    Thanks

Canada / Germany usually gets the first roll out updates, oneplus forum is my main source :pac:
Try using the OxygenUpdater app from play store - no need for vpn. You have to manually install the updates by putting phone into recovery mode but very simple to do so. I usually wipe cache also after update

Now that people have had the phone for a few weeks, is there any recommendations out there for tempered glass? Purchased one from amazon here https://www.amazon.co.uk/SLEO-OnePlus-Screen-Protector-Hardness/dp/B0719DG6PF/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1504014458&sr=8-17&keywords=oneplus+5+tempered+glass but it's quite poor, clearly rushed out.

Also have this case https://www.casefanatic.com/oneplus/case-anti-slip-matte-oneplus-5-silicone/ and it's decent enough, fits the phone well and adds that bit of cushion without being too clunky if anyone was looking.
I use the Orzly one here:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071JYR68Z/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
There's no getting away from the 'oily' effect with tempered glass. The fit is good though and lets me use the rinke fusion case here:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ringke-Protection-Absorption-Technology-Protective/dp/B073TVVPGK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504250065&sr=8-3&keywords=oneplus+5+fusion+case

My Jaybirds connect perfectly and they don't disconnect until I get quite a distance away.

To be clear, mine are fine until I put the phone into my pocket and the sound immediately begins to stutter. I thought it ridiculous at first, but it's been suggested that, at 6' 7" the signal has more 'body' to travel through for me than most which could be causing issues, and I'm starting to believe them >_<

If I leave the phone on the kitchen table I can go to the shed in the back garden, into the sitting room or upstairs to the bathroom and they stay connected.

Going upstairs might cause a break in the playback for a second or two but they don't stop. It's funny because the shed is further away than the bathroom.

Does anyone else's phone vibrate randomly?

An odd one but perhaps it's detecting some sort of pressure on the finger print scanner? I notice it when I have it in my pockets sometimes.

yeah this happens me the odd time and pretty sure that's what it is

    Just on the bluetooth thing.

I mentioned a good few pages back that mine was a little ropey in the car. I had a nexus 5x before this, connected to the cars bluetooth fine and jumped through songs quickly, and there was no stutter.

With this phone it pauses for a moment when changing song, and stutters a lot more often.

Really the only downside I can callout with this phone. Hopefully it gets better with updates.

not that at all. its like there is something running in background or it can just happen while doing nothing at all

    Lads a quick question.

If it's between this and Moto G5S Plus, which would you prefer. I have someone coming from India and the price of G5S is half of One+.
    would I be losing much

    € 440 v € 220.
    6 GB v 4GB
    835 v 635

    Thanks

If you have the money then go for OP5 but I did very nearly go for a G5 Plus earlier this year. I'd say that the OP5 is slimmer, lighter, faster with a better camera but the Moto should be good enough for almost everything apart from AAA 3D gaming

Is anyone having issues with connection? I love this phone, but I can barely get 4G (3 network, Limerick city).

Whenever I mess around with any settings, it'll pick up 4G but it only lasts for minutes, goes to H+ and never reconnects to 4G. Until I change a setting, and the circle starts again. Currently I'm set to :

    LTE/WMCDA auto
    2G/3G/4G (automatic)

Also, when I choose the network operator manually and pick 4G, whenever I go back in there, it says I'm connected to 3G...

This is my first post, so apologise if I'm in the wrong place, but any help would be much appreciated.

No issues with Meteor in Cork. Perhaps try manually setting up another APN for data? Confirm from 3 website or customer care that you have all the correct settings (occasionally APNs change internally and some APNs get better service than others although this shouldn't affect your actual network signal but rather the quality of the data throughput).

I have network set to 2G/3G/4G auto and the Bearer with my access point is set to "Unspecified" (rather than LTE specifically).

I had a Three SIM before and found network coverage at home to be abysmal if I was inside but outside I could pick up 3G. See if the quality of your connection varies depending on where you are - if yes then it's down to network and not the phone.

Might be advisable to factory reset and start again if problems persist.

That is interesting, I've just realised I never get 4g, just H+ too, and I'm in Dublin city centre, also with three.ie.

For some reason I thought H+ was pretty much the same as 4g, which is clearly wrong. I must investigate this further. Will have to try out my OPO to see if it is the same.

