    Eh?

Ellis and lehane were their best two players! Horgan had his best game from play in ages and cahalane was as good as I've seen him

This was miles better than anything cork have produced in years. "Not significantly better"??

Now it remains to be seen whether they can push on yet but there are great signs there. Some outstanding young players. Haven't seen as good a half back line performance since Gardiner Curran and Sean og in their heyday

No doubt they hurled well but as I said in the Tipp thread, the Tipp half forward line scored 12 points from play off them and they set up a few more. They wont be able to cough up that sort of score going forward.
It was some game though, fair play to Cork. With the sweeper looking like its run its course, what a championship we have to look forward to!

It's not that unlikely. Improbable but stranger things have happened

    Example?
Well we are 33% of the way there now. Cork to beat Waterford which is more likely than Cork beating Tipp. Limerick to beat Clare which happens around 50% of the time when Clare and Limerick meet each other over last 20 years.
Looking more possible now, isnt it?

From talking to any Cork person, they were anticipating a bit of a beating. The fact that they played extremely well, beat the AI champions in their own ground in a quality game, they've every right to celebrate.

I thought I noticed the grass was particularly long down here recently!

Both semis are realistically 50/50 games which is what you want but I think the winners of Cork Waterford will win the province. Cork have shown that they are a lot better than most people gave them credit for. Waterford held back a lot in the league too. Winning a semi is important because there will be two big teams in the qualifiers. Gun to my head I think Waterford will win Munster but I certainly wouldn't be putting money on it because this time yesterday I would have being saying Tipp! I still think Tipp will win the All Ireland.

Qualifiers will be interesting now! Could be like 2013 again with Wexford possibly being a dark horse like we were back then. Dublin won't be at races unfortunately given all the cr@p that is going on.

Tipp ran up a big score but like league final I thought they seemed a bit rusty in the forwards and deployed some strange tactics at times. Great pass from Callanan for the goal and some nice points but overall he was well marshalled.

No doubt Tipp will improve but there will be some serious teams in the first round of qualifiers, including perhaps the old enemy! That would be some game!

They had just seen their team, loaded with rookies, who hadn't won a game in the Munster Championship in 3 years defy the odds and beat the AI champions, and the old enemy in their own back yard and done so playing nice pacey easy on the eye hurling, it would be an awful reflection of hurling if they didn't celebrate it.

almost sure this is the way the system works ??

Prem round takes place Sat 24th June with Carlow/Antrim vs A defeated Leinster QF team

    Munster
    Tipp
    Clare or Limerick
    Waterford or Cork
    1x of Laois/Westmeath/Offaly/Carlow/Antrim

    Leinster
    Dublin or Galway
    Kilkenny or Wexford
    2x of Laois/Westmeath/Offaly/Carlow or Antrim

    Round 1 (Sat 1st July)
4x Munster vs 4x Leinster (no repeat pairings)

    Round 2 (Sat 8th July)
Round 1 Winner vs Round 1 Winner
Round 1 Winner vs Round 1 Winner (no repeat pairings)

    QFS (Sun 23rd July)
Round 2 Winner vs Beaten Munster Finalist
Round 2 Winner vs Beaten Leinster Finalist

have heard round 1 will no be an open draw and is not divided up by provenices ???.

could be some tasty matches in the qualifers, nobody will want a trip to places like Wexford Park, Thurles, Nowlan Park, Walsh Park etc

Presumably Tipp, or Cats if Wexford beat them, will beat first round opponents. That would set it up for second round possibly? As you say, some really good matches in prospect given seeming closeness of 6/7 teams.

As Dub am just really depressed that in a year when that is the case that we have shot ourselves in the bollix. Excuse the French :)

Tipp vs Kilkenny could be a first round match. Draw should take place on the 19th June

Cunningham could be gone from Dublin this year and ye will surly attract a big name manager to take over ???. Derek Mcgrath is rumoured to be finished with Waterford this year, Donal Og Cusack might move on from his Clare role ???. I really thought Davy was going to sit out 2017 and then take over the Dubs in 2018 but its looking very unlikely now

How do you mean shot yourself in the bollox ?

The whole business about players refusing to play for GC. Getting to be a joke at this stage.

And worse again is that only thing we have a shot at is 21s and they're playing Kilkenny Wednesday after the Galway game. 21s management be nearly better not allowing any of them play for the seniors.

Cunningham like any other manager is open to criticism but it is on scale of undeclared strike at this stage. He'll be gone for sure but can't see big queue for the job!

Cork beating Tipp was a great result for the Munster Championship and ensures a more interesting AI semi final line-up. Tipp have been too dominant in Munster over the last 10 years. All 4 semi finalists will really think we can win, it has actually really got me excited about 2 weeks time. All be it Limerick probably longest odds.
But I would not get too ahead of myself. I thought Tipp looked sluggish again last Sunday and I thought Cork were humming. Yet it was a tight game. Cork played some great stuff but was this their peak, will they be as good against Waterford? For me, it was similar to Limerick v Tipp in Thurles in 14. We were buzzing that day, 5 yards ahead of Tipp for everything, it was a great effort, great to see. Won by 2 but the same old faces ended up at the business end of the season.
It's still far to early to write a team like Tipp off and far too early to pin Cork as real challengers. They do it again against Waterford and I'll look at them as more genuine contenders.
Tipp have to start to peak now. They won it the difficult way last year, from Munster qf straight line to AI and had to beat ourselves, Cork, Waterford, Galway and Kilkenny. That's a tough run and looking at it now, something that would probably have been impossible to repeat two years in a row.
A shock in Leinster is what nearly everyone wants now. Really get things going.
    Well done Cork

Donal og would just be another Cunningham, madness putting a cork man in charge. Wouldn't let fitz near any Dublin team, McGrath would be an interesting proposal. Want a manager who's actually based in Dublin at this stage to try stop the rot

Should be internal. Kenny is not native Dub but he knows the scene well. As does Shay Boland. Need to get away from notion that Dublin hurling is some big franchise with all that goes with that, which of course we cannot mention!

Nothing against Cunningham or outside managers in general but surely it makes sense to have someone living in the place? Daly and Cunningham had good selectors who were at all the games but that's hardly a substitute for being there yourself. I can't imagine that Cody just takes someone else's assessment of a club player without seeing him himself.

the problem in Dublin used to be that club rivalries were so intense and indeed sometimes nasty that it was hard to get a management team that would have full co-operation. An uncle of mine was a selector at time when Vinnies more or less ignored the county team, both for club reasons and because Heffo was over the footballers at the time.

Wexford sounding pretty impressive in the QF and i think will they will have Kilkennys number in the semi final esp with it being in Wexford Park

Dont think Offaly will have enough to beat the winners of Galway/Dublin in the other semi final

so will Laois or Westmeath play the christy ring champions in the prem round game ???

Ffs that half should have been over. Three minutes were up when Rushe got the ball in their half.

Awful miss from Flynn too which looks crucial now.
