co. Mayo only?

So I live in Limerick so I don't have any access to any ISP on ftth that don't have FUP issues. Presuming Eir's FUP policy is 1Tb per month do any other ISPs have a more generous allowance?

My ETU was outside a room that I didn't want the connection terminated in. The installers brought the cable into the ETU through the duct but back out again and ran it along the outside wall to the room next door where I did want the termination. Would that be an option for you ?

Yeah that's what I was thinking they will probably do. Just a but less tidy and more exposed but won't be too bad. Thanks for the info.

Pole replacement underway (slowly) since May, at a rate of 3-4 poles per visit, 1-2 visits per fortnight. I assume they're working on other areas also.

I saw a KN truck with poles and Whiteknight Cabling van (with lift) in my area today getting ready to replace poles, previous to this all pole replacement has been done by open-eir. Fibre cabling and splice box installation is well advanced on 4 routes that I can see with pole replacement lagging behind. Fibre hanging on a lot of old ivy covered poles.

I've emailed Eir and they told me fibre was available to me, yet my house isn't on the rollout map despite my neighbours having it.

Customer support was useless and they kept linking me to the rollout map I already told them I was aware of.

So difficult to get a resolution to this

Applied for FFTH on 5th May. Line is right outside my house. Technician came to install a few days later, on his own, said trees were an issue. Endless phone calls later, was told forecast date was 28th Aug! Neighbour beside me applied months later, and has it installed from same Distribution Box to same pole (which is in his garden) My present overhead phone line comes from that pole, with no trees in the way. My neighbour across the road got it installed from same DP box to same pole, then across the road to a new pole which was installed on his site. I decided after endless hours of frustration that I would cancel the order altogether, and start from scratch. If only it was that easy... I'm told now that they are having issues with cancelling my order. That was weeks ago. Every time I call, I'm told I have fibre installed ( I haven't), and go through the full story. Told it is with Tier 2, but I cannot talk to them. They don't contact me. I'm told today I have a forecast date of 12th Sep. This is for an order I have tried to cancel, which the Tier 2 lot are trying to cancel, but for some reason (software I 'm sure) can't. And yet the wholesalers Openeir are treating the order as live. And Eir do not give a f u c k about any of this, and don't even have the courtesy to email me and let me know what is going on.
Any advice? (don't dare mention Comreg!) Apologies for rant...

Has the ASAI already investigated this and just basically told Eir to 'stop that, don't do it again' ?

I saw knn on the trim to kiltale road doing fibre look busy had two big holes dig outside to homes pushing fibre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,775 ✭✭✭niallb

Saw them too. All excited in the car!
Pretty sure they're just running the underground fiber rather than opening holes for the sake of individual homes just yet.

You are absolutely right. For Eir to claim "Absolutely no usage limits" when they have a metered, paid usage limit is disgusting. It pushes the boundaries yet again. What will be next?
