I'm actually mortified by this schoolboy stunt.

I thought the football water carrier throwing the Kerry corner forwards boot away in the game in the park was childish. But funny.

    This was ridiculous.

Looks like we'll have to watch our balls versus Clare!

Indeed. That Clare guy grabbed more balls than Mae West ever did. :D

ridiculous support by clare people for both games at the weekend , highlighted in the paper today , it wont do anything in my opinion to change things ,

in my opinion its a serious problem at this stage , it was like being in the away supporters end at a soccer match last sunday , even the home game against mayo saturday night was a joke , more like a neutral venue the excueses people were useing was it cost too much of it was handier to watch it on telly would make you sick

the excuse for the tipp game saturday week is already in place as cork is too fat to travel and it should be on in limerick

if cost is an issue , i am sure it cost cork or mayo people the same or more to attend this weekends games , also i am sure there televisions were working fine too if they wanted to stay at home

if there is no support for players , then players wont want to play , colin ryan is a perfect example, also the lack of support for the footballers in the past when operating at a similar level to this year, was the reason many players dropped of the panel and concentrated on there clubs

bit too much made of getting an edge over an opposing team in my opinion , this one last sunday is out of the father ted variety , time to contact pj "fingers" o'connell and put him in charge as "sledging coach"

In my opinion the question has to be asked what area the likes of Mayo and Cork doing to get their supporters to travel and see if anything can be implemented here.

It does seem mad to play Clare v Tipp in Cork, as a single-header, when Limerick is more then adequate.

Adds an extra 2 hours to travel time (plus associates costs) for Clare fans.

Limerick would be closer for Tipp fans too I would think

Pretty awful to read Aaron Cunningham's interview in the indo today. Embarrassing stuff as regards the fans. He has a point alright, no doubting that. Tbh I attend as many of the hurling team matches as I can but even I'm dreading the logistics of attending the next one in cork. If I do decide to go, I'll actually be going on my own for the first time ever.... My wife works Saturdays and my brother's in law have decided to watch it on TV....

Some Clare fans are just gone too lazy. I had to go to the Limerick game in Thurles on my own. Everyone making excuses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,189 ✭✭✭opinionated3

I'm not lazy buddy, but thanks for the criticism anyway. I will admit to being angry with the gaa for dragging us down there for a 3pm throw in at one of the most inaccessible stadiums in the country, on a serious shopping day, and when a major music festival is also on in the city. Meanwhile Limerick would have been the logical choice. I couldn't care less how new this stadium is. It's still **** to enter/exit from.....

What, people are lazy because they don't give up 1 of their days off to spend ~6 hours in a car to spend €40 to watch a match just becase they are from Clare or Tipperary? What's in it for the supporters to go? Where's the entertainment? where's the "hook"? Why go to the matach when you can watch it on TV from the comfort of your home? To go to a match will cost someone a lot of money, why go?

I'm a massive fan and go to matches whenever I can but that's cause I'm a bit mad, to call people lazy because they don't go takes the blame from those who are supposed to promote the game. If people have excuses for not going to matches then work on removing the excuses not blaming the people for having excuses.

And what are the excuses for the no show on Sunday in Thurles? First Munster final in 9 years and very small crowd shows up. One of your players has called it out in the media and it clearly affected them. €28 return train from Ennis to Cork and avoid all traffic. But seems to be a lot of excuses going on.

€28 return, assume €35 a ticket for 2 people that's €126 for the day before anything else is factored in (Tipp supporters will bring their own sandwiches after all :D). €126 is a lot of money for a lot of people can you give a reason why someone should give up that much money?

Looking at the train times, you'd be leaving at 11.35 and returning at 21.29, that's just short of 10 hours away from home, can you give a reason why someone should give up that much time?

To answer my own question by the way, my reason for spending the time and money is because I love the GAA and I particularly love Clare GAA but I don't think it's fair to assume that others will have the same level of dedication to following the teams as I do, there has to be a reason to do it and if there isn't a valid reason then I can understand why people don't go

To support your team perhaps? Listen if people don't want to/can't spend the money then that's fine but just say that. Even if the game was in Limerick you'd have the bulk of that cost anyway. But there's something else here. What are the excuses for the Thurles no show? Are you telling me that Clare supporters stayed away due to the cost? First Munster final in 9 years. Not buying it I'm afraid.

It's amazing the way all those concerns evaporate come September :D Personally I think I would be in bits if I missed a Tipp championship game, I have missed two since 1987, we played Down in a qualifier one year and I also missed the Cork qualifier game in Thurles in 2007 as I was on holidays and I still haven't really forgiven her indoors :D

I was there on Sunday so no excuses here. I haven't missed a championship match in years so I think I could be regarded as a decent supporter of Aaron and the lads. As regards the train I'm not interested. Pure and simple. Prefer the privacy of my own car thanks very much. The rest of the fans? I have no idea. I do have this little theory in my head that as a county we are not used to all Ireland success. So when years like 2013 roll around and we go nuts when we win in croker, it's almost like "ah that was super lads..... Monkey is off our back for another few years"!!! Instead of being Brian cody-like and attempting aggressively to win year after year. In other words retaining the fierce hunger for success.
I also believe that the appointment of Maloney and o Connor has failed to capture the imagination of gaa followers in Clare. (I wish them every success and believe they totally deserve a shot at it, despite the recent bad showings). I think if someone like Daly (although I can't stand the guy) or even Anthony Cunningham or Donal o Grady had been appointed they would have galvanised the support a bit better. It's almost like people are EXPECTING the team to flop now, despite the experts telling us that we have some of the most skillful players in the land.
It's all a bit disconcerting and I think Saturday week will be a disaster attendance-wise.... Unfortunately.

I would say that there was the same number of Clare supporters at the 1995 Munster Final as there was on Sunday.

The tickets are 30 euro if bought in advance, so just do that. What price were people expecting? It was never going to be less than 25 anyway

Unfortunately I'd say it could be free in for Clare & Tipp supporters the next day and it'd struggle to sell out.

If it was on in Limerick you would have a lot more Clare people at it, in fact I'd say it'd be a sell out. 20 minutes down the road vs. 2 hours, ffs the Gaelic Grounds is closer to some of the players homes than Cusack Park.

That's not going ahead. First game will be an intermediate hurling championship game on Wednesday night 19th.

Clare crowd didn't go to Thurles for their first Munster final in 9 years so it's wishful thinking that they'd all suddenly show up at a quarter final.
