I've heard Bring Me the Horizon and All Time Low a good few times on SPIN 1038. Two bands Nova never bother playing.

They never heard of them probably....😊

The former are an ex-metalcore band who have gone in a more melodic direction in recent years; the latter are a pop punk band from Baltimore who are massive in the US. I've heard them a couple of times on SPIN but never once Nova; BMTH's song was called "Oh No". Both bands have also gotten a fair amount of airplay on BBC Radio 1.

Yes Tony and Pat did them on The Friday and Sunday nights of the Bruce gig and if I remember correctly Sinead did the AC/DC

There wasn't . Tony & Pat played tracks by those artistes but no show was devoted to them.

As there were Collins giveaways on Sunday apparently ( I couldn't listen) , it's fair to assume that the programme had the co-operation of either a record company or a promoter .

To me it was a serious mistake by Nova and maybe the first show of his hand by new PD - Colm Hayes .

I'd say PJ was pulled for last night only, due to the fact that Phil Collins had played. Perhaps if some big rock group were to play on some Sunday, it could turn out to be the same story as last night. Don't worry, I'm sure that PJ is safe!

If it was BMTH or All Time Low playing the Aviva d'you reckon Nova would have an afterparty show for them?

If they were as famous as Phil Collins, maybe. But seeing as a lot of people haven't even heard of them, then they prob wouldn't be playing the Aviva :D

Listen to a bit of their stuff - bit to boybandy melodic singing for my taste. Asked a few people about them and they never heard of them either. At this stage, Peter Devlins show would be the only place you'd hear of someone new like that.

I've definitely heard them on SPIN but not Nova. Another such band is You Me at Six. Heard them on SPIN on occasion but not Nova.

The question was there a Post Party for the Bruce and AC/DC gigs for which there was not dedicated programs !

Why do you think it is a serious mistake by the new PD as proved above it is normal procedure for a post party after big gigs !

And if they did play them, you would be moaning that Nova is going after the Spin teenage pop audience.

Are they popular..??...dont think i've heard these on Nova yet.....:pac:

This post gig party thing smells of desperation imo.....

In other words, they would be a turn off to most of Nova's listeners so? They are still rock bands.

Its clear thats exactly what Nova are doing anyway.....

Just stop listening. I don't understand the mentality here. It's utterly bizarre. If you don't listen, then the playlists, the presenters, the cheesy promos, the Phil Collins after party - it all just goes away. It's utterly baffling to me, but I'm very, very glad I don't understand it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,984 ✭✭✭Max Headroom

But I love the moaning..it's what forums are for..:)...and especially as it seems to irritate you so much...I think it's utterly bizarre and baffling that you ever joined in in this thread in the first instance......are you employed by nova..?

    Nailed it.
    are you employed by nova..?

Ah ffs. Again with this bollocks?

In fairness, Max Headroom is pretty much a one-man party political broadcast against Nova.

Take their "contributions" to the thread out and it's much more balanced.

He's just a bit annoyed that they won't playlist Tax the Heat, the Temperance Movement or the Record Company. Or BMTH. Or All Time Low...

If SPIN had existed in 1982 or so its playlist would not have been that much different to what Nova often plays. Except with a bit of Madonna, Michael Jackson or Lionel thrown in...

Yeah, but then Branners and Hayes would be getting away with it....and I ain't prepared to do that....and anyway I,m sure it annoys the sh1t out off them to think someone thinks they're doin a disservice to their listeners...
I know I go on a bit :) but when I remember The Rock and how we were led to believe Nova would be the same but with dj's and a few ad's.....how nieve was I....

    Getting away with what?

    Getting away with what?

Playing the same crap all the time, hosting "special" programmes that nobody wants to listen to, playing hipster "rock", the witty banter.

I'm not putting words in Max's mouth here - it's what I am against what Nova are getting away with.

    Oh, and tooooooo much U2!

last year they were slagging off Phil Collins, this year they're playing him up how great it will be to see him in concert etc, they wont play any song by Adele, (one or two are good, Phantom played "Rolling in the deep" first) but they'll play Crocodile rock by Elton John, just because of who he is, and that is one sh**e song for a "rock station" to play.

And Siobhain pronounces the G in GallaGher as in when she talks about Liam and Noel GallaGeh.:D

I feel the playlist has improved somewhat. I haven't noticed myself saying "hang on, this doesn't belong here" as much, like I did this time last year. Although maybe it's just me.
I take this back. I hear that Heathens is back on the playlist. Stop playing hip-hop on a rock station!

Its "classic" rock crown slipped off a good while ago, now its "rock" replacement tiara is gone too....pretty soon it'll be just another mediocre music station...

Whoop-dee-feckin-doo! Yet another after party to look forward to :( And because of it we'll miss Alice Cooper. If it was for a decent rock band I'd be ok. But bloody Coldplay!!!! They are as rock as a lump of used toilet paper.

Give that man a cigar :D

Between the after parties and the ticket walkies this last week, the station is really stretching. And would bet all I own that there will be a U2 party. As if they don't play way too much of them already :(
