World service Highs so far - Espn and death of live sport, kens political show, Corbyns Liverpool, GAA history, Dortmund terror attack and anything US Murph (not everyone's cup of tea). Well worth the sub.

A small gripe but why do they keep plugging Richie and players chair so much. I find him grating to be honest. Am I heartless since he did lay himself bare on the players chair with Niall Quinn. I know transitioning from full time pro to civilian life must be challenging but wtf ..... suicide? Take a trip to Aleppo and see some real suffering.

Know plenty find Richie hard work but that's an idiotic statement.

Nothing sanctimonious about finding that comment assinine.

Oh, wow, Player's Chair with Anthony Daly?

Ooh, I'm looking forward to that.

17 minutes into the players chair before I delete it! I like Richie, but that was boring. I'm not a gaa fan, but thought it might be good regardless

Signed up to the world service just under a month ago and, so far, I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Just disappointed I got the Jurgen Klopp sketch in my pack! :P

It's overtaken Football Weekly as my 'go-to' football pod and looking forward to their GAA coverage over the summer.

Funny that, I'm the opposite. I enjoy listening to Richie on the SC pod and on RTE Champion's League shows. I think what you see is what you get with him, which was compounded by the Niall Quinn episode.

If Richie's reading this all I would say be careful not to veer into Jarleth Regan territory by making every part of the conversation about himself. It's the guests I want to hear from.

Listened to the latest 'Player's Chair' with Anthony Daly.

I like Richie and it's clear that he makes people feel very comfortable when talking to them but he's still a very raw interviewer at this stage.

He tends to relate things to himself an awful lot and the interview can often veer of course and make it about him. His Niall Quinn interview was fantastic and was able to lay it all out there but that won't work all the time.

Like I say, he's still early days into interviewing people and I'm sure he'll take constructive criticism on board and he'll certainly be taking tips from McDevitt along the way.

Other than that, another pretty solid week of content. I've pretty much skipped all of the politics podcasts because I'm not looking for anything too heavy at the end of the week but that's just me.

The interview with Declan Murphy is probably one of the most amazing interviews I've ever listened to. Had to remind myself to breathe at one stage.

I thought that was interesting too, until he basically said that asking for help was weak. What was it he said exactly? That asking for help means you've relieved yourself of responsibility to sort yourself out or something like that? I thought it was a dreadful message to send out. It couldn't have been more jarring when compared to the conversation Richie had with Niall Quinn the following week.

As much as I dislike John Terry, they made way to big a deal about kicking the ball out on 26 minutes in a meaningless game.

I agree to an extent. I think the way they related gambling in football to the incident was a bit over the top. Nevertheless, I think they were entirely justifed to give Terry a good mocking, the hubris of the man is unbelievable! Ken's portrayal of him departing in a longboat was hilarious too! :D

No way, I was looking forward to Kens reaction and he didn't disappoint

Terry deserves every bit of abuse he's getting over it.

There are no meaningless games - at the very least you have the away support who paid money and travelled 100s of kms to attend the John Terry gratification show, unbeknownst to themselves when they decided to attend.

Fingers crossed he doesnt stay in the league and fecks off to China.

Might be fun though if he's lost it and racks up the red cards/OGs with Swansea or whoever...

Apologies - My comments on "feeling suicidal - go look at a war zone" were indeed assinine (had to look that up which is telling).

Not happy with the vhi ads. Thought this was as free broadcasting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 319 ✭✭postsnthing

Haven't heard the ads yet but that is definitely going against what they had said from the outset. Considering the money they are pulling in and the good will they have built up i'm really surprised, the non special shows (players chair and kens world thingy) have been getting a bit samey and really need a mix up, im starting to think i have better things to spend E74 a year on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

Yeah it's coming up to cancel time of month. Might quit for a week and see if I miss it. Probably will with football weekly going for the summer.

Then again it will prob be mostly gaa all summer on SC.

what pod was the vhi ad in? I must have not paid enough attention to it to notice.

I had a backlog on of pods since last week. Could have been any from weds onwards, but I think it was yesterday's.

I've been getting ads for VHI on my app for my American podcasts. Think it might be the app rather than the podcasts

Oh sugar. I'll check that out. What app are you using. Using podcast addict myself.

Do you use pocket cast? I noticed that a British football podcast (The football ramble) which I listen to had Irish vhi ads on, which I thought was odd. Is it the app that's adding these?

I've listened the past few days and heard no ads. I'd say it is your app alright.
