Thanks Ronnie-I am only at the very beginning of learning to look after the car so I appreciate the advice. Where would you usually buy APC and IPA? That must have been some pain to get it on your paintwork, especially after all the work you put into it-but hopefully you will get it sorted soon.

Re APC - I use Bilt Hamber Surfex HD, it's one of the best out there. Get it from detailingshed.com.

You'll pick up IPA in any chemist.

    100% Agree with surfex HD
Never would I be without it
While you are picking up theat in D.S. Just pick up a bottle of Carpro Eraser as well. You wont need IPA with this.
    it is super stuff.

I have the correct regime in my head now-sound for the advice. Just one thing I need to check- how long do I cure it for when I apply it to the diffuser and grille?

I can't remember exactly how long I left the Dlux on my wheels when I did them 2 years ago, but as far as I recall it was less than a minue. Much less before buffing them.

Depends on conditions, but for example, indoors or on a dry day between 15-20 degress, approx 1 minute.
So if you were doing a diffuser, by the time you apply it to the whole of it, it would be time to return to the place you started and begin to buff.
On the grilles, progess will be slower, so do it section by section.

    Hi all,
Have a 142 rav 4 and am wondering what to use to polish the black bit between the windows on drivers door and the rear door, it seems neither plastic or paint?

Also, there are two silver roof rails with a finger print on one, would ordinary polish be too severe on it?

    Thanks.

    I plink therefore I am

Has anyone here replaced the gauze in a snow foam lance? There are plenty of videos online showing how to do it but they all use a bench vice which I don't have. Is the vice really necessary or would I be able to get the job done without it?

I have done it with adjustable wrenches.
Be careful of the knuckles though ..!!

Hi all, anyone noticed its gotten very quiet these days.

I'm in the same boat. I just don't have the time. The shortening evenings mean that the weekend is the only time I can get stuff done outside and I've other things to do in the garden and around the house.

I can see the detailing jobs piling up outside but I can't get to them.:(

    +1 Mea culpa also.

Work, other things etc means that the car is taking a back seat (see what I did there:D) for the moment.

I'll be asking Santa for the Microfibre Madness Incredipole (and if that doesn't work, I'll ask Santa when will the bloody thing be on sale as I hear the Chemical Guys Wash Mop can break at the flexible joint where the pole goes on)......

On that note....recently informed that they are availabe at last. Will be placing an order for Microfiber Madness in the next week or two.

Great - Stick me down for one full kit anyway and a Dry-me-Crazy XL. You can guess why.

A wax would give some protection, but depending on the type it may not last the full winter - sealants are generally more durable...say 2-3 months protection from a wax, more like 3-4 from a sealant.

You also have the option of a quick detailer type spray sealant - if you think you'll manage to wash the car once or twice during the winter; some of these offer decent durability, but with the advantage of being very easy to use - spray on, buff off, job done!

I've heard that the OCD Alien/Nebula waxes give an unreal shine. Where can I get these and which of the OCD waxes are best? I'll be applying it over some Collinite that has been on the car about 6 weeks now.

Tip: Old socks are useful for buffing tyre dressing.

    You've heard right! I've used a lot of waxes and sealants and never got as glossy a finished as I got from Nebula. Here's a pic after my first application of it;

It is a show wax so longevity isn't it's thing, you'll get 7 to 8 weeks applied onto clean paint.

There's an enormous amount of love over on Detailingworld.com for OCD waxes, it's well deserved in my opinion. You can order direct from them here - https://ocd-waxes.myshopify.com/

It must be noted that the preparation is far more important than the product applied. Putting the glossiest product on a car thats not prep'd well, is just pi$$ing into the wind.

The OCD waxes are highly regarded, and as you can see, but Ronnie's picture, a very well prep'd car when a show wax is applied, it does give that extra bit of pop. These type of show waxes are, as said, not too durable, and this time of year, I'd expect quite a short period of maximum return. It will show signs of deterioration quickly (but it will still be there). ODK Glamour would be a similar show wax...they are much softer and easier to apply than regular waxes which are aimed to give a bit more durability.

Hey guys, trying to get the ball rolling to start cleaning properly. What can I use to preclean if I don't have access to a pressure washer? I bought a portable 5L garden manual pump pressure washer for rinsing off but it's crap, €20 down the drain! Only plus side is the water lasts as opposed to using a bucket.

Apparently the car was coated in the LifeShine protection. I have a big kit of Auto Glym stuff, it has a wheel cleaner, tyre dressing, body shampoo and liquid wax among other things. Am I ok to just get an additional precleaner and some quality mitts and towels?

Will this be ok for now? I don't know if the wheel cleaner removes iron, but I'll probably pick up a proper fallout remove in a few months when I get tar remover and other bits. I know the Auto Glym stuff isn't great, but I was hoping it would be ok to do the job for now, then I'll get some better stuff when the stuff I have runs out.

I also need to get a wheel brush, they're quite expensive
