Maybe Brady said he had a concussion to get out of visiting the in-laws?

In the 112 games that Stafford has played for the Lions, they've had a 100 yard rusher just 7 times. That is outrageous.

Similarly, Andrew Luck has only had 3 100 yard rushers in his time with the Colts. Not sure what the exact game count is though.

But Jesus, that's a lot of extra pressure and difficulty placed on those two QBs.

Ladarius Green Released by Steelers After 1 Season Due to Failed Physical:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2710458-ladarius-green-released-by-steelers-after-1-season-due-to-failed-physical

Talented player, its seems his concussion problems are too serious. Only 26, but he has a decision now to make on his health/life, that is if a team would be willing to take him.

Steelers have a bit of a problem now at the tight end position. Seems strange that they wouldn't draft a tight end, with Green being an obvious red flag.

    Gary Barnidge anyone??

I feel bad for (peewee) LG, I really had high hopes when we drafted him to learn from Antonio Gates, but injuries really hampered him, mainly concussions, even tho we wouldn't have got to see him at his best in the NFL, I think he should retire for his own sake and his own health

Belichick did a podcast with Paul Rabil, released last week

    http://suitinguppodcast.com/episodes/01-bill-belichick.php

His bit around the 21 min mark on LT is great. Talks about how he knew pre snap exactly what play was happening, and who was doing what etc.

Rabil did a good job very interesting interview.

Just to add on LT if you read his book my Giant Life he gives the story of players and coaches he teamed with and what he said about BB was fascinating. Bill coaching his defense back then the way he does now. Even going into why Bill allows top RB to have 100+ plus games.

Dont think steelers have that much of a need a TE - James seemed to step up last year and with that experience i fully expect him to have a solid year for them

Today, we're exactly half way through the offseason.

    Half.

    Just half.

All that time that passed, must pass again.

And there is nothing between now and the season - at least we had the draft, combine and free agency to keep us entertained....
Suffer so much withdrawal we will be excited for pre season....

I know its completely a non-starter for player welfare. And commercially wouldn't work with overlapping seasons with other major American sports.

But a large part of me still always wishes the NFL had a 3 month longer season, more similar to rugby/football on this side of the pond. Every year it just always seems so short.

Preseason and pro-bowl games leave me cold. Nothing compares to full on regular season

Ya its a long off season. I really think there is an argument for only having 3 preseason games and then giving teams some extra bye weeks during the season. That way teams actually play one less game but stretch the season by having less games each week during the middle of the season

This is actually a great idea - im sure its been said before - but putting in an extra bye week or 2 and even start regular season in august to finish in feb as normal - even that would give you an extra 2 weeks of football - which would be appreciated haha

I think it makes sense but I'm sure there are a lot of reasons why it can't happen otherwise the NFL would have done it by now
Would the players object to a longer season even if it was actually a game shorter with more bye weeks? Do coaches really value that 4th preseason game?

Why get rid of a preseason game. Just give everyone an extra bye week and have pre season start a week earlier.

It would help player welfare by allowing them more time to recover between games and it would mean there was more weekends with football on (but less teams playing each week).

Is there a reason they can't change the preseason calender? I am sure something could be worked out with players if that is the issue as it would help them.

I like the idea of the extra bye week a lot. Even two extra bye weeks would also be great. Either get rid of a pre-season game and/or push the season a little deeper into February.

Extra bye weeks would result in a thinner pool of games each week. When you take out the prime time games you could be left with a handful of uninspiring games with which to fill Red Zone each week.

Reducing pre season games impacts owners revenue. Every other year there would be 1 home pre season game so money concessions etc would be down. Can't seen it happenin

Yep this would be class....the withdrawals are terrible. Spent the last few months watching nfl a football life episodes and some classic games. Really itching for the regular season now.

They did the extra bye week before and it was a complete failure, if I remember correctly. There's a detailed post about it floating around reddit or somewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 950 ✭✭✭nasty_crash

To be honest teams are getting better and the increase in the cap is helping towards that end - i dont think there will be as many dud games next season as there was last year - and last year was better than the year before - its not like your gonna bring it down to 5 games a weekend - should be 16 games a weekend - even with 6 teams on bye you would have 13 games left minus Thursday, Sunday and Monday night - that would be 10 games over the course of sunday afternoon/evening! Plenty of room for at least 1 decent game

As nasty_crash outlines theres no shortage of decent games in a given week. I'd be shocked if all 10 games a weekend left after a second bye-week was added ended up as 'duds'.

With less games competing against each other each weekend viewership figures for the remaining games would likely go up too, increasing revenue for the owners/teams.

    So:
    - Better for the players (more injury recovery time)
    - Better for the fans (a longer season)
    - Better for the owners (more revenue).

Someone forward the NFL on a copy of this thread so they can take note!

Not a fan of the extra bye week as you are still going to have 16 games and now spread it across 18 weeks rather than 17. The season maybe be longer but we still have the same amount of games and to be honest bye weeks suck as they are. I care more about my own team than the rest of the NFL and not having them play on a weekend sucks as is.

Knex is right they did it in 1993 and the teams hated it.

Here is said link nice breakdown of what the OP in that thread could find about the season and why teams hated it:
