It's a curved screen tv... that's the reason for the clearance, I reckon.

Manufacturers are dropping curved screens because they are awful.

Shame though, because it is a cracking deal.

It's got nothing to do with the curve. It's an end of season set. All the 6 models are reduced.

Maybe but certainly curved TV's haven't taken off like manufacturers maybe wanted. I would be surprised if they don't become a thing of the past. I certainly wouldn't buy one.

    Why?

Do I really have to list all of the negatives? They have not sold for a reason. If you want you can google many of those reasons. They are a complete gimmick with loads of marketing BS behind them. Pity the reality doesn't translate or word of mouth would have gradually seen an increase in sales instead of which they are dying a death.

I'd actually like you to list the negatives of the OLES65C6V if you wouldn't mind.

Just negatives of the set. Not interested in marketing BS or gimmicky stuff.

BTW, it's not the curve that stopped it being sold. It's a 65", premium level, originally €4000 tv. Not because of "marketing BS".

Just google curved TV's and reddit. You will find numerous threads of user experiences with them from people just looking for opinions on them. Almost all of the them are negative to no real benefit. The best people seem to be able to say about them is that if you are sitting at the perfect angle you almost forget about the curve. I judge these things generally on what actual people who use them on a day to day basis think and it is generally negative from what I have read.

Why don't you google the issues with curved screen tv's. Curved is BS marketing rubbish that introduces loads of image issues.
Samsung have started to drop the design already, LG won't be far behind.

Well lads, ye can read all the stuff on Google ye want.

I have the set in my living room, and have no issues with it whatsoever. I wasn't taken in by marketing bs, or it being a gimmick. I was taken in by professional reviews, the picture quality, and the ridiculously low price.

Maybe I'm just lucky and got the only curved set in the known universe without issues?

Or maybe it's the fact that people with problems post reviews? I've no issues, but I'm not gonna post some user review somewhere declaring that.

It's all moot anyway. The set is a bargain.

I won't care much curved or not for this kind of a price, you get 65" for price of 55", not very often we see such reduction :)

Darn boards , had no idea I needed a new tv but somehow ended up with one of these.

Salesman told me there was someone outside the shop at opening this morning waiting for one :D. He even knew about the boards thread.

Thanks Soarer, looks a great deal !

    Good stuff Barr.

The lads I dealt with were sound. Got a good laugh off the €710 refund they had to give me!

It's actually shocking just how much you've missed absolutely everyone's point.

The issues aren't to do with the build quality of this model, the issues people are talking about with regards to curved screens are things like the curve killing viewing angles except when almost dead on, or being impossible to wallmount without looking hilariously naff.

In your rush to defend your purchase decision, you didn't bother to actually read anyone's post properly, nor do a quick google as people suggested.

This is absolutely a bargain at this price, what people are suggesting is that the reason it is this price is because curved screens did not take off.

And you obviously missed the whole point that ALL 2016 sets are reduced to clear, not just the curved ones. Wonder why the other ones didn't sell?

Also, I don't have to defend my purchase to anybody. It speaks for itself. As will be backed up by everyone that managed to get one.

So is this expired? How many were actually available in the end and where?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,014 ✭✭✭Soarer

There was still at least the display model in Mahon Point at around 3pm today.

Which has nothing to do with you misunderstanding everyone's comments about curved TVs in general, rather than this specific TV model being a failure of some kind. As I said, you seem to be so defensive that you aren't bothering to read posts.

Look it may be a great deal, and in some people's minds even a bargain. But the notion of spending over €1600 on a TV is literally ****ing insane. Great for you if you can afford that but jesus christ....

I spent €1600 on a Panasonic 50 inch 720p plasma 10 years ago. Still a great tv, this is miles better. Great bargain, if only I had the space!

I am drooling at the though of owning such a TV. Amazed they can now be had at 65" at such a price. My first experience of an OLED screen was a Microsoft Zune HD media player released in 2009. I think it was the first portable device to have one. Screen size 3.3" at 720p resolution. Even at that tiny size I though it was amazing. It had games with predominately black backgrounds to show off it's capability that I would sometimes play in a pitch black room just to increase the stunning effect. When I saw how much the first OLED TV's cost I put the thought out of my mind for years but I think it's time to start saving. No beer for 6 months and get slim into the bargain : )

You keep going on about curved TVs in general.

I'm not talking about curved TVs in general. I'm talking about the OLED65C6V specifically.
This set has a very shallow curve. So much so that I don't notice it when watching it.
I've it sitting in the corner of the room, so wall mounting it isn't an issue.
The 3D on it (another gimmick that's still being used regularly in the Soarer household) is spectacular.
    The sound quality is excellent.
    The picture quality is outstanding.

That's all real world experience. If you want to keep talking in generalities, you might take it to one of the other threads on Boards. This is a Bargain Alert that's being derailed by people looking to poo-poo things.

This set is selling through RicherSounds for £2599.
    We got it for €1610.
    This set is a bargain.

    We'll leave it at that.

I think it's down to around €1400 including discount.

    Not 100%. Going by memory.

Not the same thing, OLED is far superior. ULED is just a marketing term to confuse potential buyers. QLED and ULED are just LED backlit LCD TVs.

No, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Phillips, Loewe all offer OLEDs, albeit they're all using LG panels.

LG 55b6v was on sale €1699 down to €1189 not sure if there are many left. Got the last one in Galway. The 65b6v was sold about 2 minutes before but it was €1900, 300 more than the curved version. Delighted with it, though spent most of yesterday getting the picture set up. Tried some Netflix UHD feeds and it looked great.

Nothing left in the Dublin area, as is to be expected :p

It looks like my theory was right about the reason for the massive price drop of this set being down to the curved screen,
    https://qz.com/878798/should-you-buy-a-curved-or-3d-tv-nope-the-revolution-is-already-dead/

It's a great bargain, but it's still €1600 for a flawed design concept that has been dropped already.

Anyone that was in the market for an OLED at the time of this offer would have been crazy to avoid it because of the curve. The curve on this set is minimal especially when compared to Samsung etc. I would not have considered any curved set but this one is barely curved.
