if you were to hit the max speed of 945 / 95 it would probably use very close to 2gb of data per test.

If you were to do nothing else for an entire month other than speedtests your 1tb data cap would be used up in 500 speedtests! with no room left for browsing, gaming, video, streaming or downloading!.

For people on Siro it would be even more as their max speeds is about 940 / 260.

I am kinda lucky in that it's mainly me who uses the connection. I have been connected since the 7th of April and so far this is a rough estimate of what Ive used:

    Downloads Steam:
    The Witcher 3
    Portal 2
    Starcraft 2
    Hard Reset
    Bayonetta

    Downloads PS4:
    Final Fantasy 15
    Yakuza 0
    lots of game updates

    Many hours of online gaming

    Sky ON Demand Downloads:

Silicon Valley Season 1 in 1080p
    3 movies in 1080p

    Netflix:
about 30 hours worth in 1080p

several hours of Youtube in 1080p and some in 1440p

    Speedtest.net
at least 50 speedtests across desktop wired and mobile.

and right now myeir indicates roughly 360 gigs used so far since I started 19 days ago.

If I lived in a home with 3 other people like myself, the monthly cap would be well and truly broken by now. Thankfully I don't have any 4k streaming services.

Wifi still acting up on smartphones and tablets.
    Grand for everything else.

    Bayonetta is very, very good.

Had it on xbox 360 nearly 10 years ago and great to finally play it @ 1440p60fps on Steam.

If every speed test involved downloading a 2gb file it would take me about 9 hours to do a test :(

    Roll on FTTH

Did you check out this forum? Seems others are having similar issues - https://community.eir.ie/broadband-25/serious-issues-with-f2000-modem-266818

Also, did you check if there's a firmware update?

I've read all those and the posts here on boards. beginning to think their is no way around it other than buying another router.

It's not a priority for me yet tho as I am very happy with the router on most other devices. Friends of mine are thinking of buying new routers as well. It's more of an inconvenience when friends call over and they have to use their wireless provider. I don't use the phones much for browsing/videos.

I can't remember if you said you were with eir or not before but if you had no issues with the old router, and do with the F2000, could you not go back to your old router and instead of using the DSL port I think there is a function to use the first ethernet port as a WAN port?

yeah, the old Eir ADSL router worked perfectly with all devices. Even tho I only had 8megs, it was a better experience on smartphones and tablets.

Yeah, if you go into the configuration page of your old one I don't think there's much work in using ETH1 as a WAN port. I presume this would work with an ethernet cable between the ONT and old router

OK. I hope to go live in the next few weeks so I'll keep an eye out for these issues. If you do get a new modem, let us know if it fixes the issues.

Going a slightly off topic here but I saw this in Newbridge town.
    Is this SIRO fibre?
    Fairly beefy looking cable

Yup, I'd say that's SIRO fibre alright.

You need a Sky STB to receive the eir sports channels from Satellite.

You need a Sky +HD box if you want to get the HD channels.

The card you use does not need a Sky subscription ...... an old, out of sub, card will suffice.

everything you do online counts towards the data and the fup including accessing Eir Sports online and Eir's website.

Would card need to be in my name,

And how much bandwidth would the iptv stb box use up

I thought I read watching eir sport through the apps was for free of data usage even on a meteor phone one other reason I was thinking of getting Ftth with eir over digiweb

digiweb is not eir ..... you would not be an eir customer if you contract with digiweb

More like 2 days!!! I sent this reply with the aid of a small fire outside and proceeded to make smoke signals to the nearest tower!!!! Was still faster than any telecom connection available to me!!! I was nearly expecting to have to spear a few dinosaurs while attending the fire since I am stuck in some prehistoric age....FFTH can't come soon enough..... Just hope it doesn't get pushed back..BTW donadea exchange is set for may 3rd,a lot of properties have fibre sticking out of poles but none are connected as of yet, unfortunately its not on my line!

Meteor has all you can eat data for certain apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. Eir broadband there is no website, application, game or service that is exempt from the data allowance/FUP. Only Eir's evision TV service is seperate and does not count towards a data allowance.

    ...why?

I don't get speedtest addiction. I can understand running a couple when you first get a fast connection until the novelty wears off; I can understand running one when you think there might be a problem with the connection.

But a lot of people seem to run them recreationally. It's a bit like running your kitchen tap for ten minutes several times a day to see what the pressure is like: you're using a substantial amount of a shared resource for essentially no useful purpose.

Its a useful purpose to keep a check on what the ISP is providing and if someone wants to use their 1Tb FUP allowance on speed tests that's up to them, if they used it in a say fit for purpose reason in your opinion with 4k you wouldn't complain!!!
