Had KN out yesterday for a FTTH install, can't do an overhead install, never had the house wired for a phone,so he said I have to run a duct from the house up the driveway to the road, now I'm no diy expert, does anyone know how you would do that and what materials do you need??Just my luck FTTH is on my doorstep and I can't get it!

I'm the exact same - have asked on here did anyone have any idea of how expensive it would be but no joy. One of the engineers that called suggested it would probably cost about €800 so i'll be sticking to the broadband I have at the moment i'm afraid.

Good for you. It's encouraging to see progress. If they 'knock' enough premises down they might get to me before end of century.☺

Ordered online last night, even though i know i am not live.

€40pm for the first 6 and then €70 for the remaining 6.

    150mb and anytime calls.

Im currently paying around €120 every 2 months for <5mb and evening calls, so its a cheaper package.

Let the games begin ! :pac:

Anyone ordering with phone line before the FTTH is live is mad, IMO. You will be held to the other services and billed accordingly.

If you want to test the waters, order BB only. That way, when it fails, you won't have had your phone service moved (though I guess it's a moot point if you are already with Eir).

Hire a ditch-witch - find a farmer with a trench digging attachment for their tractor? Then https://www.farmersjournal.ie/shop/product/1-1-2-normal-gauge-polythene-piping-150m-roll/499/7023

Really? How do you know this?

I never answered this, sorry. My work brings me into contact with SIRO people, and one of them mentioned in passing that overhead drops to single-story hip-roofed houses were a problem because of height restrictions, so they're looking into the possibility of a raised overhead drop.

Whatever solution they come up with will have to be generic enough to be usable for any such installation, so that it can become in effect just another type of standard installation. As such, it may take a wee while to arrive at an approach that they're happy to roll out widely.

Ok, thanks for that. Good to know that at least something is being considered. Hopefully it'll mean I'll be able to get it at some point in the near future. I know pretty much all the houses on my side of my street would be in the same position and I'm sure there's plenty of other houses the same.

Yep, was wondering the same myself.
I checked about an hour ago, and even though the 14/08 was still showing as next update, the map took ages to load, and I thought it was rendering new info, it still showed the older view once I zoomed into my area...

Another missed deadline. Not really surprising.

Nope not surprised - they have to be way behind on where they're supposed to be otherwise they'd be tweeting about it and telling all the newspapers.

things looked like they were being ramped up a few gears around February/March/April but since then all I'm hearing is bad news:

    - lots of premises passing without any service available as areas still in development or missing splice boxes or errors.

    - frequency of rollout map updates has slowed down alot.

    - the news that part of the rollout would be FTTC in select areas as well as FTTH, so not 100% FTTH anymore.

    - some areas left unfinished with missing splice boxes.

    - more slipping dates.

    - promotion/news gone completely quiet.

having said that Siro don't seem to be making much fast progress either.

To be fair Eir are very busy for the next month. They are busy fooling farmers and RTE with their flimsy fibre to the press release nonsense.

"We'll deliver probably in excess of 5km of fibre in approximately 400 acres, so that's going to deliver a high speed broadband network - you're going to have WiFi hotspots for visitors, you're going to have visitors being able to access speeds of up to 1,000Mbits, so it will enhance their experience."

    Depressing.

updated at last. Still places saying fibre is available but no amount of premises listed.

I find it easier to just look at the old map on http://www.openeir.ie/Our_Network/

which is also updated with same numbers, it is much quicker to get around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,682 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

Doesn't look updated from what I can see, still says update on the 14th & no changes to the situation on my road which has very clearly changed in the real world

My local exchange Caragh Lake (part of the 300,000) seems to have been updated ..now says "60 premises in this exchange can now access up to 100Mb/s fibre broadband. Estimated date for first Live FTTH Fibre Services with speeds up to 1000Mb/s is Autumn 2017"

Whereas before it said "70 premises in this exchange can now access up to 100Mb/s fibre broadband. Estimated date for first Live FTTH Fibre Services with speeds up to 1000Mb/s is Autumn 2017"

So 10 premises have actually lost access to upto 100mb fibre broadband :D

There has been a little activity in the area recently where KN seem to be running some clear ducting underground between poles, and a few poles have some fibre rolled up besides it .. but apart from that ..not a lot else

Agree with you there old map is much easier to use. - Weird my exchange has gone from down to winter 2018 -> to 150 premises have 1000mbs?? WTF? No sign of any action near me and the checker still says winter 2018 for my address and number. Must look at map now to see the green houses.

    For my eircode it still says;
Great news! Your address is on open eir’s rural fibre rollout programme offering fibre speeds of between 30Mb/s and 1000Mb/s. We estimate fibre broadband will be live in your area during the second half of 2017.
...but when I contact fibrepower@openeir.ie (which I checked again) they state the go-live date for services will be March 2018.

Same folks, different answer :) I will go with the March'18 timeline

You may need to clear your cache. I had to. Happens everytime they update.
Fuptards updating that site not using timestamps to check for stale data.

Just checked the new map and there deosn't seem to be any "green" houses dotted along the exchange line that says 150 premises passed.
As ever the map update leaves me scratching my head in confusion - clear as mud.
