    Agree....

They're playing Sheryl Crow's latest single 'Halfway There' on heavy rotation lately. They seem to be moving ever so closer to the pop end of the rock spectrum every day. Some other cases in point, Elle King's 'Ex's & Oh's' got the same treatment last year when it was in the charts, as did Twenty One Pilots' 'Heathens'. I'm not here to criticise said tracks, but do they really belong on a 'classic rock' station? I suppose if they want to grasp that lucrative national licence we had better get used to more deviation from the original subject matter.

Think most on here agree that the "classic" is long gone by now and the "rock" is hanging on by its fingernails.....as you say there's a lot more pop/indie stuff creeping in...they cant seem to be able to decide what they are, daytime anyhow..heard Massive Attack the other day..

I put nova on at 7.30am the other day and they were playing Voodoo Chile.
In fairness to them you wouldn't get that anywhere else.
The music does seem to deteriorate and get blander as the day goes on though.
By the time Pat Courtenay is on, you're hearing a lot of the middle of the road heavy repeat stuff they seem intent on playing.
As a station it's sometimes good, but it could be sooo much better if they would only stick to a classic rock format.
.......and got rid of whiny nasal Aussie girl.

What really annoys me is those self promoting jingles they play with snippets of loads of songs you'd expect to hear on Nova.

How about just play the songs instead of 5 seconds of each!

This is a bugbear of mine too. Music positioner promos are too common in Irish radio.

Firstly, if you describe them as "great songs" and I don't agree, my faith in your music policy is damaged.

Secondly... Just play a great song, instead of talking about it.

Peter Devlin playing 'Allright' by Supergrass for the 3rd or 4th time this week. What is Novas obsession with that song?

Sounds better than nine out of ten people don't listen to nova. ;)

Supergrass have a load more songs infinitely better than Alright, in my opinion: Moving, Mary, Richard the Third, Pumping Up The Stereo... Come on Peter -you don't have to follow the crowd! You do play quite a bit of Irish bands. We know you can be different.

I dont think nova play that much irish music during the 7am to 7pm mon to fri slot barring the obligatory on the hour every hour U2 track of their choosing. I can't ever remember hearing young irish talent. I think a few tracks a week by the strypes would go down a treat. Back in the old days when I had the dial a few notches up on today fm dermot and dave used to do a segment where they would play a track from a relatively new or unknown irish band. Some songs were obviously better then others but good to here something different.

but what harm would it be to throw a few of these songs on during the prime time shows. I dont normally listen of a sunday evening but one sunday night I was driving and had the pleasure to listen to a dj, who's voice some might say had no place on radio but his passion and knowledge of the music he was playing was infections. I had no idea who he was playing but after he would introduce a band or a song by sharing something interesting about it it was hard not to also share his enthusiasm for the craft. I like listening to the classics but would also like to be introduced to something new on occasion and all the better if its local.

If it was from 9pm, that would be Pat James with "Off the Record". He has complete free rein and tends to play a lot more obscure or lesser played stuff. He knows his stuff and his been doing those kind of shows for years - mainly pirates between 1978 and 1988.

People don't want to hear them. Prime time = mass market = stuff everyone knows. This isn't confined to Nova, of course.

They do as far as I listen, but being Nova they only play a handful of artists..U2 being the most overplayed, and Parachute,.god help us....I commented before that i've NEVER heard In tua nua's version of Somebody to love preferring to play the original version which isn't as good imo....think I heard The Strypes twice maybe....and of course that rock legend Hosier....:(

    Got that...;)

Courtenay had a "listener" ring in today who wanted Metallica's Whiskey in the jar played after he seen them play in the RDS years ago.....they never played it at that gig....and probably lost some respect with their loyal irish fans...well I never forgave them.;)

they didn't play the first time but played it twice since and in marley. They played it 2nd song in the last time just to shut the f**ers up in the crowd.

Guns n Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
Fangclub - Bad Words (solid new Dublin band)

Best 8 minutes of daytime music radio I have heard in Ireland in a long long time.

    Thanks Nova!

Metallica went down hill after the tragic passing of Cliff Burton, remembering them saying 03 they would play WITJ next time and in all fairness they did the following year and also in marley !
