It is absolutely, categorically not true that voting is the only opportunity the average person has to effect change in their society. It's not even the most important one.

I hope his on-field performances this upcoming season prompt such active posting!

It's unlikely he gets on a roster and he isn't going to improve any team anyways. He is going to be despised by a big portion of every fanbase now so it's not worth taking him on.

You don't think he would be an improvement over Bryce Petty, or Jared Goff were he to continue on as he was last year?

If he gives a team a notable improvement at the QB spot they'd get over his political stance pretty quickly, sure to take it to a further extent if you play good enough you can even openly be friends with Donald Trump in one of the 'bluest' states in the US. :p

A flag might not mean much to you or me, but it does to millions. And it's not just the 'flag', but for those that were offended it means a whole lot more.
Without probably meaning to, he offended them. Then he kept doing it, which really didn't help.

I think he's good enough to be backup for a few teams. I'd like to know what he's asking for though; and unfortunately it's getting less and less likely that someone is going to look to sign him at this stage.

I am aware the flag means a lot to those people. As I said they need to sort out their priorities. Not his fault their priorities are mucked up. But hey no matter how someone protests it always seems to be the "wrong" of protesting.

Sorry, you dismissing their priorities is akin to others dismissing Kap's proprieties.
People have relatives/family who have died under that flag. It means a lot to them; I don't think it's some trivial matter that they need to sort out.
I disagree with being so devote to the flag itself, but dismissing their allegiance is unfair.

A: I disagree with them but I would not be against firing them.

B: dishonourning a flag is not the same as dishonouring those who died for their country. It has gotten to the point where you can't give out about anything without being considered unpatriotic (it's the American way and people died for the American way therefore you can't give out about this thing) which shuts down all arguments and prevents any sort of progress. I mean like seriously does discussing the pros and cons of various military engagements show disrespect to those killed in it (and Kap was not even referring to military engagements)? Of course not, the pros and cons of various issues can be discussed without being unpatriotic and if someone wants to highlight and bring attention to an issue in a way that hurts and hinders exactly no one then more f***ing power to them.

C: yeah a guy did not stand when a piece of cloth was waved and is somehow being punished more than people who beat up people incapable of defending themselves. They need to sort out their priorities. Seriously everyone knew the point he was making and it had nothing to do with the military. Unfortunately no one wanted to address that point so they hid behind something else.

You can worship the flag however you like but it is an impressive level of being thin skinned to get annoyed at someone else not standing for it.

As for Kap and the Flag. He really didn't do anything wrong but disrespecting the US flag is a HUGE no no in the US. You have a large amount of Patriotism on both sides of the political fence who will hate anyone who disrespects the US flag. IT doesn't matter that Kap was free to do so or the reasons he was doing it for a large majority are going to hate him for it. In life you pick your battles and Kap unfortunately picked the wrong one.

I think it shows he has picked the right one personally. It's not like public stands have a history of being liked by the populace at large at the time.

Everyone saying he could have picked a better way to protest essentially mean he could have picked one easier to ignore.

Personally I think he picked the wrong one as I have stated already. It is easier for non Americans and the Uber Liberal Americans to condone what he did and say he did the right thing but as I said he pissed off the majority on both sides of the political divide and pissed a lot of the black community also. You just don't take your grievances out on the American Flag.

Many will agree what he did truly wasn't that wrong and many will say he did what his Freedom as an American stands for and what was fought for but and again a HUGE but you don't take it out on the US flag and disrespect it as you will piss off far too many people including your employer and the owners in the league. Its the type of anger that cuts deep when you disrespect the American flag to a lot of people.

Von Miller is a freak of nature - Broncos coaches are having to limit his training camp participation because he is distorting the evaluation of the offence.

    You didn't.

    You didn't.

Don't worry. Once the season starts and the Broncos lose a few games he'll disappear again. He does love the meaningless pre-season though.

About as much as the Denver offense. :)

Unsportsman like conduct. 15 yard penalty from the spot of the foul.

Anyway... Here's Joe Staley being shot out of a cannon in the 2011 playoffs.

Don't worry - disappearing now - as always, little point in hanging around with people who have nothing constructive to say.

If you want to add something constructive, make it a discussion point and not a statement.

    So instead of:
"Von Miller is a freak athlete!!!"

Which no one can really have any meaningful response to,

    You do something like:
"Von Miller looking incredible this offseason, will he be sack leader if he stays healthy?"

That way instead of simply presenting a fanboy comment, you're backing your player while making it something other people can have an opinion on.....

Anyone watched the second season of All or Nothing on Amazon with the Rams??

Kinda disappointed it's the Rams this year, already got a strong dose of Fisher and Goff's ineptitude through Hard Knocks but the Cardinal's season was brilliant so I'll give it a chance :)

Also when can we expect the new episodes of Hard Knocks? Usually around start of training camp isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,475 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Think I've two episodes or so left to watch. It is very good again, though. Slow first couple of episodes, perhaps, but overall it is well worth a watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,166 ✭✭✭Beefy78

All or Nothing was way better than Hard Knocks. I've heard people say it took a few episodes to get going but I enjoyed it from the start - possibly because even when they started the season so well you knew that it was going to all fall down around them.

Saw Bortles throw 5 interceptions yesterday (was meant to be a brutal practice from him) and probably decided it wasn't worth going through the pain and suffering anymore.

Well, apparently he'll owe the team back 3.7m of his signing bonus if he does retire, so I imagine you'll see him have a change of heart pretty quickly.

    No point starting a new thread for this;

Does anyone know what pre season magazines Eason's stock? Seen Lindy's there the other day, had Athlon one last year and found it very good. Any other decent ones beside these two?
