I'm still hoping that tonight in London just as they are finishing up the lights go out.....bells toll....and the undertaker appears...

I'm not really sure why you find the concept so difficult. Language and interpretation of language isn't universal. As an example, I've no problem with any of my friends jokingly referring to us as taigs or fenians. It's not ok for Billy or Sammy from East Belfast to do the same.

Interesting that Espinoza gave this interview to Ariel considering they dropped him..

Says his patience is running thin with Conor and laughably has a go at UFC press conferences, saying that they are designed to emphasize Dana rather than the fighters!

What a load of baloney. Fcuking weasel!

Just so we're all on the same page and can have a reasonable discussion about who won each conference, I've put together:

    Judging criteria for press conferences

    1. Effective barbs
    2. Effective comebacks

1 and 2 shall be weighted according to format. Where the majority of the conference consists of "back and forth" criterion 2 shall take precedence.

    3. Effective control of the stage . This includes, but is not limited to, arrival time, use of "crews" and seating arrangements.

    4. Personal fashion style, including footwear.

The use of thick soled or heeled shoes shall be assessed under criterion 4, not 3.

I reckon 1 of two things happened last night.

    1) Showtime put pressure on McGregor to ease off on his performance as Floyd et Al were looking awful in comparison. They have sway and that would explain why it was so bad and why Conor looked so píssed off

    2) sometimes a performer (and that's what Conor is at the moment) will put on a shítshow to get people talking about it and then next time up to bat will knock it out of the park.

I'm hoping it is one of those two because if he turns up for London and does as badly at the presser I'm genuinely worried for his mindset and performance for the fight

Joe.ie are pathetic of course, but claiming that Canadians are Irish is a new one.

It was a fair speech he could do worse than using it tonight :pac:

Anyway regardless of whatever drivel I wrote at 3am, would you agree he'd be better advised to show a bit of humility and contrition tonight?

The past 3 nights have been:

    "you're a b1tch"
    "no, you're a b1tch"
"no, no, no you're the b1tch".

I'd just quite like it if he showed the world some of the wit we all know he possesses. He doesn't have to go out there and try to be Oscar Wilde but if he just toned it down a little, it'd be much better promotionally and otherwise.

That was painful to watch last night.

I'd say it's neither of the two, it was just a terrible show, with poor taste and unfunny quips. Conor's whole "come up and stop me" act isn't the road he should go down, he should stick to speaking about Floyd, how he's going to dismantle him, etc etc. That's what builds hype...not a bloody mink coat that nobody gives a **** about.

Or, he lost the run of himself, thought he was funny in his head but really wasn't.

The 1st two of these Conor had me in stitches and comments like "look at the tiny head on him" etc.

I have no idea WTF that was last night but he wasn't good, funny or clever. He wasn't being edgy or trolling with some master plan to make London amazing. He honestly seems to have lost the run of himself and what he was saying.

The line Conor used "Dance for me boy" has heavy racial undertones. In the history of slavery, black people would be forced to do things to entertain their masters, Like dancing or fighting. More recently the term 'Dancing N word was used to describe a black man who is subservient to whites. 'Boy' does not have the same venom as N but it's a substitute for it.

Maybe so but that doesn't excuse his words. You say B, C or P but you can't say anything related to race, and definitely don't say N

I would like to see a toned down finish to the press tour, (not much chance of that) Conor for me has gone too far on a few occasions, and not in a good way.

Id be a bit of an environmentalist head (and a square obviously) but I hate that ****. Wearing a polar bear on stage aint funny to me. Hopefully it was fake fur but I dont think it was.

Floyd walking out with the tricolour was far better in fairness.

I'm not one for that stuff either, but I can recognise that's just me...not everyone is bothered by it. I'd be surprised if there was any mass appeal for it at the same time though, I mean, buying a fur coat is right at the bottom of my wishes should I suddenly become rich. Anyway, it's all moot...the presser bombed, the late appearances and predictably awful audio were just the straws.

Fingers crossed for a Toronto style London showing tonight.

