Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He got about 30 minutes but was sin binned for 10 of that. Harsh yellow in my opinion. Cormac Daly started again and was v good again.

Terenure beat Suttonians 20-11 and Marys beat MU Barnhall 15-7 today. I've no idea about teams for either game though. Somebody said that this was the last round but looking at the leinster website all the sections have one team played 3, one played 1 and 2 played 2 so do they have to play another round or two still or is there some weird rule I'm not aware of?

    The Premier 1 Division for 2017/18 :

    Lansdowne
    UCD
    Trinity
    St. Mary's
    Terenure
    Blackrock
    Navan
    Clontarf

Should be a competitive league as from what I've heard teams like Terenure, Clontarf and Blackrock have improved since last season.

I saw that. I wonder if they couldn't field or just didn't want to be in Prem 1. Playoff system is a tough one OB looked too good for Prem 2.

Barnhall needed to lose by less than 7 to go into Prem 1

Heard that last play Marys were winning 10-7, had a lineout on the Barnhall 5 but overthrew the ball. Barnhall player gathered the ball, tried to kick it out, rebounded off his own player into a Marys player who forced his way over for a try.

Looks like it will be Barnhall and OB to play for Prem 2

Some teams have an extra game played as they had to play each other for "right" to play the bigger two teams in group.

    Still a funny one -

    Lansdowne beat Marys fairly handily
    Barnhall beat Lansdowne
    Marys beat Barnhall by 8

But it's on the head to head

It's a tough one but hard to find a truly fair way of doing it. Not many of the teams are a guaranteed level each year and excluding UCD/Trin/Lansdowne each year from qualification would give them an unfair advantage either perceived or actual. I can't think of a fairer way to do it but certainly don't think it's perfect by any stretch.

Apparently it was Hugo Lennox who kicked the ball into his own man

Yeah its hard to find a truly fair way but surely giving each team 3 cracks at it would be more fair that giving one team just one shot.
Anyway section 1 looks really competitive, no real stand out teams that are head and shoulders above the rest if im not mistaken so should be a good league

Not too late to do it. Great signing for Navan if true - was hugely impressed with him again on Friday. interesting to see if anyone else leaves any of the none qualifying teams.

As above I heard Belvo have lost a pile of players - 5/6 starters

I assume the likes of Suttonians and Barnhall, who were both not a million miles away from Prem 1 (Barnhall in particular) might have players being looked at

Or else the Suttonians lads might just play for their 1sts

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,585 ✭✭✭irishfan9

someone like McCrohan would surely be good enough to play 1sts for Belvo.

Also Jack Dunne and Cormac Daly trained with Leinster's senior side yesterday, obviously just there for bodies but good to see.

Dunne is pretty big and doesn't look like he has stopped growing.

Really think this is a huge glitch in the system. Terrible system that allows players to jump ship just because their team hasn't qualified for the top league

Anyone know if Charlie Ryan is still injured or what clubs he’s with?

If Blackrock Rugby Club could just manage to hold on to a decent percentage of the SCT players coming out of Blackrock College every year they’d seriously challenge at u20 most years

True, but 10/15 yrs ago most of the senior players would end up playing in the club. They’d only lost 2 or 3 big players to UCD or Trinity

Obviously the academy requirements has a big impact now

Most old boys clubs have lost their connection to their original schools these days in comparison to what it was bar terenure which isnt surprising considering they share grounds and coaches between the two.
Conor Dean playing for leinster a, surprising since im pretty sure he's been mostly on the bench for marys so far. O'sullivan, sylvestre and harry byrne involved too from a 20's pov.

Dean only back from injury, the fact that he has been on the bench for marys won't really be a factor in selection for Leinster A, given Dean is odds on favourite to be Ireland u20 starting outhalf and is in the sub academy for the second year.

Dean played for A team last year too if I remember right.
