I wasn't getting at Shanley personally and I know he is a hurling man, but the impression I get is that his hands are pretty much tied, alot of politics involved at that level and I'm sure as part of the voting 'agreements' that got him the gig there were pretty strict conditions attached.

It's not a personality or individual problem, the reality is that Hurling will always play second fiddle in Dublin and of course that is their perogative but I find it rather ironic when they then cry foul about the injustices inflicted on their hurlers.

Do you not find it strange and very convenient that there wasn't a mig out if anyone from Dublin until the next day and tickets were already sold so nothing could be done, my own opinion is that this was a statement made to affect any future decisions and had very little to do with the incident at hand, a bit like the Connolly incident and Gavin trying to influence future decisions.

There is a full round of adult hurling league matches scheduled for Saturday night in Dublin. Surely they will be called off to allow supporters to travel to Thurles.

I think Dublin are in a better position for Saturday than the bookies odds would suggest.

They'll be under no pressure at all as people expect Tipperary to win handily and they have the added little motivational boost of having been "wronged"* by the choice of venue.

Galway ran out comfortable winners in the end against Dublin but the first half was tough enough and Dublin's sheer doggedness and physicality was causing Galway some real issues . If they can bring that to Thurles and keep the game tight until half time I could see Tipperary getting a bit jittery like last week.

I'm not convinced Dublin will win but I think they'll be closer than the nine point handicap.

*Wronged felt like the best choice of word there. It's a poor situation for Dublin to be in but a double header in Thurles does feel like the right choice for these matches.

They would surely be called off it was the other code, but you wait and see, those games will go ahead without doubt. Lip service is all that is paid to hurling.

Think the county board are leaving it to clubs to agree between themselves to reschedule

    Pretty poor alright.

I actually agree with you that Dublin probably aren't as big of outsiders as the bookies have them (8/1 with Powers, I'd suggest somewhere around 6s would be fairer) but I still expect Tipp to win comfortably enough. There seems to be issues in the Tipp camp and they weren't hectic against Westmeath but they just have far better hurlers than Dublin. Simple as that.

However I would disagree with you about Dublin putting it up to Galway. At no stage was that a contest to be honest, some wayward Galway shooting probably meant the game wasn't put to bed as early as it should have been but in truth Galway were totally dominant from the first whistle.

The fact that I as a Galway man was actually disappointed when Dublin had a man sent off as I knew it would end all possibility of the game being any way enjoyable as a contest should tell you all you need to know about that match.

Killinan Terrace is the only tickets available online now for the hurling qualifiers on Saturday and the Munster Final Sunday.

I also think it may be close(ish) but that's more down to the fact that Tipp are so unconvincing at the moment rather than anything Dublin have done.

There's no doubt Tipp are a bit vulnerable but there's no evidence to suggest that Dublin will be good enough to fully capitalise on that. Dublin have gone backwards under Ger Cunningham and Tipp will probably get through this one without necessarily being at their best.

I still wouldn't write Tipp off as All-Ireland contenders but they will need to find their mojo pretty soon or they will be gone.

Didn't matter in this round who is drawn first.
Second round qualifier games are neutral venues.
    (well supposed to be anyway)

Ah right, cheers. I get the neutral thing but I'd read a lot about Dublin giving up a home tie in Parnell, which is strange considering it was never on the table at all.

    Who said that?

When they say 'Dublin gave up home advantage' they don't mean that Dublin originally had home advantage, it's more that they have allowed Tipp have the home advantage.

'Giving up home advantage' is an odd way of putting it.
True, it's a strange turn of phrase seeing as the Dubs didn't have much choice in matter.

What way does the draw work for the semi.final and quarter final.

Can all the teams meet each other again or is there a restriction. For example can cork and Tipp meet again at quarter and semi final stages.

Repeat pairings are avoided at quarter final stage if possible.

The provincial finalists are kept apart for definite. Eg Wexford will not play Munster runners up in the QF. Galway will not play the Munster champs in the SF.

After that repeat pairings are avoided if possible. In answer to your question cork could play tipp in the QF if they lose Munster and tipp and Waterford win the R2 qualifier as there would be a draw between those two teams to see who played cork and Wexford as both had previously played cork

Full time: Tipperary 6-26 Dublin 1-19

Massive moral boost for Tipp team and supporters.

Waterford 2 up after 5mins. Playing a 1 man up top condensing midfield. Looks like this is going to be a tight edgey game. May not open up Id say.

12 week ban coming for Cody with the hands on the linesman there :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,397 ✭✭✭letowski

Kilkenny will need to think their way through this of they want to will. 2 lousy points after 23mins in another clueless show from their forwards. Need to be smarter and sharper with their usage of ball to beat this packed Wat backline.

Kk look like they will be put out of their misery this year.

Not a chance. They got away without a yellow for throwing the hurl and for the foul leading up to the goal also. Even at this stage they operate under a different set of rules

Don't think Lennon actually threw the hurl, he just lost grip off it when trying to dispossess Gleeson.

But yes should have been a yellow card for sure for Murphy.

He couldn't book Lennon for that in fairness after letting a Waterford player away with it earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,397 ✭✭✭letowski

I think Cody's forward play and stategy isnt right, but its a mute point anyway when your touch and striking is so far off. For mid July there is no excuse. Its most surprising given Cody knows the demands of a hurling season like no other. I dont know what to say tbh.

He wasn't even in a position to tackle. He slapped across the shoulder and let go off the hurl at the same time. Could have got yellow for either offence

Both teams seem afraid to lose rather than go win it. Waterford seem to be just a bit better but they could have killed off the game by now.

I haven't seen a Kilkenny team so jittery before. Dropped balls, misplaced passes and missed frees.

KK have their backs against the wall now so they have to come out guns blazing and fight back. They have a history of coming back so I expect a massive second half.

Can Waterford get over the line? Will KK come flying back like they have in the past?

Knock out stuff is the most exciting!!
