Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can we make a rule this year that you need to review someone else's team before you post your own team? Otherwise it just becomes everyone posting their team

Not sure if Wijnaldum will get as much game time with Salah to start and Henderson back fit

Could also be playing more defensively to accomodate Salah

Is 3 duds very risky with Walters not nailed to start ?

Same worry with Lallana as with Wiji

Salah/Mane/Coutinho/Firmino all likely to start when available

Henderson nailed when fit leaves Wiji/Can/Lallana and potentially Keita :D:D fighting for 1 spot

it helps to know who your subs are. Also better to have the pic visible in the thread if possible. First XI looks ok - very decent looking back-line and having PVA and Cedric will earn you some forum kudos :pac: I said my piece on Walters in general chat. Possibly great value if he turns out to be nailed. McArthur i'm so-so on. Will he be safe with RLC's arrival? Tom Carroll is probably the safest bet with potential for 4.5. RLC could prove good value also. Rest of your attack looks very good hard to argue with any of those picks. You have 3 good captain options every week also which is always good.

    Now on to my team:

So here we go. First draft but i'm surprisingly happy with it

    Fabianski (Elliott)
    Alonso Bellerin Trippier Lindelof Milner
    Sanchez Mané Zaha (RLC Carroll)
    Lukaku Llorente (Murphy)

Feels a bit weird to be seriously considering 5-3-2, but then again i see serious points potential in the 5 i picked! Of course some of those may no longer be nailed by the time teams' transfer business is done.

Captaincy options i'm looking at Lukaku and Sanchez (Mané possibly if he has a very nice fixture). Zaha at 7m i like - if he carries on his form from last season he should be great value. I'm favouring Llorente as my 7.5m forward. Was very good in the 2nd half of last season. Nice to know there's some other decent options at the same price - King, Rooney, Rashford - as well as some decent cheaper options.

Carroll and RLC bench fodder starting off, but who knows there could be some decent points scoring in there. Then Murphy as my 4.5m forward just because (doesn't look like any of the 4.5m options will be starters).

Budget limits me to 8.5m for keepers then so picked Fabianski but that could change. He's nailed on at least and Swans fixtures are mostly decent til around GW14. Sacrifices needed to get the rest of the team i wanted and last season proved cheap keepers can score above their price-bracket.

I'd be worried about miner tbh I don't know if there's enough value in him just been a pen taker and Liverpool leak goals partly because they don't have a proper left back

I wouldn't go near Matic or Xhaka. They offer very little in fantasy terms. Your defence is too expensive if going 3 at the back, get rid of some of the dearer ones and get some 4.5s in there.

Im sure I read somewhere he would've been the 3rd highest scoring defender last year if classed as a defender

I read that too - and that is even with Liverpool's defensive problems which will surely be tightened up a little this season. I think Milner is a good pick.

I see a lot of Sanchez in teams - is nobody concerned that he may be eased back in after the Confed. Cup? Especially if he is still at Arsenal?

Went with a striker heavy (despite all my complaints) first draft.

    Foster (Myhill)
    Lindelof Cedric Holgate (Long, Mee)
Pedro Alli Knockaert Walters (Loftus Cheek)
    Kane Lukaku Jesus

Obviously that strategy will have to be looked at heavily, but I've found that the attacking players outside the absolute elite, have been heavily overpriced, so why not go for the elite themselves while trying to find some bargains.

Kane, Jesus and Knockaert combo the same price as Salah, Lacazette and Ozil for instance. Which seems insane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,655 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

I like the look of that team CSF. Early doors, there's no need for a balanced team. Find 11 of the best starters and try and get some price rises on the board.

    Yeah I've temporarily adjusted to
    Foster (Myhill)
    Lindelof Trippier Cedric (Mariappa, Long)
Alli, Fabregas, Knockaert, Ince (Loftus Cheek)
    Kane, Lukaku, Jesus

While I wait for somebody to get injured and value to be created in the defensive areas at least. Obviously I can't really start the season with Mariappa and Long in my squad.............or can I?

Have been thinking about trying 5 at the back since last season and this is what I've come up with so far:

    Foster (Myhill)
    Alonso Milner Kolasinac Trippier Lindelof
    Sanchez Fabregas Walters (RLC Carroll)
    Aguero Lukaku (Fletcher)

3 big captaincy options with the rest of the 11 in the 5.5-7.0 bracket.

