Is that not up €100 per month?
    FTTC is up to €100

    FTTH is up to €50
    maybe I'm wrong

Received a letter to the household today from eir regarding the new broadband. Unlimited is plastered all over it.

Miniscule print where a flea would need a magnifying glass to read states "fair usage policy applies. Visit eir.ie for more info".

No direct link, tiny wording on a black background. No asterisk sign next to unlimited wording and no direct link to policy.

To me that's false advertising that should be brought to the attention of the regulator.

it really doesn't make sense that someone on 1meg ADSL has the same download allowance as someone on 100 FTTC and 1000 on FTTH.

The 'unlimited' plans we all knew about the FUP, but the website update over the weekend really gave hope, almost proof that there is no more fair usage policy. Even if they just allow the 1000 to be fully unlimited, that would be good enough for me. I would hate to pay a cent more for going over the limit, but would be perfectly happy going with the top tier 1000 package in order to gain true unlimited.

Having said that, it's actually hard enough to go past 1tb per month but the point is the freedom that no usage policy gives. I log in several times a day just to check my usage and it's 24 hours behind and I've no idea if my monthly usage is counted from the last day of the month or is it from the middle of each month when the account was setup.

Any of the unlimited download packages (FTTC/FTTH) €100 max per month
Limited download options e.g. 10GB, 30GB packages €24.40 max per month
The additional charge for excess usage is €2.03 per GB (€1.65 ex. VAT) up to a maximum of €24.40 (inc. VAT) per month. eFibre packages with unlimited usage are subject to a Fair Usage policy of 1TB per month. Usage is excess of 1TB will be charged at €2.50 (inc. VAT) for every 10 GB up
to maximum of €100 (inc. VAT) per month.

    This from eir's pricing document
Still doesn't mention fibre extreme FTTH or whatever they're calling it now. Just efibre which is their branding for FTTC? Given the amount of places that it says unlimited on the website for FTTH, surely if someone was billed for going over the 1 TB FUP they could dispute it citing all the false (true?) info on the website about it being unlimited.

Their fibre extreme is* branded as "eir Fibre Extreme", eir Fibre was a rebranding of eFibre (FTTC/FTTH) when they rebranded eircom to eir.

Edit: * I should have said was, as it appears they have rebranded it again to "1000MB Fibre to the Home" but the documentation hasn't caught up yet.

This weekends update is certainly causing even more confusion than before with regards to the FUP. The Eir Fibre Extreme page no longer exists and is now called 1000mb Fibre To The Home.

However on https://www.eir.ie/broadband/ it's still referred to as Eir Fibre Extreme.

All references of the 1000mb package now clearly states that is absolutely no usage limits. It's like as if there is a half finished website update.

Was reading some of the comments about 1tb per month thinking what the hell do ye be at to hit that. We currently have a 1mb/128k connection that is on the list for FTTH.

Quick google though says that 4k Netflix will eat 30Gb per hour so an hour of Netflix per evening will soon be up on 900Gb. Crazy numbers compared with what we have at the minute.

That FUP too doesn't sound anything like the FUP of old though where you were still technically unlimited but they would throttle your connection if you were abusing, which made sense for other users. As in, an actual policy that keeps the usage on the network somewhat "fair".

That 1Tb is simply a usage allowance, so it's not unlimited at all. Not sure how they can say 1Tb is unlimited.

It's certainly confusing but they are selling it as an unlimited package, as against other packages with monthly download/upload limits of 10, 30 GBs etc. per month for example, but with a fair usage policy of 1TB per month.

Their FUP is 1 TB. I emailed them about it. It was only brought up from 500 GB to 1 TB in the last few weeks.

Seeing as we've established that the Fair Usage Policy is probably the same for fiber as it is for ADSL and FTTC,
can we get the FUPping discussion out of here and into its own thread as it's not FTTH specific?

Hi, I am on eir's ftth rollout but when I check the date on open air with eircode it says fiber available first half of 2017 but I have checked a few neighbours with their eircode and it says available summer 2018???? I live in a rural location outside maynooth and the fiber line would pass my neighbours before me,I have tried contacting eir to no avail. The poles have been changed but I haven't noticed any splitters or van crews. I am been upgraded to imagines LTE but its an 18 month contract which I don't want to get stuck in if ftth becomes available in the near future. Is there anyway of valaditing these available dates?

There's no way of validating the dates. Sometimes Eir are ahead of schedule and other times they're behind, meaning dates get pushed back.

It can't come soon enough!! Living in the dark ages here. Could they possibly install a cabinet rurally & then be able to serve 4km radius?

That could happen, see point 4 in the quoted text - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=103136977&postcount=4517

We havent seen them do it yet but its the big upside to their single vendor setup, its rather trivial to mix and match LTs to match demand/dwelling patterns in each area.

I have a feeling they are going to do something like that as I live at a T junction and am lucky enough to have the hallowed blue circle around my property but the rollout stops in two directions after me, 1 within 50mtrs & the other within 600mtrs so it is coming out being fed from direction 3 but there is 5 properties around 1 km in that direction heading back into the town which aren't light blue & they are roadside dwellings not up long lanes or anything.there rollout map doesn't make sense to unless they are deploying a cabinet in the area which would mean FTTC

Thanks for the link..I did go through this thread about 20 pages previous but my phone was overheating!!! I will melt it if I ever get FTTH!

There was a lot of discussion on fair usage policies and the possible 1 TB per month usage limit. Does this apply to TV streaming services such as EirTV or Vodafone TV?

Data used by EirTV does not get included in your usage.
I'd imagine any other TV streaming would come under your normal usage.

Does anyone know the carrying capacity of trunk fibre cables? I am seeing a slim fibre cable on poles not too far away from an exchange with 3 multicore copper cables underneath. Could the cable be carrying data to up to about 200 premises? Will contention be an issue in places in the future?

yep, Eir Tv is completely seperate from the actual internet service even tho it is powered by Eir broadband.

All other streaming services such as Netflix, Sky, WWE, Youtube, Twitch and Hulu would be part of normal usage.

Sorry for my irrelevant updates, but I FINALLY have my broadband. Kn came out this morning, so thanks to the tech support who actually got things moving after hours of calls. Fault was from something that had been done whilst installing elsewhere (they said any way). They didn't do anything inside my house.

It's fantastic. Good luck to everyone who gets theirs, it really is unbelievable we get these speeds out here in the arse end of nowhere.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.
