Galway deserved it yesterday, no question about that.

I think the love in with Joe Canning is very over the top though. Particularly with the media. Barron was the standout player in the Championship and deserves to be rewarded for it. Canning wouldn't even be nominated if Galway were beaten yesterday and there were better players on the pitch yesterday too. Barron deserves it as he has been the best player all year, but whether he'll get it remains to be seen.

As a Galway man, Barron should get it.

Canning is a class act but had very little influence in first 55 mins of the semi-final (i believe injury has restricted his movement and fitness). Barron owned his semi-final against Cork. And they were both equally good yesterday.

It was a curios game in many ways and to tell the truth I don't think Waterford truly ever looked or perhaps believed they could win. Had they not gotten those two ridiculously soft goals, I think Galway would have won at a canter.

Not to mention two very soft frees from picking up off the ground and over-carrying, too. Why couldn't Galway do any of that against Tipp, eh? ;)

I wouldn't call Moran's goal soft at all, he ran at the defence and buried a goal from 20 yards out into the corner. If Canning got it we'd still be hearing about it.

Galway were the better team and had probably an extra gear if they needed it. I thought too many of Waterford's important players didn't turn up. It happens though and I'm disappointed for them. Supporters can give out about it and be upset for a few days but they don't have to live with it for the next few months (and longer) like the players do. In fairness to them, they're young and they'll probably be the first to admit they didn't perform but it happens. Can't begrudge Galway the win and hopefully the Waterford players will take plenty from yesterday and use it to dig a bit deeper next year. Hugely proud of all players and management for how they conducted themselves before, during and after the game. They're a credit to the county and they'll be around for a few years yet.

On a personal level, I'm devastated for Brick Walsh. What a servant he's been and if he does go, he'll be some loss. Great to see him get a standing ovation coming off yesterday - fully deserved.

Thought myself the keeper was very poor for it, made no effort and had his angles all wrong. Good finish though and a great lay off from Brick.

The Sunday Game team of the year:

    1. Anthony Nash (Cork)

O'Keefe was by far the best keeper this year. Not sure where they got that from

Wouldn't say any keeper was ''by far the best'' it was very close, before yesterday probably neck and neck between 3 but Callinan had an off day after been very good in the semi. Both Nash and SOK had excellent years, either would be more than deserving to be honest.

The keeper was left completely exposed with the defenders way too far out the field.

That's true but once that had happened he need to be more decisive, it was like he was caught in two minds and didn't know whether to come or to narrow the angle and ended up basically doing nothing.

A great win by galway I though they would be out of sight after 4 minutes.Waterfords goals kept them in it the big pity for Waterford was Shane bennet going off injured and Maurice shanahan coming into the mix so early for them he was a spent force with 10mins to go negating any chance of him been fresh enough to run at a tired defense.
JC finally has a senior medal and 29 yrs of hurt is over.
The Waterford fans were very gracious in defeat as during the presentation and speech nearly 90% of the crowd remained.

Marty morrissey was looking for his moment in history when the final whistle went. He must have sat down with a sheet of paper and written down a list of ex players to tug at the heart strings but it was cringeworthy. He's ruined the match highlights!

I thought it was an utter crock of a commentating performance before, during and after the match. What made it worse was that all his lines were so obviously pre-scripted which just added to the monumental levels of cringe and sheer awfulness he managed to scale. I'd say some of O Muircheartaigh's most memorable lines were scripted too, but that was part of his genius, he made it seem like it was natural and effortless.

You're a little bit. Relax down, disappointment fades in time and optimism inevitably takes hold again.

I think its a good 20 years since PTH displayed any optimism :D If Waterford had have won yesterday he would be bemoaning the fact that the weather wasn't great or the tickets were too dear or some other great tragedy that had befallen him in the capital.

Not often I agree with PTH but today is the day.

The Galway team page also fell out of my program

Made one from Lester Ryan against Kilkenny and one of the Cork lads though may have been called back for a free after.

Made two absolute wonder saves against Cork the first day. Nash made a fantastic save against Waterford to be fair, did leave in 4 goals as well. Sometimes though that's not the keepers fault. I'd be inclined to agree that its a toss up between them, Nash will probably get it based on numbers.

Agreed and also as an aside give me an assured and accomplished distributor over a shot stopper any day of the week. Shot stopping ability is not the be all and end all of a modern goalkeeper.

For me Murphy of KK is the most complete keeper in the country but obviously didn't get to show it this year at the right end of the championship and as I said earlier you really couldn't complain no matter which of the two gets it.

Personally I would like to see SOK get it simply because he hasn't won one previously and also he was in past seasons always liable to a brain fart at any time but has obviously worked hard on the mental and concentration side of his game and has removed that tendancy from his game.

I wouldn't see TDB as a full back to be honest, Conor Gleeson made for the job.

Yeah a few people have said that re Gleeson.
Tadhg is able to win his own ball certainly and came out with ball after ball against the Cats but he had the benefit of a man beside him no doubt.

Thought it was one of his better performances in that he knew players names yesterday. There are some games where he's all over the place doesn't know which player is which.

I did notice that parts seem scripted though.

Nobody can beat Sean walsh for commentating on Galway hurling. Epic commentator! Seems to be very respected by the Galway players too - not often a local commentator gets mentioned in an all Ireland speech

2 of Martys gems after the National Anthem. " History, history with a capital T"
Changed John Mullanes " I loves me County" to " I loves me Country"
    He makes my skin crawl.
