MI5/MI6 say they have 1,000 people in the UK currently on their watch-lists, with some 200 of them being the highest risk.

To conduct 24/7 surveillance of just 1 target involves 30 detectives/operatives. That's just 30 people to trail them 24/7 in shifts.

On top of that 30 people who are physically surveilling 1 single target, you've got dozens others involved in obtaining warrants, intelligence gathering etc.

No police force in the world can keep track of all those suspects - not even the FBI with 35,000 agents, even they can't track all their targets 24/7/365.

What all police forces have to do is use intelligence, informants and judgement to track the ones at highest risk.

It's physically and financially impossible to do it and all it takes is one of the lower risk people on their lists suddenly deciding to act.

Mi5 in 2015 spent more monitwring dissidents than anyone else

Why can they not distribite the photos/names to all the police officers.....they are obviously not able to stop the attacks??

Whats the point of informers and risk catorgising if they going about blowing up kids and not be stopped?

Simply put mi5 havnt the foggiest whats going on and are bluffing....even the day of the 7/7 terror attacks after it....they lost the suspect they were watching and ended up shooting some innocent brazilian over it

There is some amount of Donkeys on this thread.

I hope 75% of you aren't actually grown men because that would be embarrassing.

Distribute 1,000 photos nationwide and say what? "If you see this Muslim man with a bomb strapped on them give us a shout?"

You can't arrest people for taking a stroll around Tesco, if they have no intent on committing a crime.

A very very small fraction of people on that list have committed an actual crime or have any intention of doing so.

To use a similar example, let's say 1,000 people back in the day up North believed the IRA was right to bomb the Brits and discussed among their friends violent ideology. Only 2 or 3 might end up actually joining the IRA and bombing anyone.

Ultimately though, bottom line, if someone is willing to die in order to kill, it's hard to stop them. All they have to do is get in a car and mow people down. Grab a kitchen knife or meat cleaver and go mad. Rig a pressure cooker or improvised devise etc.

And still nobody shows some balls on the issue of immigration and blocks the influx of Muslims into European countries, everyone passes the buck.

They think it's the work of one man.

My husband is Muslim and we have 3 kids who are the same ages as the kids at that concert. I haven't told him yet about the concert but he will be devastated. He will also feel the repercussions over the following days as people take their anger out on him as he goes about his daily life even though we live in Dublin far away from the bombing

So whilst people sling mud at eachother on this thread.
Let's get serious for a second. 22 people dead. I seen a 7 year old girl die tonight, the scared look on her face, her parents not around. And goons on this thread are more concerned with scoring points for their agendas. Show some respect.

If they are having a 0.2% success on their list

They are either incompetent or doing a gaurds on drink driving tests....plain flat out lying

They havnt a clue what's going on,because they just don't know....their list is nonexistent

A group of lone wolves are running rings around them...I dont see why they should be above scrutiny.....they still dunno if it's a suicide bombing or not??

Your knowledge is sketchy at best.

The mess in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria is mostly down to Western Intervention and proxy wars.

The "guys carrying out these attacks" kill 100 times as many Muslims as they do non-Muslims.

To paint this as Islam v Christianity/The West is nonsense. They're fruitcakes who will kill anybody, mostly 'their own', to pursue power.

Please tell me who your term "they're" refers to.

Tell me so I will have no doubt who the fruitcakes are.

thanks, no, seriously please let me know

Murderers who believe they can indiscriminately kill to achieve twisted aims. Basically every terrorist group in the region.

I think anyone who believes murder is acceptable to achieve their ends is a fruitcake.

    Not controversial is it?

If you have a bag of 5 apples. 4 good 1 bad.

Will you take a chance eating 1 without knowing which 1 is bad?

No you wouldn't, it's human nature. Unfortunately that's the way people think and things like this only make it worst.

Jesus Christ. RIP to all those victims. Those who witnessed it will be affected for the rest if their lives.

Imho some of the content on this thread is the same ould bullshít that gets wheeled out every time there is an attack. I'd prefer it if ye took it over to the Paris thread and continued the same tired arguments which avoid logic and resolve nothing whilst trying to score points.

Those who carried out the attack are fücking cowards and not all Muslims are the same. Two basic and simple facts that cannot be disputed.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

Perhaps first time I've seen cannabalism suggested as a solution

Do you think they were born murderers, or did they get involved with a certain ideology to become that way?

The trauma of witnessing and surviving this tragedy.... I just really hope they can get the professional help they will now need because this will shape their entire lives.

Similar comments apply to the doctors and nurses and police officers on duty tonight. I know it's their job but they're not robots, this sort of carnage with children blown to bits will stay with them for a long time.

I really hope they'll all be offered every help and support possible through this.

I'm afraid this idea of not painting people with the one brush is as dangerous as anything anyone can do in response. It distracts, seeks to soften, and seeks to lessen the level of the problem.

How many times in history were the silent majority not relevant?

Don't let it stop you that we don't even know where the bomber was from yet.
