Serge Aurier is a little scallywag, one we could be doing without.

In a Periscope Q+A in early 2016, Aurier called his manager Laurent Blanc a p**sy who fellates Zlatan Ibrahimovic...
    balls and all.

In the same Q+A, he apparently was disrespectful to his fellow RB Gregory Van der Wiel as well as Edison Cavani, and called DiMaria a clown. (Might be right on that last one, but still shouldn't have said it)

He also made comment on the PSG goalkeepers, saying that one of them was 'better' while the other one was 'done'

Imagine Lingard, Pogba or a young player making those comments about DDG and Romero. Actually, imagine any of our players making any of the above comments about their manager or team-mates.

There seems to a good rapport building between the current squad and manager. Aurier is decent, but nowhere near good enough to have to tolerate that shíte or run the risk of disrupting a pleasant atmosphere.

It's true. Thank god at least he didn't talk about offside goal.

So assuming Magic is signed I wonder whether there will be any more. I can't see Peresic signing at this stage so I wonder if someone else is on the radar.

He is pushing on a bit now but should add some extra height to the team

We drew a lot of games last year when we needed three pointers.

    Good signing.

Will be interesting to see if we will still pursue in getting another player in or will that be it?

We have had a tidy summer with the 3 coming in, but I'm not sure it's enough to compete in long term in 2 big competitions.

In saying that I be hoping that some of the players will have a better season then one just gone by, so if we get most of them putting in good shifts we should have our best season since Fergie era.

Perisic seems to be the big one in terms of whether we sign a player or not.

I can see why Jose would want him - fast, direct, good crosser etc - a traditional winger. But if we sign him, i wonder what happens with Martial and Rashford - 3 players for the one position is a tough one to juggle, though I feel Jose would be shot of Martial without much concern.

I think the club will continue to try buy Perisic, given Jose mentioned an attacking winger as a priority a few days ago, but whether we get him is up in the air. Might take just paying up like we have done for Matic.

Ya I don't know enough about Perisic to make a good or bad for him, but judging by Inter fans I have read he be a huge loss to them.

The more I think about Matic the more I think it's a super signing and will free up the attacking players much better. But his form past couple of seasons is a slight concern just hope that was a blip.

I don't see much of a problem with his form he was asked to play a different midfield role last year then he was under Jose and he bagged a handful of assists and goals while still having decent defensive stats.

The season before that the entire team had a brainfart of sorts all he will have to do to replace Carrick is to intercept and read attacks and pass the ball out from deep midfield to the attacking players.

In PSGs first game after the Barcelona debacle, after about 70minutes a PSG player got injured. The PSG manager called Serge Aurier to go on. Aurier didn't have socks, shin guards or a jersey ready. He hadn't even warmed up since before the game.

PSG went about 10mins with 10 men waiting for him to get ready. He is complete and utter tosspot that you wouldn't want anywhere near your team.

Agree, he has been enthralled in numerous ridiculous situations that PSG tried and tried with and he just keeps ****ing up.

Wouldn't want him anywhere near the club, no matter his ability. If he can't conduct himself properly for PSG where there is minimal pressure, no way he will cut it at United.

IF I'm not mistaken this is the guy that went on instagram/snapchat and called the manager and Zlatan homosexual terms and basically slated his team and the club and fans and is just a pure waster.

Absolutely no thanks, nevermind probably paying stupid money for him.

If Jose gets more out of the players at his disposal, Pogba coming into the season from good rest and a full pre-season, Mhiki settled, a proven PL goalscorer, we should be challenging for the title and would be good to get into the knockouts of the CL to get a taste for it again. If I subscribe to the analysis from others that Matic will provide massively beneficial to Pogba and Hererra...well then.

From pre-season, playing three different formations, it looks like he wants the team to be a bit more flexible and adaptable depending on how the game is going, which is a good thing.

