Small somewhat irrelevant point but Sean O'Brien has nothing to do with Blackrock.
Cormac Daly has apparently signed for Tarf and Ruadhan McDonnell has gone to UCD I believe. Haven't heard anything concrete or surprising on anyone else. Hopeful most if not all the Belvo lads will be in Tarf. Good to see Max in the squad despite rumours of a move to Ulster.

Could be wrong, this was the named training squad back in june.

Aungier surely moving to Tarf too?

SOB definitely nothing to do with Rock. He is Tarf/Mullingar.

Hopefully, has been offered the UCD scholarship so will end up there if he gets the points apparently. Obviously biased but would suggest Tarf the best place for him.

I was just think about how this would work- I came up a schedule based the following principles.

    1. That the existing six teams with continue to follow their senior teams schedule.

    2. At least 5 days rest between games

This would be the schedule based on recent years...

    2 February
    Wales v Scotland,
    France v Ireland,
    Italy v England,

    9 February
    Ireland v Italy,
    England v Wales,
    Scotland v France,

    23 February
    France v Italy,
    Ireland v Wales,
    Scotland v England,

    9 March
    Ireland v Scotland,
    France v England,
    Wales v Italy, Sunday

    16 March
    Italy v Scotland,

    England v Ireland,
    Wales v France

I have added in Georgia and Romania by playing two games on the week before the six nations starts and two games on each of the rest weekends. By delaying some u-20 games until Saturdays it means at least 5 days between all games. Obviously this isn't ideal but could work if u-20's following the senior schedule is important to the organisers.

    Wed 24 January

    Romania V England
    Georgia V Wales

    Mon 29 January
    Romania V France
    Georgia V Ireland

    Fri 2 February
    Wales v Scotland,
    Italy v England,

    Sat 3 Feb
    France v Ireland,

    Fri 9 February
    Ireland v Italy,
    England v Wales,
    Scotland v France,

    Wed 14 Feb
    Romania V Ireland
    Georgia V Italy

    Mon 19 Feb
    Romania V Scotland
    Georgia V England

    Friday 23 February
    France v Italy,
    Ireland v Wales

    Sat 24 February
    Scotland v England

    Wed 28 February
    Georgia v France
    Romania v Italy

    Mon 5 March
    Georgia v Scotland
    Romania V wales

    Sat 10 March
    Ireland v Scotland,
    France v England,
    Wales v Italy,

    Fri 16 March
    Italy v Scotland,

    England v Ireland,
    Wales v France,

    Romania V Georgia

So Munster/Connacht not fielding u20 sides this summer.

Ulster & Leinster expected to play against each other.

Also heard rumour that a lot of leinster's larger squad dropped out of summer training after being told that sub academy for next season had been decided already.

Must say the management of u20's rugby in the country leaves a lot to be desired.

if they can loan james ryan to munster for a game surely they could redistribute the players amongst the other 2 provinces to get at least token competitive u20's interpros

While Connacht may not be fielding a 20s side in the interpros at least they've some clubs trying to field u20 sides even if it's only for a few blitz style events now. Hopefully that keeps some more kids playing for the new season that may otherwise have quit playing

Important they keep plugging away foundations are there with Galwegians, NUIG, Sligo & Buccs so hopefully they resurrect a competitive under 20s provincial side

Are these teams not involved with Leinster Branch Leagues?

Also who has confirmed that Connaught & Munster are not fielding @ U20's this season? And why?

that's incorrect. Both are fielding sides in Under 20 development games. Munster play Leinster September 1st in Thomond Park and play Connacht in Galway September 8th

What is difference between development games and Inter pro games

What is difference between development games and Inter pro games
nothing. They're still interpros but not limited to the under 20 age group if a province feels they want/need to use other players who would be ineligible for games played at the under 20 grade

Ulster have named an academy side to play Leinster

    http://www.ulsterrugby.com/news/16386.php#.WZXYH0HTXYU

A lot of players there not eligible for Under 20, only two inter pro games? Would have thought there would have been a good argument to play each other twice.

Ulster won 34-30. So was it Ulster Academy v Leinster U20? Although I assume most of the Ulster side were U20 anyway?

Bit of an odd game. Leinster were hammering Ulster until they shifted a few injuries and ended up with no 10. Leinster lost their shape and conceded some pretty poor tries. Discipline was really poor from Leinster.

Dean was very good while he was on and Sylvester was excellent.

I was reading a match report on the Ulster rugby website and the name Callum Smith was quite prominent. Don't know anything about him though.

    Fullback. Malone, I think.

    NEED BACKROWS.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,340 ✭✭✭Locke_Lamora

Callum Smith was playing in the barbarian game. I'm pretty sure he played fly half for coleraine inst, and centre/fullback for Ulster interpro sides. According to the Ulster website, he's not in the academy. Maybe sub academy?

    Fullback. Malone, I think.

    NEED BACKROWS.

There are two or three promising back rows in the Academy, but they're only 18 or 19.

It will be interesting to see who emerges from the Academy this season.

Last year it was Stockdale and to a lesser extent Rob Lyttle. Matthew Rea and Nick Timoney are two who will hopefully get a decent shot this season, both being back rows.

That team is correct (not 100% on Hickey). Had never seen Peter Sullivan before, he's a very impressive athlete. Looks big enough to play pro already.
I was told Hughie and Paddy Paterson are injured and James Kenny has quit. Apparently Kelleher has moved to LFC (good move for both if true)

The 12 i'm not sure about but it looks like Hickey I think..

Heard Kenny was injured too, needed shoulder surgery but could be wrong.

    Bench(i think)
    16. Dan Sheehan(Clongowes)
    17. Adam Coyle(Naas)
    18. Joe Byrne(Blackrock)
    19. Cian Reilly(Blackrock)
    20. Max Kearney(Belvedere)
    21. Peter O'Beirne(St. Michaels)
    22. Harry Byrne(St. Michaels)
    23. Conor Dunne(Tullamore)
    24. Tom Roche(Blackrock)

How'd Aungier get on at TH?
How was Clarke's throwing in lineout?
    How'd the second rows do?

    Yeah heard similarly on Kelleher.

Hickey wasn't 12, not sure who was tbh

The 12 i'm not sure about but it looks like Hickey I think..

Heard Kenny was injured too, needed shoulder surgery but could be wrong.

    Bench(i think)
    16. Dan Sheehan(Clongowes)
    17. Adam Coyle(Naas)
    18. Joe Byrne(Blackrock)
    19. Cian Reilly(Blackrock)
    20. Max Kearney(Belvedere)
    21. Peter O'Beirne(St. Michaels)
    22. Harry Byrne(St. Michaels)
    23. Conor Dunne(Tullamore)
    24. Tom Roche(Blackrock)

How'd Aungier get on at TH?
How was Clarke's throwing in lineout?
    How'd the second rows do?

    Yeah heard similarly on Kelleher.
Conor Doran was on the bench as well. Think the 12 was the Mary's guy but not 100%.
Aungier went well but only got a half, one or 2 knock ons but scrummed and carried pretty well. Lineouts went pretty well with Clarke one or 2 not great but to be expected realistically. Both second rows went well plenty of carrying and work rate. Leinster were much the better team until Harry Byrne had to go off.

    Thanks, what about Tim Murphy?

    Thanks, what about Tim Murphy?

    no idea.

would have expected him to be ahead of O'Beirne/Fabian but only because he played A last year when they were in school.

it would be a shame if Kenny wasn't involved with the sub academy.

Murphy is obviously better then them. Probably injured or decided not to play. Same with Cagney
