Need some advice here because the wax/polish/sealant still confuses me, now i have Autoglym super resin polish and AG extra gloss protection, have plenty of it as got 3 gift packs for the price of one at halfords a good while ago, so would like to finish it before looking for something else,
now do i need a wax as the resin is a polish or is this the same thing?
also do i have to use the two every time or can i just top up using the gloss protection?, to be honest don't polish much maybe once or twice a year.
also ran out of Autoglym tar remover can anyone recommend a better product? thks

I've always followed up with EGP (sealant with good protection, but not as long lasting as a wax) or a wax (fusso / collinite) after applying SRP.

Look up detailing shed for all your needs. Tar remover is on there also. You just spray leave for a minute and jet wash off. No rubbing like with auto glym.

So the AG SRP then put on a wax instead of AG gloss protection ?

Yeah, if I'm going for a long lasting durable finish. So once the wash process is done, and the car has been clayed and rid of all contaminants. It's polish, seal / glaze (optional) and wax (machine polish for extra shine). For after care you can use a quick detailer to top up the wax layer.

Did the lazy mans detail yesterday... Just clean the wheels and put tire shine on! The car hasn't been washed in 2 weeks, but at the same time it didn't look too bad either. Opted to just clean the wheels, and my god what a difference it makes!

I'll pay for my sins next weekend with a full wash/polish/wax, but for now it'll have to do!

Popped into Detailing Sheds new place this morning, much more easier to find than the other place.

Didn't need much, just picked up some interior dressing from ODK and some cloths.

Motor hasn't had a good clean in weeks as I've had a skip in the driveway and my first born arrived last week, so God only knows when I'll get a chance to clean it properly.

Mine hasn't had a proper since my first born arrived 4 months ago 😥

Did a full wash wash / decontamination today, was going to put a layer of collinite on but there was a light shower 2 minutes after I'd dried the car.
Should I fire ahead with the wax or wet and dry again first?

Best jet wash off. Then dry then apply 2 thin coats. Will last a very long time.

Lidl have blue precision masking tape this week, €2. Says it's suitable for outdoor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Suitable for outdoors doesn't mean suitable for detailing.
Detailing masking tape is low tack and doesn't risk paintwork if it gets wet. Careful choosing tape for cars....not saying it's not suitable as I've not seen it.

Open end hose to get rid of most of the water.
Then a couple of Microfibers should finish it off for you.

That actually worked a treat - surprised me how much water runs off.

I had a rusty wing replaced with a second hand wing in the same colour as my car so no spraying was required, the colour match is perfect. The panel beater who fitted the wing put a coat of wax on the wing when he fitted it. At the weekend I had a chance to use tardis, iron remover and clay the new wing so now it looks as good as the rest of the car. After applying the tardis, the wax was completely stripped off the wing which lead me to wonder how to remove tar from paint that has been treated with a coating of crystal serum and EXO?
I plan to get a coating of CSL and EXO on the car at some stage but wouldn't like to destroy it with tar remover.

I would try some petrol or paint thinners. It should dissolve most of the stuff applied, might require a second wipe down to be sure.

Is that an answer to my question above?

Gtechniq have a tar remover that is safe on all their coatings.

Is this not an absolute bargain:
    Meguiars Deluxe Car Car Kit
Down from €70 to €42 and available on a 3-for-2 offer. Works out at €28 per kit if buying three.

    I tried my 3 new purchases ,
Carpro Tar X, found this very good, started to react straight away unlike Autogylm tar remover which i have been using.

Bilt Hamber Auto wash,it did cleaned the car , not sure if any different from Autogylm bodywork shampoo which i have.

Bilt Hamber Auto wheel, was a bit disappointed with this, sprayed on dry wheels,
wheels not cleaned for 2 weeks just brake dust really ,sprayed on, left for 3 mins, wheels went purple, then hosed off, still brake dust on wheels(streaks), so then i washed the car with Bilt Hamber auto wash, cleaned them with sponge, then rinsed off with hose like i normally do, did i leave it on long enough or maybe not enough sprayed on, was careful with it because of warning not to spray on plastic caps, not sure? it would have been just as clean using sponge only.

I would always use my wheel woollies to agitate the wheels when using BH. I know that the label doesn't state this but I get better results when I do.

I have found it to be the best wheel cleaner that I have used.
