Is there a worse sports presenter than Johnny Bowe anywhere?

Twice yesterday he called out Patrick Thistle's results. A newsreader shouldn't make a reading mistake like that, but a sports presenter should have some modicum of what he's talking about. Especially when it's printed in front of them.

Then we get the insightful analysis that Southampton struggle against the teams above them, but do well against the teams below them. Well no **** Sherlock.

The worst kind of ignorant barstooler without a breeze of anything outside the top few in the Premiership. Presenting a sports programme.

    Yeah, I know. :)

In my defence, I'm usually positive about the station. (Alice Cooper playing Crazy Train, Poison, and Paradise by the Dashboard Light in one hour on Saturday was super stuff, for example)

But a sports presenter who thinks it's Ho-zay Mourinho? Who calls out the "latest scores" in the Formula 1? Drives me mad...

The whole Riffs and Refs show seems quite second rate. They're trying to mix the Radio 1 sunday sports show with their music brand and it doesn't really work. You need a proper sports person there to do it properly.

    I like Riffs and Refs.

    Just saying.

4fm is a multi-city licence rather then a national licence.

A multi city licence that doesn't include Waterford or Kilkenny.

Why would you want Nova when ye have Zenith.....do ya not like proper rock.....☺

sadly zenith isn't a permenant licence. they only do temporary broadcasts (actually when was their last one)

Nova fans should note that if they do try to go for the 4fm licence it's likely that a couple of hours a day of talk will have to be added.

Your right there is a special quota for radio stations to dedicate a certain amount of it's schedule to talk. I remember when 4fm launched I think they had a weekend chat show with the late Derek Davis and when that finished they brought in Niall Boylan for four nights a week and of course he's currently on in the afternoons aswell. I hope Nova don't go down the same route if they do get a national licence. I wonder what the quota for talk is.

Station has been getting blander by the day. I can only see it getting moreso if it does go nationwide.

Anyone else uncomfortable with that (very sad) drink driving ad....it ends so suddenly, then you have "hi..Keith Duffy here...looking for tyres for your car...its just yuk....

When you're starved of choice for so many years like we are where I live you tend to settle for anything worth listening to. It would be great to have nova blasting out in the car.

Apologies, that was the jaundiced view of someone who's had access to it for the last 5 years.

Why should Nova be granted a national licence and not Sunshine? Or Spin? Or Red?

If a national licence is to come up, let anyone pitch for it and the best service win. No station has an automatic right to a national licence. The petition is pitiful, and most of the comments on the Facebook page are negative.

    True,

If anything I'd say Sunshine would better warrant a national licence, and would be a better fit for national radio.

    That's hardly Nova's fault though.

Hopefully they do get it though, as repetitive as can be at least they just play the music and get in with it unlike the other national stations.

They do in their hole. Were they to get the licence, maybe they would have to stop the interminible traffic updates.

.whoever is in charge of the adverts should make it the last ad played...it's bordering on insensitive imo...

They're playing Sheryl Crow's latest single 'Halfway There' on heavy rotation lately. They seem to be moving ever so closer to the pop end of the rock spectrum every day. Some other cases in point, Elle King's 'Ex's & Oh's' got the same treatment last year when it was in the charts, as did Twenty One Pilots' 'Heathens'. I'm not here to criticise said tracks, but do they really belong on a 'classic rock' station? I suppose if they want to grasp that lucrative national licence we had better get used to more deviation from the original subject matter.