Update: I got mine to connect to 4g by setting the server to http://mobile.3ireland.ie/bb/HutchKey/

I had to disable and enable data and it took a few minutes to connect but it's stayed connected to 4g. Again, this is in Dublin city centre. I've read that the phone will connect to the mast with the strongest signal, so it may connect to 3g even if 4g is available because the 3g signal is stronger.

I'm also in Limerick and always have full 4G+ reception on my OP5.

Perhaps you could try Benzino's server suggestion, previous, to see if that helps.

Whenever I do drop to H+ inside a building or something, the 4G will come back as soon as I leave the place.

My OP1 used to give me the trouble of not reconnecting to 4G, but the 5 is fine (for me).

Thanks Benzino, that, (and changing the settings in testing to LTE/UMTS) seems to have done the trick for now at least. Hasn't dropped 4G for 30 mins will see if it reconnects when it does.

Nope. I have used them many times, most EU phones are shipped from Germany. just make sure 'EU shipping' is there at checkout.

"EU Expedited Shipping (8 - 12 days Europe)
We can ship phones by Europe Expedited shipping: this special expedited shipping with tracking number, the shipping option is depending on your location, we recommend this shipping option for Europe buyers, it's a smooth shipping process."

Bit late getting back to this but I can't find any EU Shipping option, just Post Registered Air Mail, and DHL /TNT Express for $30 more.

Is the Oneplus 5 worth €500?

Seriously considering buying one as my LG G3 won't charge anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭pandabat

The express shipping is the one that is meant, I believe. Adds to the cost but have the phone in days rather than week to 2 weeks.

OnePlus 5 is a good, fast phone. Might get a good deal on an LG G6 now and the Nokia 8 should also be a good phone but I don't know if you can really buy it around these parts yet. Honor 8 Pro /Honor 9 maybe also worth considering around this price bracket. It'll come down to personal preferences though I don't think that one could be disappointed with the OP5

Decided to go for 128G, my OP2 battery needs replacing. Has anyone bought a replacement battery?

Is anyone experiencing any difficulty with notifications? I'm new to Android coming from many years with iPhones. Loving the OnePlus 5 so far except for the fact that I'm not receiving my Gmail notifications unless I manually refresh from within the app. Same issue with Facebook & Twitter but I'm not bothered about those. Thankfully WhatsApp is grand.
I've Gmail sync turned on, all notifications on, battery not optimized for Gmail etc. but no joy.
    Any ideas appreciated

For anyone interested, I eventually managed to resolve the Gmail notification issue above by performing a factory reset.

Are they still hipping with the front panel incorrectly mounted or is that issue no longer ?

Do you mean mounting the screen upside down?

They're not going to change that asfaik.

Hmmm, I might give it miss then.

I can notice it if I look for it but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Perfectly happy, amazing phone, and I've had plenty of Android flagships, this is the one I've been most happiest with

Same here, see "jello effect" every so often when changing direction of scrolling through some feeds but it really doesn't bother me. I can see how it might bother some people who are particularly sensitive to it but the whole furore about it is probably 5% people who are actually bothered by it and 95% people who are merely bothered by the fact that there's a facet of the phone that they just bought that people can criticise, i.e. that their phone isn't perfect. For sure, the issue is there with some phones but it's minor and the phone has many other positives. Personally, I am very happy with it and would perhaps only consider the Nokia 8 a real rival for it (a phone that was not available when I bought the OP5). The OP5 feels great in the hand, is super fast, is good value, has a solid camera, plenty of RAM and dash charge is awesome. Downsides: no micro SD slot and some smartphone cameras are just a little bit better (but OP5 one not bad by any means).

Just ordered one using the 10% student discount, have a cousin studying in Europe who set up an account for me.

When i tried to order to Ireland the discount disappeared but since Ireland is not eligible for the discount and the UK is, you can use Parcel Motel, Address Pal or Parcel Wizard, and the discount will pop back up.

Came to €443 using Revolut. :)

I don't think its quite worth €500 since the OnePlus 3 was much cheaper but happy to get it at that price.

Also ordered this Spigen Armor case for £9.99 with free shipping to the UK:

    https://www.spigen.com/products/oneplus-5-case-rugged-armor#review

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OnePlus-5-Case-SPIGEN-Rugged-Armor-Series-Case-Black-/172833696455?hash=item283db0eac7:g:KvEAAOSw1T5ZnYfS

Their UK ebay store is genuine as its mentioned on the website.
