I'm sorry but I don't provide career advice to anonymous strangers.

It is up to you to forge your own path, but Business with German from TCD is an excellent starting point.

    Viel Gluck!

What about for the course itself? Surely someone as academically competent as yourself would be delighted to pass on your helpful tips to help the current generation of the course..

    Danke schön!

No where near to the extent you ve been going by on this thread anyway, most people do not go around comparing success or saying people are unsuccessful by the same criteria you use. (which is ridiculous) imo

There are plenty of people who want to dress begrudgery up as legitimate criticism, and also plenty of people who want to dismiss legitimate criticism as begrudgery.

    Pbear earlier in the thread:
There's an absolute bias against people who are or want to be
    successful.

Pbear after I mention not being attacked for being successful or having the desire to be successful from an early age:
Wait until you actually are successful, maybe. I was back home in
Ireland recently with my partner and children, and encountered quite a number of
    begrudging comments.

So what do you say about someone who is undeniably bragging that he has a PhD
in science and is going to start a biotech company?

Pbear it's time to take a good long look in the mirror. You're the only one here judging success. As you put it yourself some people are biased against those who then want to be successful or are successful. They might even accuse those of wanting success as bragging. That's you dude and only you.

Great. That is what the thread is about but don't criticise people for judging a quality and then judge other people for that same quality.

Great well don't comment on what you don't know so. Nor do you have an idea of what a PhD is contributing to the field.

You are not your job, you're not how much money you have in the bank. You are not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You are not your fcuking khakis.

It's all getting a bit personal, chaps :(

I saw a pink car with those stupid eyelash things over the headlights yesterday. I have no problem judging that sixteen ways to Sunday. :)

I'm going to play devils advocate a bit here Eddy, but by striving to "rise above" your working class origins, does it not imply that you consider it more desirable to be middle-class rather than working class and therefore that in some sense you judge working class people negatively? As if you're saying, "I don't judge them, I just don't want to *be* one of them myself"?

Why are you asking advice from someone who completed their degree 15 years ago?

My advice to you is to stop sending me unsolicited private messages and stop following me around from thread to thread like a beggar. You come across like an obsessive oddball.

You judge the car and you're judging it's owner. Is that not getting personal?

Did she stop the car, speak to the owner and explain why the car looks ridiculous? I'm guessing no, so that's not getting personal.

Ireland doesn't have working class middle class etc
We have people who don't work . People who work to provide for their family unit . People who work in professional and/or rewarding jobs to provide for their family and people that either don't need to work or run the country instead of working

We are not born into a class here like in the U.K.
