I see some familiar faces in the crowd, some welcome, some not so welcome.

I think it's great the fans stay in their seats, it really does give the Players a chance to enjoy it and go around the pitch with their family, kids, wives, dad's etc

It may be safer which is obviously the main benefit of it but it lacks the insanity and passion of the pitch invasion days, very sedate way to end the year in my opinion.

Plus it looks fairly miserable to have the stewards holding up the blue netting in front of the fans.

You can't beat a good strong western accent like Burkes in celebratory mood!

Well able to speak as well!

Agree. Seeing Joe Canning having a few moments with his small nephews before going over to his parents was a lovely sight.

Put on your glad rags, head to Coppers, Wexford Street or Galway city tonight and you will get a fair level of insanity and passion!!

Have to say that, apart from one or two minor mistakes, the referee contributed to a very enjoyable game.

Only fault he had was his throw ins were absolutely ridiculous. For one he threw the ball in the air akin to Gaelic Football and it led to a soft Galway point.

Fergal had a fine performance even if I am a bit biased :)

It's just not the same when the crowd aren't on the pitch.

    Bullsh1t from the GAA!
It may be safer which is obviously the main benefit of it but it lacks the insanity and passion of the pitch invasion days, very sedate way to end the year in my opinion.

Let me point out that this was not a GAA decision on its own - it is very much acting on the advice of the Gardai. It is health and safety and then there is a huge egress issue to contend with as well, it is not just about fans going onto the pitch, it is getting them off afterwards. Then you have supporter and player safety to think about.

Personally, I think its much better for the players that supporters are kept off the pitch - these lads are working since this time last year away from the public eye to get to this point and deserve the chance to celebrate together, and for the losing team not to get trampled upon trying to come to terms with such a loss. It meant that players could celebrate or commiserate with each other easily. Might not be the "passionate" way of doing it, but it is better for the players - insanity and passion can come out in the homecoming celebration

Greatest of time for Derek even if I don't agree with the sweeper system. Such a decent and intelligent gentleman.

Not surprised - he has put his life on hold by taking a leave of absence from his teaching job.

Not sure about the comments from Babs Keating this morning saying in a newspaper piece that McGrath should resign if Waterford lost.
