great! perhaps some areas have been moved forward by up to a year, while other areas may be put back by a few months if there are not many people in a given area.

It's kinda the other way around lol. I'm in the surrounding area of a village with 85 houses planned to be done by Eirs FTTH. The area that's live only has 15 houses.

I'm not complaining. Just happy to see progress regardless of where it is.

The last 1 to 3 weeks before you get fibre is the worst, the wait is almost unbearable! The biggest dissapointment is not being part of the 'first live' premises in your exchange, seeing the Open Eir and KN vans drive around connecting people on other roads and having to wait an extra month or 2 because of that.

The night before you get the install is like walking out of your final Leaving Cert exam into blue skies and 26C or back when you were 10 years old sitting infront of the Christmas Tree on Christmas eve wishing for the biggest box of Leggo that you will ever see in your life!

So true and great description. Waiting here for May 15 which is our approx install date...have been doing everything in prep...even bought a patch panel as when I build the house I put CAT5e cable throughout which I recently connected...

I've been told a few days after May 3rd I'll get told my install date. I'm hoping, like a good few on here, that a space will come up and I will get an "early install date" but I guess you have to get a "planned" install date first?
Do they do a site visit beforehand or just do it all on the day?

Don't think a site visit is done. Was chatting to a KN engineer and he was saying houses with splitting boxes closest will be done first - myself and my neighbour who are #1 & #2 (according to the sales rep) on the list, both have a splitter box outside.
Our area is due to go live in the first week in May and then they come and run the fibre from the splitter box to the house.
But interestingly he was telling me they can run cable for 1-2 km from a splitter box if needed. So if your house is not exactly on the map, there is a good chance you can be connected if your in the 'general' area. All our local fibre is not ran back to the nearest cabinet but to the local exchange which is almost 10km away...

Fingers crossed I get an early date too!

Fair play to ye lads that can get info ,I'm getting fobbed off repeatedly whenever I contact Eir.Apparently my exchange is live depending who I ask then another it's not or they can't tell me when/if I will get it.
80 houses on the exchange apparently can get 100Mbps but I doubt there is 50 between me and the exchange and know no one who has it.

That is great info and I hope it is true as I live just over 300m from where eir fiber junction splitter will be.

Based on the pic of the NBP map you posted last week showing your house outside the commercial rollout it's unlikely they'll run fibre until the NBP contract is awarded. They may be able to run fibre up to 2kms from the splitter but if your house isn't included in the commercial rollout plan it looks like you'll have to wait.

You need to see if there is a splitter box 'close' to you...see images of what to look for

My neighbours either side of me are passing for fiber using the eircode checker but my home is not, how the hell does that work?

Eir have been absolutely no help and their Indian staff on Chat.

    Enter your eircode here: http://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/communications/topics/Broadband/national-broadband-plan/high-speed-broadband-map/Pages/Interactive-Map.aspx
Light blue circle: FTTH -1000 Megabits
Dark blue area: FTTC -100 Megabits (if you're really close to the exchange. Email them if you have FTTC and can't get 30/6
If you're amber, then you're on the National Broadband Plan and won't be done until the end of next year at the absolute earliest. Could be a couple of years yet.
My neighbours pass but I do not as I live down a lane. Even though it's only about 70m long, that's just how it is. The people on chat are there for sales enquiries. You or I do not have the power to get ourselves added to eir's plans. That is up to them unfortunately. For some reason, they deem your house to be commercially unviable.

We're well aware what they look like, unfortunately for some houses along the yellow line routes and even close to the end of those lines haven't been included in the commercial rollout and must wait for the NBP.

In a similar position to Falconire, FTTH is expected to go live in the Carrignavar are in Autumn 2017 but the routes it takes seem a bit odd.

I'm about 150m from the yellow line, in a cluster of about 11 houses, 9 of which have young families. What are the chances of eir delivering ftth to us when it launches?

