Not a fan of that pod today. Anything Murph central is disappointing to me.

One bit of musical filler I do love is the funk version of "Coach", featuring "He's a crying big-baby".

A sharp drop in numbers again before the payment. Think they lost around 250-300.

One of those was me, card expired. I've re-upped now. Just thinking about it, if debit/credit cards last about 3 years each, that means 1 in 36 will go each month. Assuming everyone is as poorly prepared as me and let's it expire, based on a user base of 6500 you'd lose about 180 each month. Purely speculative of course, and not everyone would sign back up, but it happened to me so it's probably the same for others.

There is something very Ken Early about this point.

He should have finished it with a "Do you know what I mean?"

You know it's not Ken because he doesn't mention Mourinho.

Work With The Second Captains Production Team
    Wed 3rd May 2017
Do you want to work for our independent media company?

We want ambitious, hard-working broadcast journalists who are familiar with the editorial tone of Second Captains and who are interested in joining our production team (in all roles) for our World Service broadcasts, our live events and also our RTÉ Radio 1 show (which airs in July and August).

Basic responsibilities will include generating stories, pitching ideas and writing briefs. An in-depth knowledge of sport is a benefit but not a necessity. We’re looking for smart minds to help us across all our programming, not just in sport.

We’ll expect you to have an understanding of the media landscape (across all platforms) in Ireland and abroad, and to have some journalism or production experience.

Yesterday's piece on the first ever live radio broadcast of an All-Ireland Semi-Final was brilliant, I love that they're doing more historical pieces now.

7264 users signed up, that is phenomenonal, thought they would struggle to crack 5,000 but that is brilliant!

Are people unsubbing just before payday and resubbing afterwards? There is a 250 down and up swing around the payment date each month.

I read it and thought "I'm not interested" but when it came on in my playlist I listened anyway. Glad I did, another great podcast.

I thought the interview with Declan Murphy was pretty interesting. I noted a certain tone of scepticism from Ken, he pushed at a few points of contradiction, hinted at... something. I'm not sure what.

Here's an interview with Murphy on the BBC website from last month, a lot of which will be familiar, in a way that brings Ken's interjections to my mind - http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-39507939

Except for murphs really long winded questions - funny when the guy interviewed just said no to him a few times.

Interesting that Second Captains and Off the ball have had duplicate guests in recent weeks and SC having the advantage of getting their interviews out immediately...meaning I don't bother to listen to the Off the ball version.

Declan Murphy did Second Captains, Matt Cooper and Off the Ball all on the same day I think.

Jaysis, that Crotty lad is creepy.

Sounded like they were interviewing a scientology member or something. The nervous laughing was odd and making excuses for things. Funny that twice he was supposed to say RT and he said Kremlin/government.
Was an interesting interview, obviously he didn't agree to talk about certain things, but ken did a decent job and the caveat at the start from ken sums it up.

Oh yeah, if you believe his "good journalism" scooped wikileaks, you'll believe anything.

it was interesting interview, I found Ken was interrupting a little too often and it was turning into a bit of intellectual d*ck swinging contest, until Ken kinda sucker punched him in the end about the ethics of working for RT and your man lost his composure.

Ken reeled him in nicely. Crotty's mask was pretty threadbare to begin with, but it slipped thoroughly in the final quarter of the interview.

I think it was probably the best of the "political" podcasts so far. I think a more accurate title would be Ken talks about anything that isn't football.

I was a bit skeptical at first, considering they basically had the hype man for Russia Today on, but Ken's disclaimer at the outset put me a bit more at ease. I was initially surprised about how reasonable Crotty sounded - acknowledging that The Kremlin makes bad decisions and not always agreeing with everything that comes out of Moscow. Bejayus, I thought, he's speaking relatively freely here. But then after a while it became clear that Crotty's main manner of deflection was oily smarmy bullshit. I was hilarious how Ken kept prodding him gently with references to the work of other journalists and Crotty was forever talking up how EXCELLENT other journalists were, how PROUD he was at the FINE work he and his team were doing and name dropping here and there and probably feeling like he was breezing through it.

But of course Ken's game was to draw him into a chummy discussion about moral relativism and then to start hitting him with the tough questions quick and fast and Crotty really didn't like it! That was as close as you'll get to hear a guy like him completely lose his cool in an interview - "You said it wouldn't be like this!" What a snake-oil merchant! Yeah, he has misgivings - fair play to him - about working for an organisation that condones the view that not all domestic abuse is worth getting worked up about ("you get one free go"-Ken), but doesn't Ken - football journalist, Ken - also have misgivings about what he does, doesn't that mean the same thing right? Well, no, not really! Crotty's excuses, deflections and justifications sounded pretty pathetic by the end and his attempts to bring the interview back into dinner party mode by the end, talking about an upcoming great night out with the totally cool guys from Facebook, were nauseating.

    Well done Ken. Good job.

The sooner the better the Premier League season ends, Kens anti Mourinho crap is getting seriously tedious. He was saying who's decline is worse Wengers or Mourinhos ? Mourinho has had two bad seasons, Wenger has been in a continuous loop for over 10 years.

And does anyone know United have have the most expensively assembled squad in the world ?

Can't say it bothers me, it's good that someone isn't giving Jose the free ride he gets pretty much everywhere else.
