eir retail is lying to you, and if they don't get their act together and stop their sales people from peddling that particular lie, they're going to be staring down the barrel of an almighty bitchslap from ComReg.

Doubtful. The companies they outsource D2D sales to have always lied and its never been challenged.

Thanks for that. Any idea where I'd find out about fttc or ftth?

Fraud is "obtaining an advantage by deceiving people".
    Where does this leave Eir?

Johnny is mis sold/defrauded by one of these door to door scrotes.

    A) Johnny complains to the ASA, they do nothing
    B) Johnny complains to Eir/COMREG - contract gets cancelled
    C) Johnny sues - Never happens.

FTTH is identified by Eircode. FTTC not so much, especially if you have a non-unique address. Is there any reason you'd want FTTC if FTTH is available?

One company has offered me a fttc connection, another has told me they don't think it is available. The fttc offer is a lot cheaper, but if it's not going to work out I'd prefer not to waste my time following it up.

What decided if a fttc exists at a house? Is it distance from the cabinet? I asked one crowd and what difference was between fttc as ftth and was told or was to cabinet and one to the house! Not much help!

Add me to the list of people who were duped into believing my road's live status... :(

Quick summary: was initially given an install date 10 days ago by Eir of last Friday only to be told the next day that my area wasn't actually going live until the Wednesday and that they'd contact me then with a new install date. Got the new appointment set for tomorrow and arranged time off work to facilitate.

Only to get a phone call from KN this evening to say they won't be able to come after all because they've been informed by OpenEir that I'm not actually live

Something to do with my "slot on the exchange not being activated yet" and "KN have no way of estimating when this will get done", so they can't arrange another appointment, and I'll have to wait for Eir to do so.

How much is this costing in wasted time for OpenEir's checker to continually approve the scheduling of installs, only for a last minute cross-check to veto it? Or in lots of cases, the install attempt failing when the enigineer actually turns up to do the work? A shambolic state of affairs....

Today Tuesday 8th August.....Guess what.....just got my Eir bill....THEY HAVE CHARGED ME FOR THE FIBRE THEY COULD NOT INSTALL.

    Could you make it up??????????

A little bit off topic, but since there are a lot of people having trouble with Eir retail here, I just thought I would give a heads-up relating to the online chat support on the Eir website. For the last couple of weeks the "Email Chat Transcript" button has been "faulty" so now you can't get a record of your transcripts. They advise you that you will have to send a letter in writing to their HQ requesting a copy of the chat. I sent a letter to them 2 weeks ago and never heard back from them. When I ring them, I get the usual 20min phone calls as they pass me to the holding area of each of their departments before the line goes dead.

I just thought I would give a heads up on this as there are quite a few horror stories going around now about Eir contracting debt collectors to harrass customers who don't pay bills for services they never recieved or if they left within the cooling off period.

I usually use a screen record for every interaction I have with them in the chat. I'm not sure if this would count in any court, but at least it keeps your sanity in check.

Thanks for info. It is very important that you have chat record...I will use screen shot until further notice.

Yup, that's the sequence of events. Pole replacement, followed by fibre runs with loose coils left hanging, followed by brackets for splice boxes that the fibre is coiled around, followed by splice boxes, then live.

The timeframes seem to be completely non-deterministic. A friend of mine has had a completed splice box outside his front door for six months or more with no sign of live services.

Thanks @oscarbravo - the plot thickens, it seems!
The splice boxes have been fitted either side of my house on the left labelled as XXX006001A and one the right labelled as XXX006002A (XXX being the exchange / cabinet short code) that would seem to me like there isn't going to be a splice fitted?

Just stumbled on this board so sorry if this is repetitive. In general does anyone know if Eir is out and about starting work on what they've said they'll do. Connect 300000 homes etc independently of the proposed national scheme. Are there people out there putting fibre on poles or any activity anywhere? By now given deadlines etc I'd have thought there would be huge visibility of contractors etc but I never seem to see anything.

Yes there is definitely work being done around the country. There is debate on the number of premises passed, another update on numbers is due this Thursday. Overall it is a hugely ambitious target to meet with at least 200000 though probably more premises to be passed in 17 months.

There does not need to be a splice box fitted for each individual home if that is your concern. Each box can service a number of premises.

Signed-up in early July by Eir door to door sales. Original install date of mid-July cancelled. KN crews out all July and splice boxes fitted all along the road. Received letter in the post today stating area was now live for FTTH and to sign-up now etc etc. Called Eir - exchange is not live and won't be until early September. Reckon we'll be lucky if we see it before Christmas ...

I tried talking to Eir chat support to find out when I will be able to set a new appointment and the they could only tell me that my install scheduled for today is still showing up until 5:30, so is not marked as cancelled and they can't tell me anything else.

So in the meantime I called OpenEir back and their appointments team just said they can't do anything until Eir set me a new install date due to Eir informing them that my "Distribution Point is not active".

Does anyone know what that means? Wiring and splice boxes are in place and our road was connected up to the exchange a month ago (saw an engineer doing this).

I thought OpenEir (and subcontractors like KN) were responsible for the infrastructure? Why would they need to wait on Eir for the "Distribution Point"?

OpenEir's map should be updated at some stage tomorrow. However it is now more difficult to gauge how well the roll-out is going if premises are passing without the wiring/splicing finished in certain areas.

Thanks @Allison Puny Appetite - no, that's not my concern, it's the fact that there's a roll of cable outside my door, and a bracket for a fiber splice. The two other splices are the start of the cable above ground (about 300m to the left) and the neighbours house (about 250m to the right)

Just wondering did anyone else get left with the bracket and roll of cable outside their door?
Or are the splice boxes numbered 001, 002, 003 etc?

Do Eir run their fibre cable underground?

There's been a bit of what seems to be investigative work being done on our road a couple of weeks ago. All the manhole & old Eircom & P&T covers have been marked and did have people working on them.

Last night, at arouind 12.30am there were 2 guys taking measurements of the manhole cover outside my neighbours house. Yes, we thought it was odd that they were doing it at that time of night, but my mum couldn't resist going out and asking them what they were doing and they said that they didn't know what it was for, just that they were told to do a survey of it at that time due to the road being fairly busy during the day.

So just wondering (hoping!) that this is some of the groundwork for Eir doing their thing. I do actually have a Siro splice box on a pole practically outside my house and it is live, but I can't get it installed as we live in a single storey house and there wouldn't be enough headroom for the cable to be run. :(

I'm in Wexford town, which does seem to be on the Eir map for being enabled sometime late 2017.

Is there no way of attaching a pole to a wall or gable (similar to putting up a Satellite dish) and bring the Siro cable to that and down into the house?

I believe they're investigating a solution like that at the moment.

Hey guys, just wondering how long it takes for fibre to go live after the splice boxes go up? Had one put outside my house last Thursday, and have an order pending with eir for it
    Wondering if anyone knows

It's non-deterministic. Could be months, could be weeks.

    Apparently not.

Had 2 installers out. One just took one look and said, nope, not gonna happen and never heard anything back after promises that my case would be looked into.

Second installer did spend about 1/2 hour looking around at the possible options and promised his manager would be in the area the following week and would call in. Again, no follow up visit.

I've offered to do whatever they want me to do in terms of putting a pole or something up to enable the install, but no joy.

Did finally get a call a couple of weeks ago saying that it was a definite no. This was with Vodafone by the way.
