It also says the colour is Metallic Green, but images are obviously a blue car.... a bit sloppy IMHO

It's an Irish car. 19" Cadiz have never been available in the UK. And I think I can make out enough of the speedo to see it doesn't have the cluttered mph + kph combo.

Thanks. I might go check it out anyway, but would really prefer the 5 door. Also not sure the extra money for an R is worth it for me, as I'm coming from a fairly slow car as it is. The power from the GTI would be plenty. There are very few 2013-2015 GTIs for sale at the moment though, far more R's coming onto the market.

I have a Lapiz blue and the VLC says it's green. I rang the garage when I bought it and they said that is correct.

Maybe not the thread or the place but I had a spin in a Mk7.5 1.0 turbo today. Probably down to the way it's geared but it felt a lot nicer to drive than the old 1.2 TSI.

If it's saying "Fault" then there's something wrong. The car will need a vcds scan first to get the fault code(s). If it's under warranty, take it back to the dealers.

Thats the problem. Just out of warranty. Is there anywhere around Dublin that can take a look at this? I have a feeling a main dealer will charge me an arm and leg before even fixing it.

UK VWs came with a mph only analog speedo since about 2010 similar to the way Irish VWs come with kph only here.

It's usually the sensor in the rear view mirror that causes that in the Mk7. The sensor comes as one unit with the mirror and iirc it's around €280+ VAT for the part.

Not in the MK7 Golf. It's a messy looking mph/kph clock in UK MK7's.

What part of Dublin are you in, I could scan it for you.

That's expensive, you should get the job done at an independent garage for around €200.

Can't wait to pick up one of these second hand and fully serviced

Make sure it is done right, lad at work had a bill for 1,100 due to a broken circlip traced back to an oil service using incorrect oil and overfilling the DSG.

I thought they were too bland, VW didn't make decent performance hatchbacks and you were going to buy a 1 series instead? :D

I booked mine in for a couple of weeks time and it's close to 60k. Didn't mention anything about a DSG service.

Bland might be a bargain, versus paying Endas boys 5,500 in VRT. May go UK but not sure of spec yet :D

The DSG geaebox oil alone is around €200 for those, price sounds about right for a dealer.

It's not that expensive, probably €100 or so for the 6 litres needed.

I was sure the last one I seen was 180+ VAT for parts. Maybe that included a filter too, could be wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,833 ✭✭✭Neilw

Nowhere near that, filter is about €20 and opie oils have 6 litres of millers DSG oil for £70, so just over €100 in parts.
An hour labour should cover the work too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Main dealers probably aren't getting their oils from Opie?

No, they are probably paying less.

I'm just saying the parts to do the job aren't that expensive and there's no reason to pay €320 for the oil change.

I know George Dalton used to charge around €200 for the work, probably more now as that was a while ago.

Looking back there were vw dealers doing the oil change for €250.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,554 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Jeez... I'd buy enough oil to heat the house for the winter for €320.
Seems expensive. But main dealers are. You're looking at €90-€100 per hour labour. So I'd say they're quoting at least 1.5 hours labour plus the parts.
Thing is, if the car is still < 3 years old I'd be inclined to bend over and bring it to the main dealer, keep warranty and resale value relatively intact. After 3 years, do what you like...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,148 ✭✭✭blingrhino

So lads i rand another dealer and asked how much for the DSG box oil change
and he said ?270 ! - its getting better i thought

While on the phone he said that it would also require an oil change for the 4wd
Haldex system which i presume is not cheap- he had no price for this at the time.

The car is booked in with the first dealer for engine oil change next week so i will make a few further enquiries while im there .

How's the car going blingrhino? Think you were one of the first to get one? Are you planning to get another year or two out of it?

i still love it vintage !

No trouble with it whatsoever, about 29mpg avg as the mileage has racked up and the sound of it has also improved with time.

Finding it hard to come up with a replacement for next year !

i never buy the same car twice but maybe....
