Watched it too. Fan fooking tastic. Started to forget it was an actual documentary and not a film.

That actually sort of messed up half the movie for me Jay.... I watched this movie a couple of years ago about a guy who went missing. Compelling stuff. Followed along as they tried to track him down. People dying during filming of it and everything. And I deliberately didn't google it during the movie so as not to spoil it. Then I did google it and found out that it was a mockumentary... Boy, if I didn't feel like a right tool that day...

And when he was sooooo quickly able to get this Russian guy, who he did not know from Adam, to supply him with advice on doping..... I thought .. ah here. fool me once etc... I thought it was a mockumentary as well....

But the movie can be only described as a trip. You get carried along with the whole thing, amazing.

You forced me to go and Google what it was to make sure!! :)

    i.e. Mock or Doc

But you see it was that sort of thing that had me convinced that it COULDN'T be real. The fact that he was on board so quickly with helping him to dope... And shur the FSB must surely have been monitoring all of his conversations, given the position that he was in. It seemed awful far fetched, which is why I had trouble believing it.... but apparently all true.

Come on, Jay, you know you want to have a rant about it.. Lets have it.

I'm gonna guess that it has something to do with Mo Farah? :)

Well yes, I do love a good rant. Don't want to totally ruin it on everybody so early in the day but it DOES include equality between the sexes, doping, Mo Farah AND Cliona Foley.

Well there's enough in that for me to construct about a ten page rant of my own. I'll download it now, just to annoy myself.

Just downloaded it, usually highlight of my week then seen Cliona Foley, uggghhh don't know if I'll bother. Does she take over or let others speak?

They all speak. Maybe they had a word with her. I hope you like the topic of doping though. The conversation can't but gravitate back to it every time.

Listened to it while I was cutting the hedge. The show was about the women's world cup, Mo Farah, Usain Bolt, Paul Kimmage interview with Dan Martin... Nothing terribly annoying this week, except for the usual interrupting and finishing of sentences by Cliona Foley.

It was the discussion about David Corkery's article that got to me though. Joe said that Corkery is perfectly entitled to his opinion and that a "big social media storm" had been created out of it which was undeserved. Kind of ironic, since it was his own Breakfast Show colleague Ciara Kelly who was leading the charge on this. It was Newstalk who helped make a big social media storm out of the article with Kelly devoting most of the first hour of the breakfast show to berating Corkery as basically being a caveman.

People were up in arms this week about Corkery saying that the level of the women's game was just not up to scratch, with far too many basic errors. But I heard somebody on the show last week saying that Lindsay Peat had been only playing for her club for three weeks before she was at The Stoop, on the bench for Ireland v England. Three weeks and she's an international! Surely it should be expected that the women put in the same 10,000 hours that the men put in to the game before they are given the same level of respect and the same level of media coverage? Well, if not 10,000 hours, at least more than 10 anyway.

Brendan Fanning in todays independents aid there are only 4,300 women playing rugby in Ireland which is an extremely low number. In comparison 170,000 women are affiliated to the Ladies Gaelic Football Association.

A girl I know started playing rugby when she was 23 having never even held a rugby ball before and within 18 months to 2 years she was on the Munster ladies panel. Niamh Briggs I believe played Gaelic Football all her life and only started playing rugby in her 20's and she's Ireland's captain.

Truthfully its not a great sport in comparison to the men's sport because rugby is a power sport and obviously women are going to be lacking massively in that area compared to men. Other womens sports like athletics, swimming, tennis, golf, gaelic games are much closer to the quality of the male equivalent are are better sports because of it.

Also considering the issues surrounding the mens game and concussion and long terms effects of playing a collision sport I'm not sure I'd want my daughter (if I had one) playing in a relatively violent sport like rugby when there are so many other safe sports on offer for girls to play. Womens bodies would not stand up as well as mens bodies to issue with concussion and I believe there is extensive evidence of this in womens soccer in the USA so I could imagine in rugby it could potentially be even worse a situation.

My biggest worry when I watch women's rugby (and I'll admit, I thought the Ireland V Australia game was superb) is that they don't seem to have been coached in either tackling or taking impact, there were some tackles that looked so dangerous and ferocious and lacked any control I'm surprised there wasn't any injury, even the more fundamental aspects of the game like place kicking and passing the ball look like a lower amateur level. It'll only improve when proper coaching structures are put in place, the ladies team need better funding, access to facilities, nutrition plans etc.

On the other side, I was watching a lot of the women's Euros in football and the level was fairly impressive. You could tell how much of a difference it made that a lot of these players were playing in a proper professional setup.

Regarding 170,000 female GAA players..do you mean 17,000?

I admire and respect the women who play but women's rugby is garbage in terms of standard and not fun to watch for me. They are more suited to the 7s game which I think is why the English have discontinued women's pro 15s to pump the money into the 7s Olympic team. Watch the Russians, Chinese and Americans imposing themselves in the future.

The soapbox is getting great use again tonight.

Tonight's crusade is the confederate flag. Joe ranting away.

One of them said it's like if Kildare fans started wearing kkk style white sheets.

Lol, I knew someone would immediately be typing with indignation when they started discussing the confederate flag.

They're right, how dumb do you need to be to wave it around, particularly after the weekend?

Not dumb, just ignorant, or not privy to US current affairs. He weasles out a socio-political angle every night does Joe, doesn't he? Can't you just talk about sport Joe? I'll listen to you talk about as much doping as you like as long as you leave issues like this alone!

It's in every newspaper, it is sport related - so why not?

The OTB echo chamber v the OTB thread echo chamber.

All I think of is this:

They even have General Lee jumps in car shows down south (Not Cork - Tennessee)

And even further north - (Detroit - not Tyrone)

In fact Bubba Watson brought the 'General Lee' Car:

Does this mean that Joe is now anti-Bubba in his Golf Podcast? :D

    No.....

Fear not golf podcast fans....Bubba painted over the Confederate flag on the 'General Lee':

Bubba will be delighted he is still in Joe's good books:

Such absolute horsesh1t from Joe again. Putting his own meaning on the flag so that he can get offended again. Surrounded by all his yes men "Oh well said Joe, well said". A bunch of clowns.

    Exactly.

Media members don't have real jobs like their audience and think that something they care about because they have much more time to think about it , is something we all should care about when often that isn't the case.

It's terrible what happened at the weekend in america and it shocked me when I read about it but I moved on after reading about it because it has basically zero affect on people in Ireland particularly seeing as we don't have any race problems or large groups of neo nazi nut jobs like they have over there.I doubt the Cork fellas with the confederate flag have even the slightest intention of causing any offence.

Yeah there was no in depth discussion about the flag it was 'confederate flag' = racist.

When the fact is some American's who are not racist view it as a part of thier culture and heritage.

The blindly assume that all with the confederate flag are neo-nazi bigots.

Also Cork people call the flag the Rebel flag.

I doubt many of the average Cork GAA fans even know it is called the Confederate Flag (which is technically incorrect in any case)

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I am starting to think that if a skit/parody of the show was created one Sunday based on news events.

The real Off The Ball show would not be far from script at all on the Monday.

I am surprised the likes Mario Rostenstock has not latched on to them they are the gift that keep on giving material wise.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