I can understand your frustration, it can be a pain I'm sure -I don't frequent the RMT thread too much, but can imagine it's headwrecking when people simply leech off advice without giving anything back. But for me making more rules and regulations is a sure fire way to kill the place. let it flow unless someone's being an outright dick. I daresay this is on that could almost self regulate with the regular advice givers copping onto the leeches and stopping giving advice to them.

Interesting but there was no defender in the top 10 points scorer last year and none in the top 30 outside of Chelsea.

    Pickford (Fabianski)
    McAuley, Aké, Trippier, Shaw (Holegate)
    Eriksen, Sané, Pogba (Loftus-Cheek, Walters)
    Jesus, Benteke, Lacazette

    Unsure on the forwards tbh.

Shaw won't be fit for the start of the season seemingly. Also I would be wary of going without Kane. If he starts well his price could start to rise and he's expensive enough already. Would Jesus be a guaranteed starter with Kun?

Also wondered about Tripper myself, have him I'm draft but would he be a guaranteed starter?

Edit : also no Lukaku?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,667 ✭✭✭Klonker

@ MagicIrl I couldn't quote your post for some reason!

Everton have a horrible start, I'd ditch Pickford and Holgate until then.

I like Ake and I'd be all over him at 4.5 but I think 5 is too much, if you want a Bournmouth defender Daniels who's also 5 is better value.

I'd personally wait on Laccacytte to see how he settles, Wenger might ease him in, but he could be worth the gamble but not for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,427 ✭✭✭Shedite27

Yeah I see Holgate in a lot of teams, and understand that he's a cheap way into the Everton defence, but they've a horrible start, unlikely to get any clean sheets for the first month. Might as well go with a 4.5 defender elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,902 ✭✭✭MagicIRL

Could see a clean sheet against Stoke on the opening tbh.

The real debate is in the front three. I now have Lukaku, Pogba and Lidleof in the team but I'm not sure I want to triple stack United.

Pogba is only 8m though, and Lukaku is too expensive to avoid if he starts to rise rapidly.

    Its so complicated already haha

    I've 2 very rough drafts

    a)
    Pickford/ Foster
Cahill, Keane, Trippier, Bellerin,McAuley (who I just see now is flagged)
    Alli, Pogba, Walters, Herrera, Brunt
    Lukaku, Rooney  Firmino

My concerns here- MF a bit weak, no Kane, Rooney is a big risk. Also feel like I've too many WBA players. I could probably downgrade some defenders and strengten MF. I am also unsure about Sanchez, I see alot have him but is he guaranteed to even be at Arsenal at end of transfer window?

Incidentally- I presume when a player transfers out of the league he's just flagged and you need to use a transfer to sell him at the next opportunity?
    or

    b)
    Pickford/Foster
    Cahill, Linfdof, Daniels, Cedric, McAuley
    Alli, Pogba, Walters, Loftus-Cheek, Wanyama
Lukaku, Kane, Gayle (or another 6.5)

I feel this is a bit more balanced though unsure if Wanyama is a guaranteed starter? MF is still weak but attack is stronger so it may make up for it to some extent.

Also I've no Arsenal/Liverpool cover here (or City cover in either)

Any pointers? Also opinions on other GK options would be appreciated. Thinking of Forster as his starting fixtures seem handy.

    Foster
    Ake, Lindelof, Cedric
    KDB, Alli, Wijnaldum, Ritchie
    Kane, Lukaku, Austin

    Elliott, Lascelles, Loftus-Cheek, Rosenior

Wijnaldum will probably be replaced but happy enough with the rest, Don't know if Austin will start.

Any pointers? Also opinions on other GK options would be appreciated. Thinking of Forster as his starting fixtures seem handy.

GK: Have a look at Pickfords fixtures, you might want to rethink him. You can get Myhill for 4.0 giving you the two West Brom goalkeepers which will allow you to upgrade elsewhere.

DEF: Assuming you going to be playing 343 most weeks, you are going to be leaving 2 on the bench each week. Most of us here would aim to spend a bit less on our back line. All of yours are 5.0 or above i think. Might be worth rethinking that and having one or two strong that play most weeks (5.5+) with two or three cheaper options (4.5) that can rotate depending on fixtures. Trippier is a great price, as long as he is first choice, so we'll need to monitor the Walker transfer saga.