I think it's safe to say "he wasn't himself" - its a once off performance that bombed and I'm saying there has to be a reason for that.

Personally I believe Conor done a great job of getting under Mayweather skin. Mayweather was moaning afterwords about it. Mission accomplished for Conor. After this fight the will both shake on it and move on. It's all a show "ALL"

He has done nothing to get under Mayweathers skin

    Mayweather is the promotor

He is about the happiest he has ever been before a fight

Conor is a wannabe Floyd in terms of how he portrays himself..so he will never come out on top of these exchanges

    1. Conor bases his whole persona around money...Mayweather owes almost Conors entire net worth in taxes...and thats just under 10% of what hes worth...Sit down Conor...drop the charade

    2. He makes fun of Mayweathers clothes...Mayweather rightly points out that really rich people dont need to dress up to front...and points to Daná (Conors Boss) as an example..lets not forget Conor walking out the next night dressed like a Liberace spinoff

    3. The reading thing...really?? so thats how low you sink when you've got nothing..take a look at the life story of Mayweather...and you might not feel as comfortable picking out irrelevant things like that...low imo

    4. Mayweather throwing money at Conor and calling him a stripper was only fitting...he looked like a proper clown

Conor for once should do less talking here for once...because he's out of his league as hes up against the person he basically photocopied to succeed...I like Conor at MMA press conferences genuinely... but hes out of his league here

Agree completely, context is obviously key. That's how most language works.

Continuing your example, somebody from east Belfast saying it has negative connotations sure. But the equivalent to that for the "Boy" thing is someone Deep South red neck saying it, not a somebody from Ireland.

And fenian isn't exactly an everyday word like boy/girl/man.

He has done nothing to get under Mayweathers skin

Then why is he resorting to playing the race card? Even after he heard Conor on stage saying that he has no problem with black people.

No need for that crap......... clearly he is riled.

Yep. The 3 press conferences are up to 14,200,000 views between the UFC and Showtime channels and obviously rising. Dana White's VLOG is up to 3,700,000 views total so far. MMA Fighting's content for the last 3 days is up to over 5,400,000 through youtube and God knows how much more traffic through their site.

Regardless of how we score or review the last few days, they are absolutely crushing it numbers wise on youtube. #Maymacworldtour has hit the #1 spot on twitter every night for trends. In terms of google, they are doing almost 35% more in terms of searches compared to the May-Pac pressers in 2015.

It's all looking peachy on the promotional front.

On the sponsorship front, Conor needs to steer away from anything to do with racism and misogyny if he actually wants to attract powerhouse sponsors.

Only problem with that point of view is that it is universally accepted that he came out on top of an exchange with Mayweather less than 48 hours ago.

    1. You've no idea what Floyd is worth and his own father said he worries he'll go bankrupt due to his ways.

    2. He was having fun.

    3. As opposed to what? Floyd's genius wit? "hard work! hard work!"

    4. The only thing that made him look like a clown was him making a pigs ear of a joke to defend himself against the racism accusations.

If Conor is out of his league it *might* be in the ring August 26th. Otherwise he's far from out of his league. He's clearly *winning* this press tour if winning = who goes viral. He's crushing Floyd in every single way online - his videos doing more views, there's more articles being written about him, he's beating Floyd on every metric.

The whole point of press conferences is to get your name into the press.

It's frankly laughable to suggest he is out of his league when it comes to competing on a microphone against Mr. "Hard Work!".

Floyd trying to get the black ppv buys as they tune in to see him whoop the racist, clear as day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,423 ✭✭✭✭Outlaw Pete

What's the story with the "The uploader has not made this video available in your country" error on tonight's presser stream.... wasn't that way for any of the other three.

Says 7pm kick off by the way....... so should be on by midnight at least.

Because it shifts needless focus to McGregor, which will rile him up more. This isn't Mayweathers first rodeo, he knows what he is up to.

If Floyd is so "proud to be an American" what is he doing walking out with a piece of cloth resembling an Irish flag draped over his shoulders?
Honestly couldn't ever see CMG walking out with a USA cloth or any other cloth for that matter.
