I'd be more likely to try set in with someone using similar weights to me.

Yeah the less adding and removing weights the better I think

I usually offer when people ask me how many sets I have left, unless I only have a couple, but have been directly asked a good few times when I haven't offered. Would not say it is because I am a girl at all - they would ask anyone.

I also ask myself occasionally, like a few weeks back when somebody was doing 10 sets of calf raises in the squat rack and taking aaaages.

Would they be more likely to ask a girl to work in on say for example... the squat rack because:

    a) they think she would be finished sooner than the lads.
    b) she is using lighter weights so easier to remove the plates rather than asking the big muscular dude over in the corner with 3 plates instead of the 1 or 2 on the bar.

Am lucky to be in a gym with four squat racks and I train at a semi-busy time of day so it doesn't come up much... but I've worked in with boys, girls, strong hoors, weedy hoors, chatty types, borderline mutes, people who take short rests, people who take longggg rests, people who help strip the bar, people who don't... and it was all... pretty much... the same...

People setting up within a yard behind me in the Body Sculpt group class. Like, how to hell am I to do my exercises with one leg back and one forward (forget the actual name for this exercise, Squats with one leg back).

I do but often get ignored. At least sometimes the fitness instructor notices the problem and asks them to move back a couple of feet more.

They could be new to a class maybe and not realise what exercises are done/how much space is needed.

No, not new. Seen the culprit there plenty of times before.

Walk up to the culprit and ask them to move

I was stating that I find it annoying. This is what this thread is about. A bit of common sense and courtesy would mean I do not have the task of asking her to move back.

A few sweaty boots to the face will have her shifted in no time. If they don't respect your space you don't respect theirs.

I was going to suggest killing them in the face with murder but your response was a more appropriate way of dealing with the situation.

Ever since leaving the commercial gym environment, I feel really left out of this thread.... I'm really grateful for that when I see some of the shìte posted here.

To be fair, I can't say I've seen a whole lot of it myself in the commercial gym I train in. Maybe I'm oblivious though...

No, I meant that it apparently turns people into completely unreasonable lunatics, around whom you can't even wear a hat or ask to work in on a rack!

I saw a guy wearing two slightly different shades of blue earlier. I don't understand how some people can live with themselves. I was barely able to get back to my work out once I finished crying.

Cutting their nails in the changing rooms and showers. Leaving the bits of nail everywhere. Disgusting.

Can I just clarify that I wasn't the one having a problem with people working in I was just playing devils advocate and trying to figure out if there was certain criteria that meant 'weaker' people got asked more often to share rather than others. I've never refused anyone.

Gotta say people who are nearly sitting on your lip in a class is really annoying.

In particular, Les Mills Bodypump & CXWorx require you to be able to move about without hitting others (especially in CXWorx where you're doing lots of lunges/extended leg kicks etc)

I get if someone's new and they don't know, but I have seen loads of frequent class-goers placing their mats right beside mine and I do ask them to move up (or back) a bit but I wonder why it doesn't occur to them from the get-go to leave enough room.

These people always look surprised when they nearly get kicked in the face later on.

I wasn't directing that post at you or anyone in particular. Apologies if it came across that way!

Dude doing rack pulls and smashing them into the rack like he has a grudge. Buddy I'm deadlifting a lot more and a lot more quietly over here, calm yourself

It's all about marginal gains. Excess noise, hats, nipples on show and wearing your hood up has been show to increase gains by up to 5%

If it was light, at least he wasn't ruining the bar...

Bluewolf is a lady, to add some context to that comment.

One of my biggest pet peeves really is people being needlessly loud and smashy. Like, I know, it's tough: how else will the people downstairs know how big and tough you are?