    3Mq2IRQ.png

They extended the line about 100 metres from the crossroads to apparently serve a truck shed that's rarely used and the home of a woman in her seventies.

We are at the tail end of the ftth rollout from carrignavar.

If you don't have a blue dot on the DCCAE NBP map, and you are not on the yellow line your chances are slim I am afraid.

    What speeds do Hawaii offer.

With FTTH where does the modem go ? Can you leave moden in attic and just run a cable to PC/ ? It this best?
With FTTH is there line rental? Does the phone in home change? Will is work as usual.

All I can think of would be to get some signatures together and submit them in to OpenEir via email. Might not come to anything but at least you can be happy that you've tried.
And I do know that OpenEir don't deal with the public generally.

    Hi,

For the last few weeks KN have been laying what I hope is fibre cable around my village of Pallasgreen, Co Limerick. I'm very interested in getting this when it goes live on the 3rd of may, but I havn't had a active phone line in almost 10 years as the broadband was so bad I cancel my service with eircom. My question is can I order the FTTH broadband on eir.ie when the service goes live on the 3rd or do I have to reactivate my phone line and then order broadband through my old copper phone line and then try and order the FTTH and get the fibre intalled in the house,

    thanks in advance.

tommy im down the road from you and be getting fibre ftth from exchange in cloverfield the FTTH has nothing to do with copper phone line and eir site now has just a check using eircode it does not ask for phone number now so you can order it away but kn engineer said to me other day 3rd of may was pushing it a bit

there website was revamped last few day and with the words "Unlimited Usage" and "absolutely no usage limits" on the FTTH page , so i was wondering was there usage policy now changed as well.as wording "absolutely no usage limits" is very strong wording if there is still fair usage policy

Surely people could use that to their advantage if they're charged for going over could they? Seem fairly direct even if the 1 TB FUP is still there. Does anyone know have there been cases of people going over the FUP on FTTH and being charged? Is it possible that the FUP is there just for them to cover themselves? Has anyone heard of someone being charged for going over 1 TB on FTTH or is it just there? I remember when the FUP was 30GB and I went over a few times by a few gigs without any consequences. Could this be the same for the 1 TB on FTTH?

"Absolutely unlimited" could be taken as just "you can use it any time you like for as long as you like" (as opposed to, say, the days of dial up) without precluding a FUP

A good few instances in the talk to Eir forum on boards, not sure if they are FTTH or FTTC or normal broadband but one guy hit 1.8tb and was charged.

The FAQ still says "Excess usage is charged at €2.03 per GB up to a maximum of €24.40 inc VAT per month. eir Fibre packages with an unlimited usage allowance are subject to a fair usage policy of 1TB per month. Usage in excess of 1TB will be charged at €2.50 inc VAT for every 10GB up to a maximum of €100 inc VAT per month."

But maybe they forgot to update that bit.

it does NOT say "Absolutely unlimited" it says "absolutely no usage limits" and "Unlimited Usage" you have mashed up both statements of facts from there site that i quoted

as FTTH does not suffer from congestion as far as i know like copper does so neighbours others would not be effected is there any benefit of fup other then more revenue

Its contented up to about 13:1, its shared fibre not P2P.

And the FUP is there for traffic out of the network, not through it. Eir have to pay Cogent/L3/Telia for all they send/receive out to the rest of the world. If enough were using 5TB/month they'd have a very significant costs increase.

but its not the eir fibre package ie upto 100mb fttc
its the extreme package ie upto 1000mb ftth and i cant find a far usage policy for that package but i might just be missing it which wouldnt be the first time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭yammagamma

thanks ED E, just the wording was changed to "absolutely no usage limits" , strong statement then to have a fair usage policy but i suppose its whats in the contract that you sign and not whats on the website.

I went onto myeir page and it says unlimited ie. no 1TB as it had mentioned before and i'm adsl...
So it must be for all connections now..
