Probably our most important signing of the summer just been announced so lets just nit pick at each other's arguments for two two game bans. To put it into perspective you would get 3 games for delibrety elbowing a player or other violent conduct.

How have we finally, finally signed a DM, yet spent most of the last page actually indulging in this nonsense argument (that i honestly thought was a joke until I saw the follow ups) of whether or not Jones and Blind should be sacked!

Where are the Kate and Rachel gifs!??

I was late catching up with last night's game. Great to see Fellaini get a start, goal and huge backing from his manager in the midst of reports of him being sold for £10m.

Fellaini mightn't be in our regular first eleven when everyone's fit and available, but he's a player who Mourinho clearly likes and trusts and it's great to hear Jose rubbish the reports of him departing for Galatasaray.

I love the below gif, reminds me of the time last season when Fellaini scored after recently getting booed by some United fans, and Mourinho hung out of him in the goal celebrations.

Just came to mind when I saw the contract....

Financially, in terms of accounting, a player price is spread over the length of their contract (options not included, iirc). So at 35million matic is 11.6 or something like that per season.

From an accountancy perspective, we could have signed Dier at 55million on a five year contract for what would be considered the same money.

I'm not saying its that simple in reality, or we shouldn't have signed Matic, or that we could have even got Dier for 55 - but just something I found briefly interesting when looking at the (quite reasonable in todays market) 35million, and then saw it was a 3 year contract.

Don't know if you are an accountant by trade or were reading some of the same stuff as me lately :D

I got lost in a web of papers on how footballers are now assets with associated revenues, and their wages being filed as operating expenses and just basically how all that is reported. Was pretty interesting but also pretty ridiculously complicated, but I imagine it's done that way to twist figures to the public or something or there might be some form of loopholes.

Christ being in a room with yourself, a cup and watching Jones go to the Toilet.

Knowing Jones he probably took a detour and the poor tester got a shower.

35 million plus 5 million in addons is a good deal. We have very good midfield now.

Not an accountant (or numbers smart!) myself, no.

I don't think the practices are any hidden voodoo though - I think the players and costs are accounted for the same way any big business accounts for large acquisitions of fixed assets. I think everything is done to a standard so that one club can be viewed against another, and vs 'normal' companies. I would have to think clubs that are on the stock market, for example, have strict guidelines on their reporting, and that other clubs are regulated to follow that model by the governing bodies of their country.

Yep, on paper it is looking very good. There are still issues, but most clubs have issues so you have to accept that. No club is perfect.

Most of Jose's signings so far have had a big impact on the side. Mkhitaryan was patchey but improving last season. Have to imagine Matic will be a key component of the side and hope Lindelof will prove that too. Mourinho is certainly looking at buying first team players, rather than squad players.

Looking forward to seeing that midfield now.

Knowing my luck the first choice midfield will be Matic, Pogba and Fellaini though!

Came on here to make this very point, my God I'm so happy. An actual honest to goodness DM signed and i cannot wait until the new season.

In fairness, I thought Blind, especially Schneiderlin and, to a lesser extent, Schweinsteiger would help solve that midfield issue! 3 times bitten....

I think Im more surprised Jones didnt get injured whilst having the drugs test. Maybe he injured the tester

Glad to see Matic done, think he will be a good signing for United. Still think they might sign one more

By the way Mitch it's an initial 3 year contract so I'm guessing its like most of the other contracts we signed recently and we have the option of an extra year which would make it four years.

I think it's a very good deal all round the bit of transfer talks with Chelsea have got the price down for him.

I dont know though like, could you imagine usain bolt being pulled in straight after he won an olympic gold medal to do a drugs test instead of getting to do a few laps of honour there would be uproar about it.

I'm not sure of the timeline of events but players should be given time to enjoy winning a cup win.

If it happened after a reasonable amount of time mind its silly. Its silly anyways I guess but I could understand if they werent given reasonable time

I don't know about athletics but I do know about another sport with an bad rep in cycling and the stage winner goes to doping control prior to going to the podium which happens not long after, it's not actually that big a deal.

I'm a bit meh about the Matic signing, another big strong Jose signing.

Yeah, there is an option for a 4th. But from an accountancy perspective (like anyone cares!) I don't think the 4th year is used from an amortisation perspective, as it isn't contractually certain to take place. I could be wrong though.

I agree on the price, a very good one in todays market.

How many more players will be banned for the super cup, how come we can't do a Madrid/Barcelona job and ignore the rules, all this is very convenient for Madrid.

Only Phil jones could get banned without playing.

To be fair to Mourinho his signings so far have been spot on so I'm sure he knows the strengths that Matic brings to his team. Starting to look very much like a Mourinho side now. Won't be seeing Matic go past the half way line much I'd imagine

Agreed...not sure on the next signing though being a winger.

Surely not playing meant he could have pissed at the drop of a hat.
I'd be sympathetic to Blind especially if he was dehydrated, but Jones ??

Exactly. He's very good in the market and rarely picks up a dud when he's the one picking the players.

Bailly - Excellent at a very good price
Zlatan - Excellent on a free
Pogba - Excellent, starting to look like a great pricve given the market changes.
Mkhitaryan - Took a while to settle but really started to shine late last season. Good price.

Lindeloff - Worried about him in preseason but was well scouted so I'm open minded.
Lukaku - Excellent player, as close to guaranteed goals as you can get, expensive but reasonable.
Matic - Wouldn't have been my choice, but he knows him so well. Expensive enough.

From those 7 players Jose has signed, he's worked with 3 of them before so I'm confident of them being very good.

I think we have done very clever business this summer. Been a slow one but we've managed to cop great players in the positions we need. With Matic in now, the team will look very much like a Jose team.

I think Jose will be satisfied with this summers business. We probably will be spending the rest of the window with our foot in the water monitoring situations like Sanchez and Neymar and if the opportunity presents itself we'll take it but if not , I don't think Jose will be upset