I think challenging for the CL is a long way off, but the league should be in reach of this squad and manager. Surprisingly no one has massivley strengthened as I maybe thought would happen before the window, granted there is still time left, I didn't anticipate that clubs would get somewhat nervous at the big outlays that were predictable this summer.

I don't believe City have overly strengthened if I'm honest, but maybe the second season under Pep will be more fruitful. Arsenal with Lacazatte doesn't seem enough, but no CL should help them domestically. Spurs are yet to sign, and while having a strong first XI, they are going to have to prioritise again between league and CL as they don't have depth. Chelsea don't feel like they will slip away under Conte and while Liverpools squad still looks meh, they've a manager there able to maximise resources.

Looks like another tough and challenging season ahead, but no reason not to count ourselves in the mix before a ball is kicked.

You could argue that has been his mean in terms of form in England. He had a half season where he was genuinelly brilliant, but his reputation seemed to hike on the back of it (rightly so) but then never really drift back down from his dipping performances.

Like I think it's telling when your buying from a rival, where they want to sell, even moreso as sitting champions. This is a player Chelsea no longer needed nor wanted.

So fingers crossed he works out for us, because it's the first signing since Fellaini where I'm "hmmmm, I dunno"

The only rule we need is everyone to set their autocorrect on their phones to Matic. I'm pretty sure we aren't signing Harry Potter.

Speaking of signings, PSG are said to be selling Jese,Di Maria, Lucas,Ben Arfa,Krychowiak,Matuidi along with Aurier to help fund the Neymar deal.
Imagine the meltdown if Jose brought Di Maria back to United.

I personally think part of the reason Chelsea are willing to sell is down to the formation change. (Plus 40million for a 29year old is a good deal)

Matic is a DM, plays the defensive position of a midfield 3 (Imo). At Chelsea prior to Conte, and now at United, that was a role that needed to be filled.

Conte moved them to a 3 man defence - so the defensive position in midfield has basically gone. Matic played as a more conventional CM player, beside Kante. This role, particularly with Kante beside you, needs to be more box to box and attacking than a Defensive Midfield role. So, Conte wants a more box to box player - and bought one in Bakayoko.

I don’t think it is that Matic is a bad player (not that you said that) but that he doesn’t fit perfectly into the formation Chelsea will use, so is therefor expendable, especially when a good price comes in for him.

In saying that, I think there are better players for the role than Matic, but there are few that are actually gettable. I think Matic is currently better in the role than Dier, but I feel Dier would have had a better, and longer, upside. But, Mourinho knows Matic well and must believe Matic can perform the role required, to the standard needed. I’ve got to trust Jose on this one.

I do think the workrate and defensive contribution of Herrera will still be needed, Matic will not be a one man defensive show, but I think a midfield three of Matic, Herrera and Pogba is better both offensively and defensively than Fellaini, Herrera and Pogba.

Lucas could be an interesting signing, whether United would take the punt on him (especially after he rejected us for PSG iirc) I don't know.

Heading to the game on Wednesday in the Aviva. Anyone know how it may be possible to get a photo/autograph with the players either at hotel/stadium?

Feel free to PM also. Any help appreciated!

Matic at DM is the positional signing we probably needed more than any other. It might not garner the attention the arrival of Lukaku did but it's just as crucial.

Pogba can now play with a bit more freedom.

If we could get Perisic done then we can give the season a good rattle. Still think we'll be short of a title challenge but I'd settle for a solid top three finish this year which would be a decent improvement on last year's meek 6th.

United are the best cup team in the PL, which makes it interesting to see how they do in the CL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,397 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Left back is a major concern in this team, imo.

None of Blind, Rojo or Darmian are good enough there. Shaw might be but he has a long way to go to prove it, and won't be fit til september.

Its my 3rd time saying it, but anything other then title challenge or go close in CL will be poor year.

The excuses for me are over. Jose has a season under his belt and I can see the success of winning 2 trophies last season, this has be a title mounting season now.

We have not been close to it since 2013, and for a club of Uniteds stature that is not good enough.
