No I didn't miss the point, I think the point is silly.

Kicking etc is against the rules of boxing. That should be enough.

When have you ever heard of a fight contract mentioning things that are already covered in the rules? Especially when he guy doesn't have a history of fighting dirty?

Ive never heard of anyone in boxing putting it in the contract that their opponent needs to stop fighting at the end of each round. Or their opponent can't punch them in the nuts. There's no need for it.

My point being if the Mayweather camp are going to these unnecessary lengths then they may have gone over every detail of the promotion also, banning discussion of various things.
The above actually proves you've missed the point.
Yes, kicking is already banned under the rules. If Conor kicks him, he'd be DQ'd. But the clause has nothing to do with the outcome of the fight.
If Conor gets DQ'd, he still walks away a millionaire. He then gets hit with a fine from NSAC. Potential legal action, etc. He'd struggle to get licensed again. There's no way it would happen regardless of the clause.

The clause isn't there to stop him doing it, it's there so that if it bizarrely did happen then Floyd gets buckets of money instead of the NSAC. Cost him nothing to put in it.
I hope Conor's inspected the wording of it carefully so as to exclude legitimate DQ's.

A rather sombre and timely warning about the potential damage that McGregor could take against Floyd.

So the two big hopes so far are that McGregor will bring up a domestic violence case at a press conference and that he'll feint a kick. Those are the two big weapons he has so far.

Why would either of these things be impressive? What would be funny about McGregor bringing up a real incident which Floyd was charged for?

Feinting a kick in a boxing match? If this has any influence on Floyd Mayweather he should be a little bit embarrassed. He's one of the greatest boxers of all time with an incredible understanding of the ring and all movements in the ring. If McGregor is hanging his hope on pretending to throw a kick well then this match up is even more ridiculous than I thought.

The build up to this fight will either be very boring or very fake. Mayweather and McGregor have just given each other 9 figure pay days. They don't dislike each other, surely they actually really like each other. I know I'd have a lot of time for anyone who helped me earn 100 million.

Of course this doesn't sell so they have to create a rivalry. They're from different sports though so they don't actually have any basis for a rivalry. It will be completely faked the whole time. McGregor will probably show up in similar states that he did or 205 and 196 press conferences. I doubt Mayweather will say much to be honest. His money is made already. Let McGregor do the promotion and earn his big payday, because if he's holding out on fronted kicks to help him in the fight he surely won't earn it in the ring.

Hang on a sec - McGregor hasn't said anything about feigning a kick or bringing up domestic abuse charges.

And who says they are his two biggest weapons.. I mean, other than you?

I think his "big weapons" might be that he is a phenomenal mma fighter (fact) in his prime (fact) with unprecedented success in that sport (fact) with an ability to get in his opponent's head before a fight (fact)?

Nothing to do with that then?

    Nope?

    Okay - carry on then.

And before you call me a fan boy or anything like that, I don't believe he will win the fight.. but if by a f**king miracle that he does, I will admit I was wrong on here and look forward to all other boardsies magnanimously doing the same.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

Him being in his prime is the only relevant factor you mentioned. His MMA career and achievements mean nothing here and as for getting in a guy's head, Floyd has been doing that back when McGregor still had spots on his face.

    Really?

So with me being in my prime at the moment, I have the same chance as McGregor then by that rational...

well according to most here McGregor would get battered by an average boxer, and so would I.

The quoted post said his MMA career would be irrelevant - my point clearly was and is that his career IS relevant.

McGregor has more chance than the man on the street, that's obvious, but still next to no chance.

Like saying a man that can run the mile in 5 minutes has more chance than the man that can run it in 7 minutes if he meets Mo Farrah over a mile....

An average boxer? You mean pro boxer? Yes, an average pro boxer would make mince meat of Conor in the ring. More impressively/viciously than Floyd, because Floyd will likely play is safe to a degree, yet still be very dominant.

I said this before that Floyd's style is the best one for Conor(in terms of real hurt being dished out), as well as him being the one that will generate huge money.

Absolutely agree - I've already said that a couple of posts above. But (and I won't mention it again) saying his MMA career is irrelevant is completely illogical.

Anyway - I can tell you everyone I talk to has an opinion on it. It will be a massive earner for both and I do hope McG does it. I cannot see it happen, in fact I think Mayweather will toy with him, but I would love to be proved wrong

Owen Roddy, Audie Attar, and Leonard Ellerbe (Floyd's manager) are all on the MMA hour today, I wonder what they'll be talking about :pac:

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 7,269 ✭✭✭Gamebred

Expect the hardsell from Ellerbe, I've noticed even Floyd has been bigging McGregor up as a striker, knows hes involved in a miss match and is trying to sound worried.

Hey, I am with you. If it's an above board fight I would love nothing more than a fluke hail mary KO win for Conor, if just for the hell of it. Some others want it for that reason too.

One thing I don't want, and I don't see it here or anywhere to be honest, is for Conor to be hurt and physically humiliated. How anyone could want that is sad.

In saying this, those close to him, his loved ones and his close team, what are their views here? I know I wouldn't be supportive of it from a caring side....

Whatever about MMA fights (where he is a competitor who is a specialist at the sport) I cannot understand how anyone close would be promoting or supportive of this endeavor he is embarking upon.

I don't know, maybe many close to him are against it and worried. I just haven't heard any vocal voices of concern.

I can't see the press conferences being as entertaining as some think, Mayweather has politician like ability for avoiding questions/points put to him and answering questions he hasn't been asked. McGregor will try to wind him up but can see Mayweather just smile through it then talk about how much money he has as usual

Not all his achievements are relevant...... but some of them undoubtedly are, particularly with regards to his punching power.

He will surely have to adjust his style dramatically when facing Floyd but as we seen from how Conor approached the second Diaz fight, he is very much capable of doing just that. Boxing is a much different discipline for sure and I personally only give the guy a punchers chance (in the early rounds... after that it's plain sailing for Floyd) but to suggest that what he has shown so far will mean nothing when he steps in that ring is quite frankly, ridiculous. As ridiculous as anyone saying he has a great chance of winning.

2 fights with Floyd and Chino became a rich obese dude, hope Conor doesnt follow this blue print.