MID: Again you can't play all of your front 8, so having a cheap enabler like RLC is a good option. I'm a Spurs fan and Wanyama was a brilliant for us last year, but he's not a good FPL pick, he's a defensive mid who rarely gets goals or assists. Herrera would be close to this also.

ATT: Both look good. Rooney's fixtures aren't great but you never know, point to prove and all that.

Pickford / Foster do not rotate well. Everton have an extremely difficult start would steer clear of defensive options.

    Foster / Fabianski rotate

Southampton / Bournemouth are an alternative

Tripper represents great value IMO now with Walker departure imminent.

Fabregas should start well too in Hazard's absence at 7, I'd be worried about rotation in a few GW's but not for a while I suppose.

I'm having the same conundrum with Citeh players, Silva or Sane in my case, I just think Sane represents better value at 0.5 dearer. Better goal & assist to minutes ratio and finished the season well.

Lacazette could be the last seasons Zlatan, not sure if I wanna take a punt on him and well Rooney is Rooney, as much as I'd love to see it as a Man U fan, I don't think he'll set the world alight for Everton, tough tough start too.

First draft of many many drafts

De Gea / Elliot: De Gea is in as he is guaranteed to start and cheap with Uniteds nice start, Elliot a bench fodder

Tripper/ David Luiz/ Francis/ Cedric/ Long: Tripper is in for Spurs coverage as is David Luiz for Chelsea, the cheapest I could afford. Cedric has a lovely start and rotates well with Francis, Long is in as a bench fodder

Pogba / Tadic / RLC / Walters / Sane: Pogba's in as I think with Uniteds nice start and Lindelof in the team, he'll be more attacking and complement Lukaku, second season too. Tadic is in as Southampton have a lovely start, been burned in the past with him so taking a gamble. RLC is already the favourite 4.5 here as is Walters at 5.5. Sane is in as I mentioned in the post above, i THINK he's a Pep fave and had a great end to the season, City coverage too

Lukaku / Kane / Firmino: Going for Lukaku, he's proven goalscorer, in a relatively better team and I think this step up in club stature will spur him on to be even better. Kane as top PL GS last season, wary of Spurs August slow start and the Wembley effect and Bobby Firmino is nice & cheap in a team that is renowned for scoring goals, he should be at the front and centre of it

Wary over having too much United, no Jesus or Aguero but not sure who'll start, Coutinho be nice to have and if I have Kane, I won't go Alli. Would love Azpi in but sure Luiz had a great defensive record last season.

Last time I went with a premium GK with a cheap bench fodder was with Courtois 2 seasons ago when he was sent off early in the season so wary of history repeating itself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,608 ✭✭✭caviardreams

I have the same frontline Father H - and very similar overall. Sane is my pick from City too - I have Mane over Pogba and like you with United I am wary of too much Liverpool coverage so may change - concerned I have no Chelsea or Arsenal attacking coverage for example, which is the only think I see with yourself too. As a United fan myself, I feel we might still start off slowly but I think Pogba could have a great season, so it's hard to know.

Very, very solid defence there too.

Nice team, Fr H. My only quibble, and its tiny, is that Elliott is proving so popular that he's bound to lose value unless he unexpectedly starts. You might also find it hard to get in Sanchez if he a) starts the season b) does well and c) doesn't go out of the league

I just made your team 50% better

(Apart from that, you've invested a lot in defence. I'd downgrade there and upgrade Iwobi)

    In Rod we Trust.

I'll take a look at the defence over lunch tomorrow.
Who am I kidding, it's Friday, it will be the first thing I do when I get into the office!

    I like this.

    Fabianski Foster
    Trippier Lindelof Cedric Dunk Long
    Sanchez Fabregas Sane Walters RLC
    Lukaku Aguero J-Rod

Lack of Spurs attacking cover is the only worry.

    Foster, Begovic

    Mawson Lindlof Daniels Yoshida Duffy

    Pogba Fabregas Coutinho Ozil Walters

    Lukaku Jesus Mitrovic

It’s amazing how this game sucks you back in so quickly.

Some interesting line-ups here so far – mine is pretty-template-meh-vanilla but will jazz it up no doubt in the coming hours, days, weeks

First draft of many – not 100% happy with Pogba at the moment….will be keeping an eye of pre-season form. Ozil also interchangeable with Alli/Eriksen. Mitrovic interchangeable with anyone of the same price who looks like starting

Also need to do a bit more research on rotating options – I remember Heaton/Foster worked really well last year
